Vaheguru jee ka Khalsa Vaheguru jee kee fateh ! One day, Sodhi Harbhajan Singh jee (writer of famous book Bhajan Bandagi Da Pratap) was standing in a shop in Jabalpur that an English couple walked in and said fateh to him loudly. Harbhajan Singh was surprised to hear fateh from the English couple. Bhai MB Singh jeeo, All other things constant, what is wrong if an error is fixed? We clearly see that the Bikrami calendar is short few minutes every year. What is wrong if this is fixed? The months of Nanakshahi calendar are same as Desi months. Why do we need to stick to the Bikrami calendar? Kulbir Singhby Kulbir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

There was recently a video put on youtube that showed Tarmala sangat swinging heads right and left, with their dastaars falling to ground and their hair open. All this did not seem like Gurmat. Gurmat teaches sehaj and does not advocate open display of such actions. The private union of husband wife is not discussed outside. Once in the darbaar of Guru Gobind Singh jee, a Sikh called Laal Singh came with a shield. He had spent a lot of time constructing this shield which was almost impossible to penetrate. It was not only strong but was also very light. Everyone in the darbaar praised the dhaal (shield) and Guru Sahib too expressed his happiness at the dhaal. Bhai Laal Singh was a very good Sikh but when so many pby Kulbir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Veer Jasjit Singh jeeo, One of the things that is sought by many is to change the date of Siri Guru jee's Gurpurab to Vaisaakh. Many of our Gursikhs brothers and sisters also believe that the date falls on Vaisaakh and not in Kattak as it is celebrated today. I just wanted to clear this misunderstanding. I beg to differ from my fellow Gursikhs who have posted that we should think of spending the money spent on Rumaalay at other causes like education, feeding the poor etc. It is a tradition to do an offering of the rumaalay at the end of Gurmat Samagams like Siri Akhand Paath Sahib. It is not a mandatory practice but still done traditionally whenever the Gursikh feels the need for it. It is felt bby Kulbir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Thanks for the explanation MB Singh jeeo., I am not in favour of the Bikrami calendar just because it is a Hindu calendar but mainly because it is not fully accurate. Every year, it is written that, it loses 20 minutes and many years later, if we don't fix our calendar, the months of Poh and Maagh and Faggan etc. will occur during summer time and summer months will move to winter time. Sikhs have been poor as far as writing history is concerned and for this reason, very little has been written of Siri Guru Har Rai jee and Siri Guru Harkishan jee. In any case whatever little that there is written about Siri Guru jee, we should preserve and narrate to our children and the next generation. Kulbir Singhby Kulbir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Sukhdeep Singh jeeo, The Mool Mantra contains the qualities of Vaheguru and does not contain any Hukam for Updesh and for this reason does not have any visible verb. The word "Sat" according to translators means either an adjective or a noun. If it is an adjective, then it is the adjective of all nouns following it and not just of "ਨਾਮੁ". Why? Because if it was the adjective of "ਨਾby Kulbir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
About 100 years ago, Sardar Karam Singh Historian’s book “Kattak ke Vaisaakh” came out In market and this started the controversy of whether the Gurpurab of Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee is in the month of Kattak (on the Pooranmashi day) or in the month of Vaisaakh. I personally was affected after I read this book many years ago and on the day of Kattak Pooranmashi, when the whole Panth used to cby Kulbir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
The Nanakshahi calendar should stay intact and no changes should be allowed. This calendar represents independance of the Sikh faith. It seems according to Gurmat to have our own calendar and not use the Hindu Bikrami calendar. Kulbir Singhby Kulbir Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Human body is sacred and has even been called Harmandir i.e. house of Lord in Gurbani. This is the main reason why Saabat-Soorat is kept i.e. Sikhs don't cut hair and don't pierce ears or nose. Even after death, the body of a Gursikh is decorated with good Gurmukhi clothes and 5 Kakaars before cremation. I personally don't feel comfortable taking out organs from the body before cremation. Thanks for writing about Baba Nidhan Singh jee Chugga. I am sure, he must be fulfilling his obligation of doing ishnaan at Amritvela. Thanks for sharing great thoughts MB Singh jeeo. I too, early in my life as a Gursikh, did Siri Jap jee Sahib rauls. While doing Siri Jap jee Sahib paath, I really wanted to hear Siri Akhand Paath Sahib and could not wait to be released from the Siri Jap jee Sahib rauls but when I was released, then the same thirst for hearing paath was no longer there. Vista jee has rightfully written that Bhagat Kabir jee's baani is sometimes quite difficult to understand and is full of riddles and puzzles. I believe, many of Bhagat jee's shabads are still unsolved or understood only by accomplished Gursikhs. Thank you so much Vista jee, for posting the translation of Bhai Kaur Singh jee's work. I have read books of Bhai Sahib and have found them very inspiring. Actually, Bhai Kaur Singh je's book on Sarbloh was the final push that prompted me to keep Sarbloh Bibek (by the kirpa of Guru Sahib) many years ago. As for Bollywood movie showing only one Sikh at Kala Paani, all I can say that that these movies are catered towards the majority and the majority does not want to see majority Sikhs at Kala Paani. I personally don't understand the logic behind doing paath of Siri Jap jee Sahib along with Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee but we do see that in early days, the Jatha too used to do paath of Siri Jap jee Sahib as is clear from the story involving doing Siri Akhand Paath Sahib for the salvation of a ghost in the city of Jaipur. As far as rehit is concerned, it is the duty of a Gursikh to follow it and adopt it. Some rehits are easier to follow for some Gursikhs and harder for others. It depends on one’s prior Karma.
