Veerjio this is an excellent article with wonderful suggestions. After reading this article a thought came to mind. There are so many of us who would have been associated with technology in one form or another. We might have used prometric exam centres to do exams like multiple choice questions. Daas doesn't lives in India. But over last few years has seen this trend of speaking hindi increasing in Punjab especially in cities like Jalandhar, Chandigarh .... purpose of my post was to suggest that learning gurmukhi will help in bringing us closer to gurbani. So focus should not be just on spoken punjabi language but on reading and writing of gurmukhi script as well.by akaal74 - Gurmat Discussion Forum
This is not only a problem in english speaking western countries. Now a days in India also majority of Sikh families have taken to speaking Hindi not only outside Punjab but also in main cities in Punjab. With increasing commercialisation of kirtan seva, every Gursikh should try and learn doing kirtan seva. Even who have never touched harmonium or tabla before atleast should resolve to learn one shabad. Imagine if we had everyone in the sangat doing 1 shabad each who will need professional kirtanis. Veer Kulbir Singh jio, Daas was planning to scan and post this extract from Bhai sahib's book later today and saw your post. Dass based on personal experience can say that the best kirtan samagams are the one's where there is no concept of famous kirtanis, no restriction on time and most importantly the collective effort of the sangat present in the samagam to sing the kirtan along no matter who is doing the kirtan. Some of the memories have faded after such a long time. 3 Nov 1984: We were without any food or water. There was no possibility of going out. While reading these hukamnamas again today Daas noticed one interesting thing. In one of the files above although the hukamnama dates to 1730 AD which is after the Baisakhi of Anandpur Sahib, the names of some of the sikhs do not show Singh or Kaur. Nov 1-4 1984 were one of the most horrific days for Sikhs in India. Daas does not wants to look at the well known facts about this period which we all are aware of. There are two ways: An easy one and a difficult one. Its human mind's general tendency to try the easier one. Most of the time people tend to choose the easier option in Rehat. There is a big difference between the tradition followed on these historic days which are commonly shared with holy days for other faiths now and in puraatan times.
