Just to clarify what has been posted above: I should do Nitnem after the samapti of Kirtan. Does this also mean that after Kirtan, one should first do Ishnaan and then do Nitnem? Or, is it ok to do Nitnem after a Ran Subayee without doing Ishnaan first? This is the case when the Ran Subayee Kirtan takes place at the Gurdwara. It is not possible to take an Ishnaan right then. So, can we stillby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
When part of a Ran Subayee Kirtan Smagam, when should one do their Nitnem? I've always gotten together with other bibian, some time after 12, and we do Nitnem together. I've also seen others, Bibian and Singhs, do this as well. Would this be considered not right, since one has not done ishnaan yet? I've always done this because I've been told to do Nitnem during Amritvela, and when Kirtan ends arby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I read the following article off another website. --------------------- Sat Sri Akaal everyone, I'm a young Punjabi-Sikh girl from Australia and I would like to ask your opinions on these topics raised. First of all, I hold my religion very close to my heart... however I am very critical of Punjabi culture, and I do notice the bad things like: 1. double-standard in men and women, heby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
What I don't understand is what's wrong with today's world. I mean, these people call themselves "Sikhs" and yet they're all set out to corrupt their own religion. That's ridiculous! People of other faiths do all they can to protect and keep their religion, and whatever their traditions may be. Whereas in Sikhi, everyone's going about on their own little path, building towers and calling them Gurby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Many people I know, when they sit down to listen to an Akand Paath, and they decide to listen to the entire Paath, they don't do there Nitnem. After the Bhogh, they do Nitnem twice; one for that morning, and one that they missed. I'm not sure whether this is according to Gurmat, and whether this should be done. This is just from people I know who've done this in the past.by kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
That's how I personally do it. I wake up in the morning around 3:30ish, and I go back to bed around 5am, after doing nitnem and abhiyaas. Since I go to school, I get up again at 7am to get ready. I sometimes think that when I work late into the night, it's really hard to get up so early in the morning. I get 3 hours of sleep, have to wake up, and then about 2 hours again. This isn't healthy, beby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Sikh means student or leaner. Gursikh means "student of the guru". When talking about the people that follow Sikhism, we refer to them all as Sikhs, or Gursikhs. In this context they mean the same thing.by kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I think that once you get home from work, whatever time that maybe, if it's after 12am, then just do ishnaan and do your Nitnem then. After that you can go to sleep. It's better than ruining your sleep by first sleeping for a few hours, then getting up to do ishnaan/Nitnem, and then going back to sleep.by kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum

I've never heard anything like that. In fact, I think it's a good idea for Gursikhs to help out by waking up others for Amritvela. They're helping out others with their Sikhi, and that has to be a good deed. How can it be wrong to help another fellow Gursikh?by kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum

We were having a similar discussion in Biology recently, whether such a thing could be considered ethical. Screening for diseases before pregnancy doesn't seem to be an ethical problem. The problem is when a disease is found, and the couple want a child, it won't be through conception, rather it will involve in-vitro fertilization. If a disease is found in the woman (or man), they would makeby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I didn't say that people don't talk like. From the lines Sukhdeep Singh veerji has posted, it's clear that Bhai Sahib sometimes used the word "Singh" to refer to both gender. What I've been saying is that this doesn't seem right, and most seem to agree. In general conversation it's not right. In Gurbani, however, such words can be used because it's written by Guru Sahib, and everything written isby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Yes, I'm a Feminist, if it means someone wanting to end discrimination against women. However, today, this does not happen to be the case. There are many Feminists out there that have taken advantage of this, and have been outrageously asking for ridiculous things. One instance that I can remember from the top of my head is from the past year. A group of Feminists "announced" in a Universityby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Like I've mentioned before, Gurbani uses many words interchangeably when discussing both genders. This however is not the general way we speak. We don't call a group of Sikhs "Singhs", if there are females present. We can call them a group of Gurmukhs/Gursikhs. Why even bother using a word, whether someone's offended or not? It's a masculine word when used in general conversation. Gurbani is diffby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Saying that different Sikhs, according to their spiritual state, are given titles doesn't seem right. Although, in general conversations, if we're talking about a Gursikh that does a lot of Naam Kamayee, then people may refer to them as a mahapurkh, or such. But the idea of giving people "titles" based on how much Paath they do, how much time they devote to Naam and Bani, that concept doesn't makby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I absolutely agree with Jaspreet Singh. SK Ji, Kaur means prince? I've always learned it meant Princess. Anyone clarify this?by kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
From what I've always learned, Guru Gobind Singh Ji gave the name "Kaur" to Singhnia, and "Singh" to Singhs. We cannot use Gurbani as a means to back this up, in my opinion. In Gurbani, many words are used interchangeably, where a male is called a female and vice versa. For example, Gursikhs are called the Brides, who await their Groom (Guru Sahib). This is obviously not meant literally, justby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I just want to start by mentioning that I am not a feminist, even though my thoughts on this topic may make it sound like as if I am. This, however, does not mean that certain things should be used using the masculine form, even when using the word as a generalization and including females. Some words are acceptable, whereas other's need more clarification. I don't agree to this post. My mainby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
As I mentioned in my post, I did not start this topic to debate on the issue. I've always believed that Bibian were allowed in Panj Pyaray. Are Bibian allowed as Panj Pyaray? I've always thought they were, as I've seen so a couple of times. Although it's not common, and in most Amrit Sanchaars you would only see Singhs. I haven't heard people use the word "Dasam Duaree Gurmukh", I've only heard Brahmgyani Gurmukhs. I think there is no difference between the two, since from the name (Dasam Duaree), one can assume it's a Gurmukh whose "dasam duar khul gahya". As for a Brahmgyani, they're also the same, as they too are those whose "dasam duar khul gahya". This is just my thinking, not 100% sure though. Although, frby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I've always believed and heard that there is life right conception. Also, I've seen a picture of a zygote at 9 weeks (2 months). At this point you can clearly see the eye socket, ears, nose, arms, legs. It's taken the form already, and continues to develop. So how can you say that the soul enters the womb at 3 months, when the form is created within 2 months? Either way, I believe that the soul iby kaurs4 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
