What is the meaning of this tuk and also where the correct punctuations should be placed?

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ।

Veer ji in Sikh Rehat Maryada the punctuation is as follows,

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ।
Nanak the uplifting intellect (ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ) is through creator's understanding (ਨਾਮ), in your ways (creator) (ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ) let all be well (ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ).

According to your meaning the punctuations should be like below and not the one you mentioned...

ਨਾਨਕ, ਨਾਮ, ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ। ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ, ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ।

Also does ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ, ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ। means "in your ways, let all be well" or "if we follow your ways, all will be well"

Naanak Naam ChaRdiklaa
Teray Bhaaney Sarbat Daa Bhalaa

Oh Naanak, only the the True Naam(the Naam given to Abhelaakhis at the time of Ameit Sanchaar) can bring True Glory(ChaRdiklaa)
With Your Grace may everyone be blessed with your Darshan ( become Gursikhs, receive Naam)


Many do Arth that "Bhlaa" means "doing good" ie giving money to charity, helping out the "needy". But in the light of Gurbani, the True Bhlaa is if someone comes under the Sharan of Satguru Maharaj.

This tukk does not appear in Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee; then how is it that the word "Nanak" has been used in it? Only Guru Sahib has the authority to use this word. If this Tukk is Gurbani, then it should have appeared in Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee and if its not Gurbani then the word "Nanak" should not have been used in it.

In any case, this tukk is now part of the Sikh Ardaas and all Sikhs recite this tukk along with Ardaas, at least twice a day.

The punctuation stays as per Sikh Reht Maryada as follows,

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ, ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ।

In terms of

ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ।

ਤੇਰੇ ---> In your (creator)
ਭਾਣੇ ---> ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਣ, ਰੱਬ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ---> in your consonance; per your view
ਸਰਬੱਤ ----> All
ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ---> wellness of
So with this one can craft a proper sentence with the appropriate grammar.

So I translate it as,

Nanak the uplifting intellect is through creator's understanding, in your ways (creator) all be well.

It is really enlightening. Small lines that we tend to ignore have beautiful meanings: Sarbat da Bhall....Nicely explained

As Veer Kulbir Singh Ji says, NANAK should not have been used here, as AUTHORITY, as it is not Gurbani. But this implies only if we do the meanings as suggested by Veer Ji above. If we consider the meanings as below, may be this point is negated.

Name of Nanak or the NAME told by Nanak------------------------------
