wow, the level of judgement on this board amazes me sometimes. "i can't imagine a cold or sniffle getting in the way of guru sahib's rehet" how about pneumonia? you don't even know what's wrong with the guy and you're telling them rehet is more important than their health? i'm sure you've never been ill and had to break rehet in your life? give me a break...by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
don't buy from large commercial dairies. the cows aren't allowed to wander freely, they aren't allowed to eat grass. they're fed a diet of corn and soy and hormones and forced to stand in one place all day. often their feet rot from standing in their own filth. it's horrible. buy from small local farms. always buy organic, because organic standards demand that the cow can roam freely andby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
wow, so many dastaars in the langar hall. i wish it still looked like that.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
i think it should be brought before the panj first... just as we wait until after a judge sentences someone to punish them, i think in this case we should also make sure they're really guilty first. panj piyaras can determine that better than an angry mob can.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
that's still debatable. there's no measurable alcohol content in malt vinegar. the prohibition is against intoxicants, and malt vinegar is not an intoxicant, nor can it be used as one. i think the fact that it's a processed liquid is more of an issue than the beer thing.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
He didn't ask about vinegar... he asked about extract, which happens BEFORE the fermentation. No alcohol is involved.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
also, a gursikh who gets these powers shouldn't show them off or use them for profit of any kind. that never ends well...by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
think of it this way... we eat grapes, which are the primary ingredient in wine. malt extract is no different.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Quoteperhaps instead of discarding the old school calendar along with other puratan systems of measurements, we should relearn it all. issues about applicability and practicality aside, they are undoubtedly parts of the heritage which we've already done enough damage to while we're at it, let's give up our cars and only ride horses. perhaps we can give up our kitchens and start cooking over anby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Water is also used to make beer, and we drink that... as long as it has not fermented and turned to alcohol, it should be fine.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
if you're sick, try a hot bath for a change- the steam will open your lungs and relieve congestion. baths are actually good for you when you're sick- hot for congestion or cool for fever.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
malt extract is sprouted dried barley. the barley is boiled and the liquid that's extracted is called malt extract. some people may find this too refined, but the process isn't much different from the way sugar is made. personally, i can't think of a reason that would be a problem.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
interesting topic. i agree that we should have love for fellow gursikhs. however, i also think it's ok to question anti-gurmat practices of various groups. that doesn't should have animosity with our brothers and sisters, however. respecting the individual doesn't mean we have to love the practices. i guess my point is that ekta shouldn't stop us from examining various practices throughby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
oh dear. it seems i've been misunderstood- yet again. i'm sorry i'm so poor at explaining myself. it's not wrong to tell a sakhi about how guru sahib took birth. however, if you look at the thousands of women who make pilgrimage to baba budha di bir gurdwara, in hopes that THEY will also have a son (bringing with them missi roti and onions), you can see how these things can get out of contrby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
QuoteI have also heard this story and if Guru Sahib said 5 sons were to be born we can't change it and replace it with 5 daughters because it is not politically correct um, a sakhi is not gurbani. it's a story, told by a human being. it can be wrong... that's why i asked the source. the idea that boys are a boon and girls are not is not in accordance with gurmat. all sakhis must be lookby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
to punish the sinners? or maybe to give us poor sinners another chance? christians believe god puts sinners in hell for eternity. surely god is merciful because he only consigns us to life as an animal or tree, and because that life is mortal we may get another chance at another life in the future. in the end though, only waheguru knows why he does what he does. ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
veerjee? what collection is this sakhi taken from? i know i should be only looking at the positive, but there's something that really stung me when reading this sakhi. QuoteThereafter he went to his town in Malwa and as per Guru Sahib`s boon had 5 Rehitvaan sons and had a very blessed and happy life. now, why is guru sahib's boon to have five SONS? why not five rehetvaan daughters? why nby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
bibi jee had a way of knowing things. once during a raensabaee, i was tired and having trouble focusing. bibi jee leaned over to me and said, "let's go get some prashad". i said sure, but i wondered where we were going to get it. she lead me around to where the amrit sanchar was being held. to my surprise, she knocked on the door! the door opened and she knelt down and held up her hands, "by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum

why do you tell a sakhi about sant jarnail singh jee to support sarbloh bibek as the "only" true rehet, when he himself did not keep it? the confusion i have is that you guys seem to be saying that if someone does not keep sarbloh in the same way you do, that they are not gursikhs. but what about all the gursikhs in the world who do tons of naam simran, tons of seva, tons of paath, AND have hby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
i think the original question was WHY it's done that way (by some people), not whether it's right or wrong.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
it's what i've been told by taksali singhs. perhaps someone more knowledgeable on the board can verify.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
the taksali style of santhiya is to pronounce gurbani exactly as it's written. since gurbani does not include any bindia, this means no "sh", no "z", etc. the theory behind it is that this way we won't make any mistakes in trying to add bindia, like adding them in the wrong place. it's good for beginners like me who don't have much knowledge of gurbani grammar.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
bhenjee, don't worry too much about it. what is being described is just one way of understanding bibek. there are a lot of different interpretations. the vast majority of sarblohi gursikhs i have met (in the west and india) will humbly and happily accept food from the hands of any amritdhari gursikh. everyone seems to have their own understanding.by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
just so i'm clear, if an amritdhari gursikh who doesn't keep strict sarbloh rehet touches your dishes with clean hands, the dishes become dirty and must be washed. the amritdhari gursikh's hands can never be clean, because they don't keep sarbloh. but the sarbloh they touch CAN be clean, after it's been washed by a sarblohi sikh. is that correct?by 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
i can share some of her story, hopefully others can fill in the blanks. bibi harkirin kaur khalsa was called to sikhi at a time when there were no white sikhs. before yogi jee spread sikhi in the west, there was bibi jee, one of the only women in america wearing a dastaar. she lived as a gursikh for 10 years before being blessed with amrit. she had been searching for years for amritby 1kaur - Gurmat Discussion Forum
