Regardless of how much Rehit you keep etc. If you cannot follow the basic Gur-Hukams in GurbaNee of not doing Ninda, Chuglee and lying then what good is your so called Rehit, it's totally pakhand. Enough said.......

Keeping outer Rehit is Hukam and not doing Ninda, Chugli, lying, stealing etc. are also Hukam. Why should you say that your outer Rehit is Pakhand if other Hukam is not obeyed? Just like doing Chugli is against Gurmat, same way not keeping Rehit is also against Hukam. Sikhs of Guru Sahib are under obligation to obey all Hukams.

Having said that, care should be taken by Gursikh to not indulge in slandering, Chugli, stealing and lying and by the same token, we should not expect a Gursikh to be a perfect Sant-Mahapurakh as soon as he starts keeping Rehit. It takes time to bring Bikaars under control. Rehit is kept right at the beginning stages of spirituality, at the time when one is still struggling against 5 Bikaars. It is not fair to say or expect a Rehitvaan Gursikh to right away bring all 5 Bikaars under control and not make any mistake. Gursikhs are humans and do make mistakes. Nindaks and jealousy-doing people pick on these mistakes and start slandering and bad-mouthing Rehit. Such people are Agyaanis (foolish, ignorant) who don't know that the high spiritual Jeevan comes with Naam and Gurbani, and not with Rehit alone. Rehit and other Hukams of Gurbani aid in chanting Naam and Naam in return cleans the mind of a Gursikh, and in due time, frees him (or her) of vices and Bikaars.

Daas has a related question.

What is the definition of Ninda/Chugli as per gurbani? Does this include any kind of talk about a 3rd person in his/her absence?

Daas came up with a scenario recently where daas spent some time with very close relatives. They are very shadhavaan sikh but have no idea of what is gurmat and naam abhyaas kamai. Throughout their life they have done a lot of seva in Gurdwara sahib. Do wake up amritvela at 3AM and do Nitnem and Sukhmani sahib daily. Are very good at heart as well.

But

They have no idea what't the difference between a sikh of Guru Nanak sahib, radha swami, nakli nirankari etc etc etc...... For them every parcharak be it current missionaries, or anyone else who is spreading more and more confusion about Gurmat if a person is in Sikhi saroop, to them all look Sikh and they get fooled into believing what that person is saying.

Daas engaged in a lot of positive discussion over few weeks and with Guru sahib's kirpa they are at a stage where they want to get Amrit di daat and be blessed with all rehat including keski and bibek. But during this disucssion daas had to talk about a lot that's going on around derawad, so caaled baabe which are eating the Sikh panth, kirtanis their life style etc etc to convince them that the only required measure of finding true sangat is if they become Guru waale, get naam drid and engage in bhagti.

Will talking negative about all these be considered ninda/chugli? Lot of this was based on the personal experience of meeting so many different parcharaks in my lifetime so far.

Ninda is bad-mouthing and slandering other people. Chugli is a particular type of Ninda which is done to spoil someone's work.

Ninda should be avoided, even if the Ninda is true but at the same time if need be, then speaking the truth about someone is not a negative Karma but disclosing other people's shortcomings and mistakes, just to hurt the person or just for entertainment constitutes bad Karma. Here are some thoughts about Ninda:

1. Lying about someone is a Ninda e.g. to falsely accuse a person of drinking when that person does not drink liquor is a Ninda and to falsely praise someone is called Ustat. Such Ninda and Ustat must be avoided.

2. If someone has a shortcoming or commits a mistake and we find out about it, we should not take role of a tabloid and tell the whole world about it. This is also a Ninda that should be avoided but if there is benefit to the society in telling of someone's mistake, then there is nothing wrong in doing so. As an example if someone is a thief and is known to befriend other people and rob them, then there is nothing wrong in warning others about such person.

3. Chugli involves backbiting whereby one slanders other to spoil his work. This should be avoided at all cost.

In your case Akaal7 jeeo, I see nothing wrong in telling your relatives about Radhasoamis or other Sant-dummees. This is not Ninda but Parupkaar. If the government warns its citizens about counterfiet currency it is not doing Ninda. Same way, to tell others about counterfiet sants and holymen is not Ninda. To tell others that Khalsa Panth is the only true Panth and that Guru-dummees like Radhasoamis, Sacha Sauda etc are false, is not doing Ninda and Chugli.

akaal74 Jee, it is great you are doing parchar against Deravaad and fake babas to your relatives. But please also warn them of the missionaries/kala afghanis. They are just as anti Gurmat as the fake babas and deravaadis. In fact I would say they are even more anti Gurmat. Too many SIkhs(even in Jatha!!) have been fooled by these anti-Gurmat elements because they do their koor Parchar in guise of Anti-Deravaan Parchar to first initially attract the gullible Sikh. Once the Sikh is hooked to them, they then start to brainwash using their Kala Afghana(Kaum-Nusht) philosophy. Today too many Bhole-Bhaalay Sikhs have been seduced by these missionary parcharaks like Dhunda who in reality are closet Kala Afghanis.

Akaaaal74 , I stronly recommend you give a copy of Bhai Sahibs book " Gurmat Veechar" to your relatives. In this book there is a chapter titled
" Sikh Kaun Heh" ( Who is a Sikh) . Bha Sahib states those that dont obey the Hukums of Dasmesh Pita Ji ( ex. Khanda Di Pahul, kakkars etc) cannot refer to themselves asa GurSikh. Bhai Sahib proves this by using Gurbani and vaars of Bhai Gurdas Ji. For example, those that accepted Guru Nanak Dev Ji but not Guru angad DEv Ji as Guru then they were not Sikhs instead they were veymukhs. Those that accepted Guru Angad Dev Ji but not Guru Amard Das Ji were veymukhs as well. The same logic applies up to Sri Dasmesh Pita JI. SOme examples of such Manmukhs include the meenas. Gurbani and Vaars both portray meenas in a negative light. Bhai Sahib mentions those who see a difference between Sri Guru NanaK DEv Ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji are not Sikhs. In summary, thosew who follow their own will and not the Gurus will are not Sikhs of the GUru.

In regards to Ninda and Chugless, Bhai Gurdas Ji has given us the perfect cure.
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੰਨਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਪਹੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਨ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ।

Ones ears should not listen to the praise or slander of someone; instead they should be thinking themselves as bad when others beings slandered . They should also not speak of bad to anyone. This verse show thats in Gurmat ninda does not just refer to speaking bad about someone. It refers to listening to slander, thinking of slander, and speaking slander.

One can look at the following Quote from Banee Sukhmanee as
ਇਸ ਕਾ ਬਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਸੁ ਹਾਥ ॥ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ॥ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਫੁਨਿ ਥੀਉ ॥ ਕਬਹੂ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੈ ॥ ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਸੈ ॥ ਕਬਹੂ ਨਿੰਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥ ਕਬਹੂ ਊਭ ਅਕਾਸ ਪਇਆਲ ॥ ਕਬਹੂ ਬੇਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰ ॥੫॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 277}
One should ,therefore always be doing Ardaasi before Satiguru ji to keep us away from indulgence of any such unacceptable behaviour
and always keep under grace of being connected with Naamu.
