would chewing gum be considered appropriate for a singh/singhee ?

Just a curiousity which arose in daas's mind over the past few days. It is questionable due to the fact that one simply chews the gum, but doesn't swallow it. So what aspect of bibek can be applied here? I know a good fellow in my school who chews on "elaichee" and says its good for you and also gives you the same breath and cooling feel as chewing gum.

Is that an appropriate alternative ?

chewing gum is SO not bibek! neither is candy, for the record, unless you make it yourself. smiling smiley

elaichee should be an acceptable substitute. fennel seeds (saunf) also refresh the breath.

Bhain jee said it very clearly. Chewing gum is not Gurmat Bibek. I have not seen any Sarblohi Bibeki Singh chewing gums, either here or in India.
