Where to get Sarbloh utensils in Panjab?

Guru Pyaario,

Daas is going to India in April and wished to buy some Sarbloh utensils. Can anyone guide me where to buy them in Amritsar or Jalandhar area? Also, can you get the shiny/polished Sarbloh like the ones that are sold in Toronto area?

The best place to get baateh is Ghadua (ਘੜੂਆਂ) and it is in district Ropar of Punjab.
I dont have a number. I'm sure someone here will. In Amritsar it's best to go the Trust near Baba Atal Gurdwara.
The Singhs their can help in getting utensils

Also there are quite a few of those Toronto baateh in the UK. They might be available via Stall, if Guru Sahib wills.

The best place to buy Sarbloh bhande: "SWARAN SINGH AND SONS, Shop No: 1924, Bazaar Lohara, Chowk Lakshmansar, Amritsar"

The Singhs from Rangle Sajjan Trust suggested me this shop. Its close to the trust and Baba Deep Singh ji Gurdwara. Go to the gali going to Baba Deep Singh jee gurdwara from Baba Atal Gurdwara and ask anyone where is "Lohara(n) da bazzar" Its very near within the puzzled lanes.
There is only one shop specialised in Sarbloh (which Dass has mentioned above). They have everything ranging from Sarbloh spoons, lunchboxes, pressure cookers and big massive cauldrons.

You can contact them and order anything to be made before you come. Their contact number is 9915882935. Use appropriate codes.

There is is new sort of "sarbloh" which utensil sellers in India will try to sell you which "apparently doesn't rust". The magnet does stick to it though. Majority of Sarblohis dont use it to cook or eat neither do singhs consider it acceptable as shudh sarbloh. Hence, dont fall into their trap and buy it.

The best one will be Ghadua (ਘੜੂਆਂ) which falls in the Mohali District.(not ropar) Its roughly about 30-40 minutes drive from Chandigarh.Daas was there and you need to place an order to get whatever you want to get made in advance. But they can make you anything in any required size. Have their contact card with dass, will re-post once dass gets the time.
Forks are only made in ghadua though...grinning smiley

If you are in Amritsar, then Taksal shop and Sukha Singh Batia wala(ask taksal shop guys should be able to guide you), but you can expect being overcharged.

If you are attending major Smagams like Amritsar then there ussually 2 stalls by Jatha affliated individuals set up selling sarbloh utensils.

I second what Chatrik jee has mentioned. The so called Sarbloh utensils that don't rust and are being sold in India, have been rejected by Singhs in India. So don't buy them. If the Sarbloh utensil does not rust, then that means that Sarbloh Tatt (essence) is not passed on to the food either. For this reason, these utensils are not used by Sarblohi Singhs.

Veerjee I know you're looking for someone in Amritsar/Jalandar area, but wanted to provide an info of someone is Delhi as well, just in case you happen to be there, or if someone stumbles upon this topic looking for someone in Delhi.

There is a Singh in Delhi, named Arvinder Singh who does seva of providing sarbloh bhaandey during samaagams. He has his own factory and makes bhaandey on custom orders and also can make not so usual orders, I.e. forks, baking pans, etc. I think he asks for pictures for reference for such orders. And he provides them all polished up. His contact info. Is 8800557812 (please put appropriate codes w/ that no.), and his email is lohgarh@hotmail.com. I don't know how he handles orders, but since you are going in April, you can try calling him now and see if they would be available to pick up during that time. I hope it helps. smiling smiley

We've tried to contact Bhai Darshan Singh Gharrua and the Singhs at 9915882935777 and both don't make pressure cookers. Does anyone know where we can find them in Punjab?

Sarbloh pressure cooker doesn't make much sense. Pressure cooker uses intense amounts of steam for prolonged period of time, it would definitely cause rust throughout the cooker and into the food too. Jangaal vaalee daal is gross.

its funny how we separate ourselves.from Sarbloh, but we are born from that same Sarbloh, i.e. Amrit Bata is prepared in Sarbloh, and we carry Sarbloh with us till we die, meaning the Sarbloh Kirpaan and Karraa, yet we think Sarbloh is gross. I don't understand this new age thinking that has entered the minds of some Gursikhs. confused smiley

Of course the one dass saw in Ghadua had a bigger mouth-opening & they also make a sarbloh plate as its cover. Trust me, have seen a Singh making Daal and Sabzee in it and it functions just like a pressure cooker. Cooks daal very fast .
But it requires more care though.

Otherwise, a regular Sarbloh pateela along with an sarbloh cover does the job well anyway.

I don't know of anyone who likes to eat in Jangaaley hoye bhaanday and rust covered food, but now that I know you love that flavor I will make sure we serve you utmost rusty daal if you ever come to smagam here and eat anything. smiling smiley

Can someone please make a list of must have sarbloh utensils for cooking in and eating out of, for someone who does not have a history of either sarbloh or cooking lol.

Didn't think of the little things like having a sarbloh cover etc. so please help a brother out!

All you need is a Medium sized to large Karahi, plus 2 Batai and a chamcha.

Dass has a humble query. Apart from Sarblohi Kakaars (Kripaan + Kara) and Sarblohi Cooking (+ Eating) Utensils what other Sarblohi Bibeks may be considered/excused ?

There are other things/items being used in day-to-day activity which may be Sarbloh (in this computer age).

Bathing :
Instead of Plastic/Fibre Bucket & Mug we may use Sarblohi Bucket and Mug while Bathing (Ishnaan). In olden days Sangat use to go to Sarovars or River Banks for Ishnaan.
One Gyani Jee even stressed that the Bucket and Mug should be thoroughly washed before having Ishnaan. Specially the Village Sangat who use the same Bucket for preparing Dalia/Pathe for Dangars/Pashu and then take Bath from same bucket in the morning.

Drinking/Cooking Water :
Instead of keeping Water in Plastic bottles inside fridge we may have Sarblohi Water Container (obviously out of fridge smiling smiley ). In olden days Sangat use to fetch water from the well whenever it was needed (for cooking, drinking etc...). They used to have Clay Pots in olden times to store water.

Food Storage Containers :
Instead of storing Rice, Atta, Daals, Pulses, Masalas and other food materials in Plastic/Fibre containers we may use Sarblohi Containers.

Food Cutting Utensils :
Can a Stainless Steel Knife and other type of cutting utensils (food processor, juicer, mixer, grinder etc...) be used or we need to have Sarblohi Cutting Utensils.

Daas has made points from the Indian living perspective many things may not be applicable for Sangat residing abroad. Please share your views and let us know what other Sarblohi Bibeks may be considered/excused.

Wonderful thoughts 'Jaskirat' ji.

Using a Sarblohi bata whilst bathing brings just another magical and an exhilarating experience during Gurmat Ishnaan. I personally know of many Singhs who use a Sarblohi baalti and bata or mugga to do Gurmat ishnaan in Punjab and in the west.

Historically and traditionally, jal has been stored in clay pots since water does not keep in Sarbloh for long. Mittee da ghaRa keeps jal cool and fresh and works wonders in quenching thirst in hot Indian summers. Clay is also widely accepted amongst Sarblohi Singhs for storage purposes.

1. What about thavae, I think normal thavae are iron with wooden handle anyway, I suppose these are ok?
2. What utensils are used for when placing food in an oven (baking)?
3. When making bread are sarbloh loaf tins available? If not can we use tins of other material?
4. Is an ordinary steel knife acceptable for cutting?
5. Sarbloh frying pans?
6. Should utensils for cooking and serving degh be different from those used day to day?

Tumbler (usually called Glass) for drinking lassi grinning smiley
Paraat for kneading Atta (though Baatae also can be used for that purpose)
Sarblohi bottles to store home made Gheo, Achaar, Masalas (not sure if such containers are made).

BTW from where are you planning to procure the mentioned items. Do let us know if you are able to locate the items mentioned in the list. Pls. share the address and contact details (in case mobile or landline numbers have changed for the Sarblohi Bhandey shop owner).

You can store Gheo Achaar Masalas etc in Glass Bhandai, no need to store in Sarbloh. No need to complicate things, keep it simple.
