I was recently doing Veechars with a few Singhs on this Pauri of Bhai Sahib Bhai Gurdas Jee:
The last line ਬੰਦੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ॥ has been translated by most Gursikhs like this: That while remaining within the limits/bonds of Maya only rare people (ਵਿਰਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ) can do Bhagti.
However a Gursikh pointed out the following line from Sri Asa dee Vaar: Here whilst talking about Gurmukhs Guru Sahib has said that they (Gurmukhs) break away from the bonds of the World (Maya). Another line from Sri Asa dee Vaar is: Those people are Sevaks (Gurmukhs) who bind themselves to whatever Guru Sahib says. This is Rehat and all Hukams of Guru Sahib. They are dedicated to getting Darshan so they follow all Hukams and keep all Rehat so they may be blessed with Darshan. They bind themselves to the words and orders of Guru Sahib. So going back to the first line Could the arths be that only ਵਿਰਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ (Rare people) can keep full Rehat and all Hukams of Guru Sahib, only rare people can bind themselves to the Hukams of Guru Sahib and these rare people are Gurmukhs, which the entire Pauri has talked about before the last line.
What does the Sangat think?
