VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

[gurbanifiles.org]

Jio, click the link for Rehras Sahib and continue until Ardas. Are you sure you haven't been doing this, as all Maryadas prescribe doing these verses as well? Many Gursikhs will read a few additional verses (some have very long Nitnem for evening as well) after this as well, but the minimum is what is included in the link.

The goal should be to remember Vaheuru saas saas graas graas. Always keep him in mind all the time. Be always caring/compassionat/down to earth( SAT/SANTOSK/VICHAROO)...no ego....

There is no minimum.
It should be such that you wish there were more hours in the day because you just can't jap enough.

Amrit vela should ideally be anytime after between 1am and 4am.. At this time you should find it much easier to settle and take your surat inwards.
Once you get adept, you realize how important the rehat is for discipline and why guruji gave it.
Then you will become aware that this structured discipline of repeating every day at set times will be helping you in simran and jeevan jaach by helping you master your own Mind......after all... it's ALL a play of the Mann(mind).
The amrit vela, the rehat within the creation(Kar),.... will be encouraging your own inner discipline of the mind and it's weaknesses to the 5 dhoot.
This is how the sikh starts transforming from manmukh to gurmukh, and as gurbani says from iron to gold(kanchan).

As mentioned by Ekdaasji above, the goal is to get to that 24 hour 'andin' where every single moment and second becomes that heavenly hour(amrit vela) and waheguru naam is emanating both within and without.
To get to this, you must have the LOVE and the love has to be strong enough to get you up every day same time regardless of pain or tiredness..
You get to a stage where you won't even calculate what hours you slept or not because waheguru kirpa will just get you up automatically without fail and without the need of alarm clock.

VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

Amrit vela: As the name suggests it is the time when there is Amrit. The clock does not know Amrit vela but you will. Whatever time of the day when you connect with Waheguru, that is Amrit vela. However, it is easier to do so in the early hours of dawn because of less disturbance as most people will sleep. If you look at the lives of great Saints, almost all of them utilised the early hours of dawn for contemplation.

Nitnem is 24hours continuous remembrance of Waheguru ji. No less than this is acceptable. As soon as you disconnect, you will be attacked by Kalyuga: ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮਿਲਤੇ ਤਾ ਕਲਿਜੁਗੁ ਹੋਤਾ ॥ (Ang 96)
Hope this helps.

Getting up early in the morning is important in Sikhism. It is Correct that when we jap naam that vela becomes Amrit Vela but still Gurbani says that getting up early and chanting name is important and mandatory.

"Jhalange uth naam jap nis baasur aaradh
Kara tujhe na byapaee nanak mitae upaafdh"

Another hukam

""Parbhate prab naam jap gur ke charan Dhiaae
janam maran mal utrae sache k gun gaaye"

And in the below pankti Fareed Ji says if you do not wake in the early hours before dawn then you are dead while yet alive.

"Farida pichal raat na jaaageyo jivandado muiyo
je tae rabb visaarya ta rabb na visaryo"

And there are many more hukams from Guru sahib which states that we should follow getting up in early naam

"Gur satgur ka jo Sikh akhaaye so palke uth har naam dhiyaavae"

So for a gursikh it is a mandatory karam.

Bhul Chuk maaf

Khalsa Gagan Singh ji, WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

Well quoted ! This is very enlightening. Thank you very much for your help. Yes getting up early seems to be the Hukam of Akal Purakh.

For the benefit of other readers, I am quoting again in Gumukhi:

Ang 255 Line 6 Raag Gauri: Guru Arjan Maharaj
Rise early in the morning, and chant the Naam; worship and adore the Lord, night and day.

Ang 1099 Line 17 Raag Maaroo: Guru Arjan Maharaj
In the early hours of the morning, chant the Name of God, and meditate on the Feet of the Guru Maharaj.

Ang 305 Line 16 Raag Gauri: Guru Ram Das ji Maharaj
One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru shall rise in the early morning hours and meditate on the Naam.

Khalsa ji please provide more quotes on the same if possible. Thank you in advance.

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

I would also like to share one Saakhi related to Amrit Vela.

When Dhan Dhan Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji reached Sarsa Nadi after leaving the Anandpur fort they stopped there and did Amrit Vela. Mughals were behind, which means life was in danger but they said Amrit wela is more important than anything else. This shows the importance of Amrit Vela. Being a Guru himself , Dashmesh Pita never backed out from Amrit Vela and taught us that even in worst situation a Sikh should not forget his Amrit wela. Guru Sahib Kirpa karan saade te v.
