Blind Singhni, Narangwal

As per hukam from Ramaamandi wale Sant jee to share some incidents from Bhai Sahib’s time. So here it goes…

Ealier this year, dass had the fortune of visiting Narangwal which incidentally is just nearby my own village. Personally, I was eager to see the pond where Bhai Sahib use to go to do Bhagti outside Narangwal. Anyway, a Singh from the village was kind enough to take me to some of Bhai Sahib’s old sangees(2 sisters). This meeting is still very fresh in my mind .Here is story of Bibi Paramjeet Kaur(Narangwal) who just lives a stone throw away from Bhai Sahibs haveli:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both Mata Ji and her sister were born and grew up in Narangwal. Both sisters would regularly go to Bhai Sahib’s house to play in the compound, at times Bhai Sahib too used to play with them. At the age of 18, Bibi Paramjeet Kaur was married to Bhai Darshan Singh.
Recently married, one day at her in law’s village, she developed a very high fever. While walking, Mata jee became unconscious and lost he eye sight making her blind. Even after a few hours after gaining consciousness, the eye sight did not return it seemed she had gone blind permanently.
It was summer in those days and Bhai Sahib used to head to Kumarhatti during summer months. Being distressed Bhai Darshan(Mata jees husband) wrote to Bhai Sahib Randheer Singh on what had transpired with Mata jee. Reading her husbands letter Bhai Sahib very touched. Bhai Sahib immediately gathered 4 more Singhs and, and all Panj Singhs stood in Sree Guru Granth Sahib jees presence to do ardass for Mata jee distressful situation. The following was the Hukamnama Sahib that SatGuroo Jeeo gave:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗ ਕੀ ਵਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਸਲੋਕਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
ਸਲੋਕ ਮ: ੩ ॥
ਰਾਗਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਸ੍ਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਮਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
ਰਤਨੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਚੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਅਕਾਰੁ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
ਮ: ੩ ॥
ਹੋਰੁ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਸਭ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਸਹ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਖੀ ਲੀਤੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ॥੨॥
ਪਉੜੀ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੋ ਦੀਬਾਣੁ ਹਰਿ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਮਰੁ ਇਕੋ ਹਰਿ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਰਿ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ਡਰੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਰਖੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਘਰਿ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਭਉ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਤਰਿ ॥੧॥
Bhai Sahib in return replied to Mata jee and wrote a very loving letter of encouragement to uplift her spirits. In the letter Bibi Jee was told to read the shabad from Hukamnama Sahib and engage in more Naam Abhiyaas:
ਮ: ੩ ॥
ਹੋਰੁ ਬਿਰਹਾ ਸਭ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਸਹ ਦੇਖੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਖੀ ਲੀਤੀਆ ਸੋਈ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ॥੨॥
Hence, bibi jee did so as told.
After a few weeks, Bibi Jee and he husband were to go to an eye specialist to be admitted into hospital for treatment. So, both came to Narangwal that day to do ardaass before Sree Guru Granth Sahib jee before heading to the hospital. Bibi jees husband did the ardaas and took the Hukamnama Sahib. (Bibi jee told me she had forgotten the hukamnama sahib but it was a mangalmaai one)
After her, husband had completed reading the Hukamnama Sahib, Bibi jee bowed down to Guru Sahib aided by another Singhni on her side to leave. As Bibi jee bowed and carried her head up, her eyes started to get blurry (instead of the usual dark blindness). Within a few seconds she started seeing red light, as her vision became clearer, she saw Sree Guru Granth Sahib jee infront of her, in red color rumalas. Bibi still unsure ,asked the Singhni on her side, “Are the rumalas on Satguroo jee in red color today?” .The Singhni replied, “Yes, but how did you know?” . Bibi Jee replied, “Because, I can see now!”.
Bhai Sahib was in Narangwal by now. News of Bibi jee gaining her sight spread instantly. Bibi Daler Kaur(Bhai Sahib’s daughter) gathered all Singhnia(in the village) in SreeGuruGranthSahib jee’s presence and did keertan for a few hours to thank Guru Sahib jee for restoring her eye sight.(there were 7 tyar bar tyar Jatha families living back then) and the trip to the hospital was never made.
Bibi Jee was blind for 1 month. What uplifted me the most was when the eye sight was restored; it was Sree SatGuru Granth Sahib that Bibi jee saw.
Million thanks Bhai Sahib Jio for sharing such a great incident. Truly Satguru Jee ਵੇਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੈਦ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਕੌਤਕ ਨੇ ਇਕਵਾਰੀ ਫਿਰ ਦਰਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਜਾਗਤ ਜੋਤ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਦਿਸਦੇ ਤੱਤ ਕੇ ਬੇਤੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਾਡੇ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੀਦਾਰੇ ਬਖਸ਼ਣ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਝੋਲੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਤਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਘ ਮਾਣ ਸਕੀਏ। smiling bouncing smiley
Beautiful Saakhi. This is the first time I am hearing of this Saakhi. Vaah! Dil Khush ho giya!
What a relevant Hukamnama Sahib, Bhai Sahib and Singhs got! I think before they were going to take Hukamnama, Maharaaj jee's Angs must have been around 400 or so and then the Paathi went further towards the left and got the rarest of rare Hukamnama Sahib. Guru Sahib is Beant. Guru Sahib's Gurmukh Sants are most loving.
