Western society traditionally has actually been more segregated than traditional punjabi society in a lot of cases. Men and women worked and even lived in completely different spheres... men would go off to find work outside, living away from home, while women stayed behind to run the household. For most of Punjabi society though families have alwaye stayed together. Puratan Singhs and bibis whoby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

African nations have been riddled with warfare, genocide, disease, drought, and poverty for many years now. When doing Abhyaas, we notice that one part of the Mind is chanting Naam while another part is thinking about something else. Unless the Mind becomes one and all parts of Mind are concentrated on Naam, the full rewards of Naam Abhyaas are not awarded. Naam Abhyaas should continue as normal, audibly, at Amritvela, and with other part of the mind, one should attempt to hear Manglacharan, Siri Jap jby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

THE MASTER AND HIS DISCIPLES He was, almost simultaneously, celebrating his daughter’s marriage and busied with the grim business of fighting a hard battle and running to the rescue of his wounded disciples. Of this very time, it is related that two of his disciples were lying in blood, and that he went to them, wiped their faces, gave them water to drink, and caressed them, crying likeby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I love reading about Guru Hargobind Sahib jee. Their personality was so romantic and full of heroic compassion, it just makes one emotional to hear the sakhian about Guru Sahib jee's love for his Gursikhs, and the extent to which Guru Sahib jee would always go to answer the love-pangings of his devotees. The first time I ever read this was when another gursikh posted it on another site. Came across it again here and felt I had to share this inspiring tale. The Account of Guru Nanak’s Journey to Arabia Khwaja Jainul Abdin, the author of Tarikhe Arab, wrote the first-person account of Guru Nanak Dev ji’s Arabian journey. Bit of old news, but interesting to read. Has anyone read The Casual Vacancy yet? J.K. Rowling whose new novel, The Casual Vacancy, features a Sikh family at the heart of its plot has said that she has been deeply influenced by Sikhism because of its stress on gender equality. So, when she thought of introducing a "family of colour" in a predominantly white setting of her novel, "theby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

TRANSLATED BY BALDEV SINGH FROM 'ADARSHAK SINGHNIA' BY KARAM SINGH It is said that whenever any of the Rajput fort was about to be captured, all women would commit themselves to sati (burn themselves in fire), in order to protect their honor. Although, GurSikh women faced a similar situation, they did not choose sati as a way out. Why not? They had partaken Guru's amrit. They were daughteby sk - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Guru Hargobind Sahib jee is often pictured as a fierce warrior, but there are so many sakhian that show us that Guru Sahib jee's nature was overwhelmingly soft-hearted and compassionate. The story of Mata Kaulan jee is a beautiful example of the kind of love Guru Sahib jee bestows on his children. This is a great write-up.
