I happened to meet an elderly sikh 10 years back. He had come to Hazur sahib , Nanded for Darshan alongwith his famliy - his wife, son and daughter-in-law.He narrated an incident about his son who was a doctor by profession.
It happened when he was studying in a medical college in Amritsar.He had been a topper in his academics.By nature ,he was a man of few words and a walked on the very path of Gurmat.Even during college days he used to rise at Amritvela
3 a.m. and carried out his nitnem and simran. Unfortunately, the dean of his college was an Arya-Samaji and openly anti-sikh. One day he called our gurmukh in his office and suggested him 'why dont you do away with your kesh? see your classmates , they don't keep kesh, its just too old fashioned' etc etc.
The singh sahib , being a calm person , did not mind his words and ignored him. As it is very common about such confident blockheads,the dean ,however, did not relent. He persisted with his evil advice. Frustrated by Singh sahib's neglect and no response ,soon these advices grew into threats. On the other hand , singh sahib adhered to his amritvela nitnem practice never minding the dean's harsh words.
Finally , infuriated by his own fruitless attempts to foil a gursikh's sikhi , the dean failed this singh student in one of the semesters.His parents - the elderly sikh and his wife- were shocked to hear the results of exam. They could never accpet this unsusal result of the son.
Since the son never shared his dean's troubling him , the parents were unaware about this whole angle of the matter. However,this singh's one friend was aware of the entire episode and he informed them about the matter.
The parents decided to take up the matter in their hands but were prevented by their son from doing so. Much to their astonishment , he asked them to ignore matter and leave everything on Guruji.
'You will never be able to see through your degree if you dont do away with your kesh' - was the regular threat by blockhead.
This was the scenario when one day , by guruji's grace upon the singh sahib , dokhi dean was struck by inexplicable ailment. He was bed ridden and severe pains started in his body. He mustered all possible medical assistance but
no doctor could diagnose and treat this mysterious disease.
The pain soon reformed dean and whimpering , he confessed his sin to his wife. The wife at once rushed to the singh and asked for help.
'What can I , an ordinary fellow ,do ?' , said he humbly , 'Go and do Ardas in darbar sahib everyday if you need help'.
The lady followed his advice and gradually after few days of regular sewa , path and Ardas by her in Harmandir sahib, her husband started showing signs of recovery.
He was completely reformed person now and repented everything about his past .Though he was just able do limited physical movements then, he started accompanying his wife in regular sewa , path and ardaas in Harmandir sahib.
The singh came out with flying colours in his digree as usual and was soon married to a doctor wife.
The family is a happy and satisfied one now.
I was moved by this incident and felt like sharing with sadh sangat ji as it shows that Sachche patshaah is Haajar- Naajar (ever present - ever aware about sikhs).
