Testing a Sant...
January 31, 2013 02:21PM
For the last few days, the mind has been thinking about Sant Attar Singh jee Reru Sahib. Earlier on also, I wrote a small Saakhi about him and here is another one that has come to mind today. Today, dil karda hai, do Ustat of Gurmukh Pyare of my Vaheguru jee.

After getting retired from military service, Sant jee settled at Reru Sahib and did massive Bhagti there. His daily Bhagti schedule was just amazing. Slowly the fragrance of his pious Gurmukhi living spread far and wide. The Raja of Patiala was fond of doing Darshan of genuine Sants but at the same time he was against imposters. He decided to first check out Sant Reru Sahib wale. He dressed himself as an ordinary person, and along with couple of his companions arrived at the Dera.

Sant jee was not like Sants of common image who wear special clothes, special Dastaar, act special, sit on special thrones etc. but a very humble Gurmukh Pyare. He did not act like everyone’s boss and till the end of his life, did Seva of Sangat with his own hands. He used to plough the fields, work in the fields when growing crops, help out with Langar Seva e.g. distributing Langar and washing utensils etc. That day, when the Raja came, Sant jee was engaged in preparing feed for the cattle. He was sitting on the floor while doing this Seva.

The Raja came over to Sant jee, who had a special shine on his face, and asked him, “Where is Sant jee?”

Sant jee looked at them and lovingly replied, “Sant jee will also come, but what would you like to have; milk is ready and if you wish Langar too is ready?”

The Raja replied that he did not wish to have anything but Sant jee’s Darshan and then came out in the open and sat on a Manji (Indian beds). Soon some other Premis arrived and while they were washing their feet at the handpump, the Raja asked them about Sant jee. The premis, with respect, pointed out towards Sant jee. Now the Raja was really moved and he leaped forward and fell at Sant jee’s feet and said that he had committed a blunder of not recognizing him and sitting on a Manji while Sant was doing Seva.

Sant jee lovingly took the Raja to Guru Sahib’s Darbar and pointing at Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee said, “In Kaljug, Satguru jee is Pooran Sant. I am just a humble servant of Guru’s house but people have started calling me a Sant.”

When the Raja asked Sant jee for some Updesh, Sant jee stood before Guru Sahib and humbly said, “the Maharaja of Patiala had come to your Darbar, O Satguru! Please give him some Updesh.”

The following Hukamnama Sahib was blessed by Guru Sahib:

After serving the Raja with milk and other food, Sant jee said, “Because of your previous good deeds, you got kingdom in this life. Do justice and establish the Raj of Dharma in your kingdom. Have unshakable faith in Guru-ghar (the house of Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee).”

Such was the Jeevan of Gurmukh Pyare Sant Attar Singh jee Reru Sahib wale.
