Bhenjee, Even Bhai Randhir Singh jee used to recommend to his companions to nap after amritvela before getting up to work, in order to catch up on the sleep they didn't get during the night. I have no idea what Bhai Sahib's own sleeping habits were but the reality is that they were a brahmgiyani... we are not. Well said Singhni Ji. The sacrifices one has to make to keep Guru Sahib ji's rehit are all worthwhile. Guru Sahib always, always rewards his gursikhs for keeping sharda in rehit. Guru Sahib takes special care of those who follow hukam.by sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

If only this feeling could stay, sprout, and weedle its way out my heart and through my veins, blossoming like a summer day; if it could only keep growing, until my sareer is washed and glowing, a fountain which is ever flowing --- keeping my khanda from slowing. If only this feeling could stay; Sanmukh Kaur bows her head to pray to remain in the company of the saints each day.by sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

One of my 8 year old students, who comes from a mona family, has been wanting to learn to do paath. I put the sohila sahib recording on his iPod and he's been listening to that every night. We are going to put the rest of the nitnem files on his iPod too, but just listening to sohila sahib has had a surprising impact on him as he's started to wake up all by himself at 5am to do ishnaan.by sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Wonderful post Singhni jee! Learner jee, dietary bibek alone won't destroy vikaars, but in combination with naam/bani it is of significant help. I encourage you to read this article: . A lot of times people who do a lot of bhagti but don't keep rehit are driven down by vikaars, because though they may be doing kamayee they are also losing a lot of it by not obeying Guru Sahib's hukams. I went through the same thing as you bhenjee, even the part about being frustraded at being a girl and the fact that no one would take me seriously. Good for you for hanging in there. Don't give up. I promise there IS hope as long as you never give up. Gursikhs don't surrender, ever. You want to prove you are as strong as a guy, then man up. Seva is a huge gift from Guru Sahib that we should always remain inspired to take advantage of. It helps wash away so many vikaars and dukhs, if we only remember that it is not us who is doing any sort of service to others. For a Gursikh, seva is food for the soul. Please share your favourite examples/stories/images of seva here. The following are some of my favourites from the boby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

The other day I met one of the girls we had tied a dastar on during our Sikhi Day event at Guelph University. She told me that that day she had been having one of the worst days she had ever had in a really long time, but as soon as she had that dastaar tied, even her friend noticed that she totally lit up. She explained, "When it got tied, I felt so fondled, and cuddled, and protected, and loveby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Guru Sahib surely feels the pain of his children. Most of us don't care, nor do we reciprocate Guru Sahibs compassion. He is our mother. He cherishes all of his children. Ghat ghat key pat pat kee jaaney. I think he feels everyones dukh. If humans have the capacity to feel sad for others than Guru Sahib probably cries for his children... didnt his heart break when the kashmiri pandits came and pby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

I agree with you Mehtab Singh veerjee. I was actually focusing on both Sant and Sipahi. "Giving your head" is not limited to giving shaheedee in Sikhi. It's to give your whole self to Guru Sahib, through your every thought and every action. Through drirtha in rehit, through utterly selfless and loving seva to Guru-roopee saadh-sangat, through ceaseless devoted bhagti, and through unconditionallyby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum
One time, Guru Gobind Singh jee had received a new, expensive musket as a gift. Guru Sahib examined it briefly, and then, turning to his Sikhs, said: "I need to test this musket on someone: who will it be?" There was a shuffle of feet as two Sikhs jumped and ran; positioning themselves in front of the Guru they proclaimed: "I will do it!" Daal only needs to be kept in water for about 4 to 5 hours before cooking. It's fine to use a blender to blend raw ingredients. Oil is fine. I don't think we can use margarine, if the baking recipe calls for margarine replace it with butter. Crisco - do you mean vegetable shortening? That's fine too.by sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

As Jaskirat has mentioned, the problem is when dhunee is used to pump up the keertan, rather than when it occurs naturally. If you want to get more ras and anand out of keertan, then you should make every effort to focus on the shabad, especially by singing along (even if you don't understand). I guess I'm the only one who uses non-desi survival food. I've read that the Aztecs used to sustain themselves on a teaspoon of chia seeds a day when going on long journeys. I don't know how true that is, but they're supposedly extremely good for you, so I usually add them to smoothies. They kept me going for three months when I had no time to cook proper meals.
