Was Gurbani Grammar ever taught in Guru period?

Posted by eyesacademic
Importance of Gurbani Grammar is obvious and need not be stated again and again. But occasionally questions comes to my mind:

- Was Gurbani Grammar ever taught in Guru ji's times, in any form? Is there any reference/ ਸੰਕੇਤ about this anywhere?
- If it was taught, then there should be some granth on the subject existing somewhere. Why is there not a single granth found on this subject? Was it simply that the rules were understood implicitly and the need of writing an explicit teaching never arose? (Keeping in mind that Gurbani grammar is NOT a full blown grammar of a language, it is just an explanation of how spellings of gurbani words follow certain rules)

- How did this vidya disappear completely? It is easily understandable that Dal Khalsa went through tough times for almost a century and they may have lost the vidya and its granths BUT what about udaasi, nirmalays sants, and others like Hoti Mardan sampardaye, Damdami Taksaal and many others?
