Memories of India Trip - December 2012

Posted by Kulbir Singh
Continued from - [gurmatbibek.com]

We are back from our December 2012 trip to India. It was a very busy and eventful trip. As written before, we had the fortune of having Darshan Ishnaan of Siri Amritsar Sahib. Apart from this, we also had Darshan of Siri Dukh Nivaran Sahib Patiala and many loving Gursikhs around Punjab.

Parchaar Attempts in Punjab

The common person is totally engrossed in the works of Maya. He has no time or an opportunity to think about the spiritual purpose of life. Having said that, the silver lining is that people are very receptive to hearing and adopting Gurmat. The problem is that many don't get to hear Gurmat and ones who do get to hear about Gurmat, don't get opportunity to do Sangat of Gursikhs who follow Gurmat.

This time we got an opportunity to present some Gurmat views to people over there and the response was overwhelming. People of one village had never heard about Laridaar Saroop and when they were informed in detail about the desecration of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee by publishing pad-chhed Saroops, they were shocked to hear this. The whole village pledged that they would do Prakash of only Laridaar Saroop in their 2 Gurdwara Sahibaans in their village. They went to SGPC (Amritsar Sahib) , got some Laridaar Saroops and had them installed at the throne in the two Gurdwaras of their village. They confirmed from SGPC, if the Pad-chhed Saroop was from Guru Sahib and when they heard that it was not from Guru Sahib, they asked the officials as to why were they being published then? The SGPC officials had no answer.

Furthermore, they requested that they be given training in doing Paath from Laridaar Saroop and this is where we felt helpless since we ourselves could not do this since we had to come back to Canada and we could not provide a permanent Sevadaar to give them deep Santhiya from Laridaar Saroop. But some sort of arrangement was made. We spent another day to answer their questions on many Gurmat issues. Many families and individuals from this village have made up their mind to get Pesh at the Ludhiana Samagam in January. Guru Sahib Kirpa karan.

Similarly, at this village and few other places, Parchaar of Gurmukhi Baana, Gurmat dietary Bibek and Laridaar Saroop was done and many individuals pledged that now on they would go in the Hazoori of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee only wearing Baana (and not Pant-Kameez), adopt Bibek Rehit, accept Laridaar Saroop alone as their Guru. Many have resolved to start reading books of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee, do Paath, keep Kesh and chhak Amrit.

We have felt that if teams of Gursikhs do Parchaar by targeting few villages a year, and spend about 2-3 months in India, a great progress can be made in the Parchaar of Gursikhi. May Guru Sahib enable us all to take up our responsibility of spreading Gurmat in Punjab and abroad.

Angry People full of Rage and Courteous Police

People are walking around like time bombs waiting to explode. Rage is epidemic amongst youth there. They are looking for an excuse to fight. When going to India, one should avoid getting into unnecessary arguments. The last thing you need is to spoil your day by getting into an altercation match or worse a fist fight.

Of course, if the issue of Dharma, then there is no choice but to fight but in most cases, one can easily avoid trouble by following Gurmat principles of love, affection, humility and magnanimity. If you are in Baana, the chances are you will seldom get into trouble.

Our car was stopped by police many times and while they demanded regular citizens for papers and documents, they always let us go as soon as they looked at us (wearing Baana and Dumaalay). At one time in Patiala, we inadvertantly committed a traffic offence and at first the constable charged at us angrily but when he saw Singhs in the car, he immediately changed his behaviour and respectfully asked us to not do so again. It should be mentioned that this said offence was done as a misunderstanding and was not intentional.

Bhai Mahinder Singh jee and Bhai Bakshish Singh jee

A lot of hue and cry is made out of the so called split in Jatha after the Akal Chalana of Bhai Puran jee but after meeting Bhai Mahinder Singh jee and Bhai Bakshish Singh jee, during this trip, all such misunderstandings from our minds were dispelled. Here are the salient features of our understanding:

• Bhai Mahinder Singh jee and Bhai Bakshish Singh jee are on very friendly terms with each other. They respect each other and visit each other often.

• There is no enmity between the two; rather they are on very friendly terms.

• Bhai Bakshish Singh mentioned that there is no difference between the two as far as Gurmat is concerned.

• Bhai Mahinder Singh jee too mentioned that Bhai Bakshish Singh wants to do exactly what he wants to do, i.e. bring back pristine and authentic Rehit Maryada in Jatha and curb the rising weakness in Rehit within the Jatha.

• Bhai Mahinder Singh is regularly invited at the Samagams organized by Bhai Bakshish Singh jee (e.g. a special Naam Kamaaee Samagam at his home in December), and he performs Ardaas there as well.

• Other Sarblohi Singhs of Majha e.g. Maliyaan Singhs, respect and love Bhai Mahinder Singh and Bhai Mahinder Singh jee too reciprocates similar feelings for them.

• In short, all Sarblohi Singhs including Bhai Mahinder Singh jee and Bhai Bakshish Singh jee love each other. The differences are minor and insignificant. They are on very friendly terms and there is no negative feeling between the them.

Some Advices and Helpful Comments from Gurmukhs

• The Patitpuna (tendency of the youth to become Patit) has increased in the last few decades and one reason for this increase is that now the general Sikh population of Punjab has started eating from Nadi-maar (tobacco consuming) and Sirgums (people who cut hair) despite the Hukam not to do so. In olden days, in the villages, mothers used to take extra care in watching what their kids ate and from whom. No one ate from strangers. The minds of people become similar to the minds of people they eat food from.

• Milk is the best food. So many foods are prepared from milk e.g. gheo, butter, paneer, Khoya, cheese, yogurt, lassi and what not. Then from milk sub products, so many more products are produced e.g. from Khoya you make Barfi, Ghulab Jamun etc; from Paneer you can make Paneer Pakoray, Paneer Bhurji, Shahi Paneer, Matar Paneer. In short, dozens of products can be made from milk.

• Milk is like Amrit and should not be sold. Sikh men and women should get milk from buffaloes and cows themselves and not through Sirgums and Nadimaar Bhaiyaas, as is the practice prevalent now a days. Milking cows and buffaloes makes one strong.

• One Bazurg who was over 60 years old, still drinks only raw milk and he is strong like a bull. He said that Bowli (the first milk from buffalo) is very good for your health, He says that if one drinks the first bowli (first day milk after first calf is born), without boiling, then one never gets back pain. He says he can do Goddi of half an acre of land with kahee without getting tired.

• Take 2.5kg Awla, 0.5 kg rose flowers, 5kg honey. Mix them and expose them to sunlight for 30 days. Start eating two spoons of this Murabba, after 12 days. It will keep the flu away and make you very healthy.

• Watch what you eat. If you are a Bibeki, then make sure you eat from Gursikhs you know, so that your Bibek is not interrupted. (Bhai Mahinder Singh jee)

• Some time should be spent in doing Bhagti alone, i.e. Naam Abhyaas should be done alone too. It enhances your Avastha very much. (Bhai Bakshish Singh jee)

• Try doing continuous Naam Abhyaas for 9 – 10 hours. Do so with concentration. Then see the results. (Bhai Bakshish Singh jee)

• Read Bhai Sahib jee's books carefully and regularly for inspiration to do Bhagti involving Naam Simran and Gurbani Paath/Kirtan. (Bhai Bakshish Singh jee)

• Don't run after Maya. Your main aim here is to do Bhagti. Earn Maya only as much as required.

• Spend more time in learning real education i.e. Gurbani as opposed to the poisonous worldly education. The Gursikh who gave us this Bachan was a high rated officer when he got inspired to become a Gursikh. Then he had a massive accident in which his car was totalled but he survived without a scratch. After this miracle, he gave up working and dedicated his life to only doing Sehaj Paath with understanding. He got his children too out of school and as a family do Paath day and night. There is a special Noor on his face. They do Sehaj Paaths with discipline and spend all day doing just that. All their needs are being taken care of, by Guru Sahib. He said that if you serve the Guru, then Guru takes care of your needs. If worldly education can enable us to get money, how is it possible that by doing Gurbani education (by doing Paath with understanding), you would remain lacking anything?

• If you want to do Bhagti and if you want to retain your Kamaaee, then stay as low profile as possible.

Kotaan-Kot Shukraana of Guru Sahib for giving us the opportunity to have Darshan Ishnaan of Gur-Asthaans and have Darshan-Melay with many wonderful Gursikhs. The loving Singhs of Majha, Doaba and Malwa gave us immense love and received and served us very well. Dhanvaad to all Gursikhs of Punjab for their generosity.

Kotaan-Kot Shukraana of you too Bhai Kulbir Singh jeeo for sharing such information. For me personally when you quoted:

What is left to say after Bhai Sahib has written such a wonderful account of our trip?

From our experience this trip we realized as a jatha that pind vale are very receptive to parchaar. Even the uneducated people when they found out that they had been cheated by SGPC over Guru Sahib's saroop were furious. Taking heed from this incident everyone is encouraged to do parchaar in their pind back home about larivaar Saroop and ask the Gurdwara Sahib to do parkaash of Guru Sahib.

If we dont even ask committees to do parkaash then how can we expect a change to happen? Who knows, out of asking 10 times one of the committees might make this change. If even one Gurdwara Sahib starts to do parkaash then that is a huge achievement.

One thing that we saw lacking was education of Bhai Sahib's books within jatha. Even very active forefront members have never read Bhai Sahib's books and it is the cause of dhilla-ness that has creeped into to jatha. Jathedaar jee stresses to everyone to read Bhai Sahib's books if we want to understand Gurmat, and we should really take the initiative as outside sangat to become familiar with Bhai Sahib's writing. Only then can we tell others to follow suite.

With Guru Sahib's kirpa we will try to upload a few pictures in this thread.
