I was just wondering what are the main differences between the way Gurbani Ucharan is done in Sampradas (eg taksal), and others such as AKJ, Sikh Missionary?

Is it true that even among Taksalis and Nihangs some believe in more pronounciation of laga matras and some less, and some believe in bindia and some don't? Also in AKJ and missionary, is it that the Gurbani is read simply as it is EXCEPT laga maatras, but also bindia are added?

Are there any other differences is one to learn from a sampradyaik school of thought as opposed to missionary, akj, etc.?

thank you

There are different schools of thought as far as Gurbani Uchaaran is concerned. Some pronounce nasal sounds and some don't. Some pronounce more laga and some don't. Since Gurbani is infinite, no one can claim to know complete truth about it. All schools of thought pronounce Gurbani considering it to be most Shudh and as such their intentions are good. It is not wise to fight with each other over this.

Traditionally AKJ pronounces nasal sounds, places great emphasis on correct Bishraams, does not pronounce Laghu maatras (aunkad, sihaari) at end of words etc. This is how mainstream Panth pronounces Gurbani. Just listen to any kirtaniya. There were some Gurmukhs within AKJ who did advocate pronouncing laghu maatras e.g. Talwara jee but this Daas confirmed with Gurmukhs who took Santhiya from Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee that Bhai Sahib did not teach pronouncing Laga Maatra e.g. aunkad sihaari in the end. Having said that this is also confirmed that Bhai Sahib did not mind Singhs who pronounced these laghu laga maatra in the end of words.

So the best thing is to pronounce Gurbani as it seems perfect but not fight with anyone over this issue.

Daas,
Kulbir Singh

Missionary, AKj, and modern taksal all sprung up during the same time during the SIngh Sabha Movement. However, the problem is many people confuse the modern Taksal with the Ancient Taksal of Sri Dasmesh Pita Ji and thus become under the belief that the way modern taksal pronounces is the true and right way. Again i see no point in arguing about these matters as Veer Ji said only GUru Sahib knows the right way all we can do is attempt to please GUru Sahib.
