Sikh.Learner ji,

There is no such reference in Gurbanee as IK OANKAAR or EK OANKAAR.
So pl first it would be better if you post it with proper quote from Gurbanee
then only it would be possible for any one to answer your question.

I think he means from the mool mantar jee...

A gurmukh told me Onkar is a combination of three words; creator, sustainer, and destroyer (don't know the original words). Hindus believed brahma vishnu and shiva did these three things separately. Guru sahib said there is only one Vaheguroo who does all three of these things. No i don't think it has anything to do with Om.

Correct me if i'm wrong jee, gurmukhs on this forum can answer your question better, that's just what i've learned.

gsingh ji,

One can see that the word ONKAAR has two words as

Word ਓਅੰ and word KAAR by adding these two word

one gets a SINGLE WORD as ONKAAR.

"Onkar is made of three words - Akaar, Okaar, Makaar. i.e. Utpati, Palna, Nash.

(Akaar/Utpati means he himself created everthing)
(Okaar/Palna means he himself sustains everthing)
(Makaar/Nash means he himself destroys everthing)"

I found this on another site, this is what I was referring to. Guru sahib combined these 3 words to form Ik Oankaar and show that there's only one ie. Vaheguroo.

The perfect Viakhya of Ik Oankaar is the rest of the mool mantar.

No Prakash Jee I can't. Like I said, that's just what i've learned from gursikhs. I don't think you will find anything in gurbani that proves the words were combined. And if there is something, then I don't have the knowledge to find it.

Sikh learner ji,

Prbably you are considering the very first SYMBOL of the soknown Mool Mantar.

The SYMBOL basically consist of three parts as

1..Numerical Number 1 Pronounced as IK or EK not confirmed what should be correct

2...A WORD.This word is written as ਓਅੰ and Sikhs pronounce this as OAN/ONG whereas Hindu might pronounce this as OUM

3...A curved line This is known as KAAR. a sign of continuity or a Wave

Now one can see the word ਓਅੰ does not have three words. This is basically a WORD based on LETTER ਓ itself with ਅੰ as
sound Matra.

"Now one can see the word ਓਅੰ does not have three words."

Prakash jee, I did not mean oungkar is actually three words itself and can physically be broken up as such...I meant it's a whole new word that was formed from three previous words. Those three words are not found in the new word.

ਓਅੰ ਸਾਧ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੰ ॥ ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੰ

One can observe that the word ਓਅੰ is common for almost every sect in Eastern part of the word.
The very first SYMBOL in Gurbanee is also based on this word ਓਅੰ along with prefix as Numerical Number ONE
and Suffix as a Curved line refered as KAAR.

One can see that this word in Gurbanee has been refered as SATiGuR in Baanee by Bhagat Kabir
ji as

ਓਅੰ ਸਾਧ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੰ ॥ ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੰ pp250 SGGS ji.

Now from above consideration one should be able to know the meaning of EK..ONG..KAAR.
