Vaheguru jee. There is a question. There is a person who is a mona. They are trying to find spirituality. They are making positive steps in giving up meat, eggs, and fish and waking up Amrit-vela (2am) everyday. And doing 2 hours Paath/Simran in the evening and 2-3 hours Paath Simran at Amrit-vela. Their question was, "Is it okay to do 1 hour of simran on the Mantar of "Waheguru" and then doby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Someone asked me the question whether one's spiritual efforts (e.g. Naam Kamaaee, Gurbani Paath, or Seva) can benefit one's dead family members or ancestors/lineage (past and or future), and an explanation of how it works out. Daas had the idea that pangtee'aa like the following are referring to redeeming the future "kul" (lineage). ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਸਗਲੇ ਤਾਰੇby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Khalsa Jee, one other idea is that whenever we do talks/presentations we should try (where possible) to talk a mix of Punjabi and English rather than just English (especially in Sangat of Punjabi origin people). When making presentations we should perhaps try to have the slide titles in Panjabi and English - even having a small amount of Panjabi within a slide brings out Panjabi maa boli prideby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I am further worried that children of Amritdhari parents, including from Jatha, are not speaking to their children in Panjabi and think that a child being able to recite some Gurbani Paath is enough. When Gursikhs speak to these children and ask them something simple in Panjabi, the children reply back, "Daddy, what is he saying?" Very sad. Will we have a generation of Bana-wearing and Kesby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Thank you for the all vichaar so far. Just to clarify the question that I was asked in the Sikhi class... 1. "Where had God gone in the holocaust/genocide? There were people crying out for God. Where was God?" 2. Why did God save some but not others in the holocaust/genocide? 3. What possible justification could there be for a Sikh woman to be gang-raped and a child mercilessly killeby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

I have been asked by someone about Gurmat's view on holocausts and genocides. I would appreciate if Gursikhs could share their thoughts and Gurbani reflections please. In particular the question posed was this: "During 1984 November anti-Sikh genocide, thousands of Sikh men, women and children were brutally killed. These people must have cried out to Vaheguru for help. They must have been sby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I have noticed that there is an increasing number of parents who are Amritdhari and where mother will be wearing a Keski but: 1) The young son wears a patka instead of keski/chhotee dastaar 2) The young daughter has her hair tied into pig tails (guthaa) and most often uncovered head or covered with a rumaal These children will grow up to accept the patka or uncovered head (with a pony tailby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Vaheguru Jee It is inappropriate to call Bani "corrupted". Is reading 5 Paurian of Japji Sahib "corrupted Bani"? Is reading 6 Paurian of Anand Sahib "corrupted Bani"? We should be watchful and extremely careful with language we use when referring to Gurbani. If someone wishes to read a longer version of Rehraas then that is a personal decision. However, to put down others or undermind oby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Vaheguroo. A lovely read. The parshaada part reminded me of when I visited some Chardikala Gursikhs and ate Parshaada. I usually eat TWO but I ate about 15 Parshaadey! Mata jee had to prepare more Aata. The Parshaade had so much Amrit-Rass filled in them. Vaheguroo.by Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
At work someone asked me to eat from the restaurant. I politely said "no thanks - I don't eat out." The person some very intrigued and we sat down and began talking. They asked "Please explain what you eat and your way of life... I am very interested". I explained, "Sikhs do not eat fish, eggs or meat." He asked, "Why is that?" Anyone who buys Degh of 500 rupees (or is it 100 rupees) or more they get given a Siropa with pataase inside it by the Degh sevadaars. Shame that a poor man can never dream of having a Siropa given to them at Sri Harimandir Sahib. Vahegurooby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I think it was mentioned in the Katha of Baba Jagjit Singh Harkhowale that "Charan" in "Charan Pahul" refers to the Gur-Shabad. i.e. The water was turned into Amrit through recited the Gur-Shabad and then was given to the Abhilaakhee to drink. Vaheguru Jee. Someone was having a discussion with me about Charan Pahul and what Charan Pahul actually meant. Gurbani says we should not break anyone's heart but at the same time a Gursikh who keeps a particular Rehat would not want to compromise it. Some possible ways to follow a middle way in where unnecessary negativity and a clash could be avoided are.. 1) Accept Degh and then discreetly give the Degh to the person next you (if you know them and they know and your Rehat) making sure its not mby Manvir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
