The Canadian-born confused Punjabi!

Posted by JaspreetSingh
The Canadian born confused Punjabi
goes to sleep everyday shraabi!
Always worrying about trying to keep his tor nawaabi
wherever he goes, he causes some khraabi!

Sikhi---he knows nothing about!
Walking around with his head stuck in a cloud!
Undin chasing maya like a mouse
pleasures of the world, thats all he cares about!

His hair were cut ever since he was small!
Gurudwara,he went to not!
He was taught the western way was hot!
Soon in the maya web, he got caught!

He always wondered why the local uncle ji wears a pug!
For him, life is all about going to club!
Wearing expensive clothes, to look "fub"!
But stares at himself in the mirror, thinking, every morning when he comes out of the tub

Sikh history, he knows nothing about
Sikhi wise, he never learned to be proud!
Jatt puna, he was taught was his crown!
Shraab di bottle, he was taught was like his grey hound!

It is the Canadian born confused Punjabi!
Who goes to sleep everyday shraabi!
Who always wants a tor nawaabi
wherever he goes, he always does some khraabi!

The question is: will we ever do something about them???

A great poem veerjee. I have been thinking about the same topic for quite some time now. Actually when I started my semester at a new college in NY, where we have a "Sikh" Student Association. At first I thought the Association is a Punjabi Association, rather than a Sikh one. And as I heard from one of the other Singhnees who organized the Association, no one is interested in Guroo Saahib's Baanee rather only to meet up the opposite gender. I also believe that it is not their fault, since they were brought up that way. That is why I wanted to ask. Can we do something about it?

beautifully put jaspreet singh jeeo. There seems to be a lot of these type of punjabi boys these days. Very sad to see. They dont know about sikhi, but worse are those that know about sikhi and are still caught up in maya

Jaspreet singh jeeo -- way way too easy writing poems about confused panjabi--

so what are we so called calibre Gurmukhs doing about it helping our confused punjabi's - -much harder task isn't it??

irony is the manukh panjabi takes the [Amin cut] of the gurmuk and the gurmuk slays of the manmuk panjabi -- and that is all that seems to be
happening creating much disrespect to each other - reason why our kaum is lost at present

Wonderful poem, Jaspreet Singh jeeo. The condition of a Canadian born, confused Punjabi from Sikh background has been presented very eloquently.

Bahut Khoob!

very good poem jaspreet singh ji.

ignore the usual negative remarks of ns44. it looks like he's in habit of only criticizing the rehatvan singhs...

Amazing poem Singh Sahib!

ns44 veer jee, yes you are also right, we do have the 2 sides condemning each other, but there is a great difference. The Rehitvaan Amritdharis rebuke the manmukhs only to wake them up and encourage them to uplift their souls. But if it is done out of haumai then its wrong. However, the manmukhs condemn Singhs only because they try to cover up their own flaws and weaknesses and are not ready to (a) try to be like the Singhs, (b) admit their flaws and weaknesses.

bhul chuk maaf karni jee

NS44 jeeo, if you read the last line of this poem, you will realize that he has written this poem so that we all may do something about the confused Punjabi; so you can't accuse him of doing nothing:

In the light of this, your comments reflecting lack of appreciation for bringing out this topic, are unreasonable. Thoda Khush riha karo, Mitr Pyare jeeo.

This poem also touches some points raised by Veer Sukhdeep Singh.

lol Bhai Kulbir Singh jio, I find this line hilarious:

I just find the term "ਬਿਗੜੇ ਕਾਕੇ" hilarious, but I love this line:

Wouldn't that be wonderful? grinning smiley

ANd Sahib SIngh jio, although your poem is quite hilarious, it also shows the many awkward discrepancies of today's Canadian born Punjabis!

Wow, very well written poem Jaspreet Singh!

Inderpreet Kaur bhenjee, our school's "Sikh Student Association" is in the same state as yours. It's hard to explain to people that being Punjabi is not the same as being Sikh. smiling smiley

Well said Kulbir SIngh Jeeo. When I was living in Canada temporarily, I tried to convince
every youth I came across to come to Amrit Vela for Sadh Sangat-Naam Abyiaas. Sadly to say I could
not convince even one SIngh to come. Perhaps I dont have any kamaee this is why
I couldnt convince them.

SOme of the Singhs are members of this site so I was disappointed even more. I remember one
Singh replied " I dont like the way AKJ do naam simran" I remember when I was living in the Bay
Area I would often try to encourage AKJ SInghs to come for AMrit Vela Naam Abhyiaas and they would
say " I prefer to do GUrmat Naam Abhyiaas". I dont understand if we have an opportunity to congregate with SInghs
and praise WaaheGUru we should STEAL the opportunity regardless of the jatha or method of praising.

haha sukhdeep singh I remember when you tried to get me to come to the amritvela abhiaas. I dont remember what I said, but was I the one that said
" I dont like the way AKJ do naam simran" ?

Challo I try to go as much as I can. Guru Jees kirpa.

Haha no comment. Gagan Singh you are a good Singh, but your attachment
to certain groups may be holding you back. Since you live close to Naam Abhyiaas
programs you should make more efforts to attend Amrit Vela Abhyiaas.
Even when I use to go to Dasmesh Darbar which is DDT affiliated for Naam Abyiaas programs I rarely use to see you.
Singhs in Canada are extremely fortunate to have so many Naam Abhyiaas programs close by. When I stayed there I use to tell my
brother I feel like a kid in disneyland. I would die for such things in California. Hopefully GUru Sahib will allow us to start a
Amrit Vela Naam abhyiaas program one day.

Veer jeeo I 'm not accusing anyone - just presenting my view -- as someone has said above ignore this kookar if you don't like them or just hit the delete on them - i won't bother you again.

Thanks - your poem has put a smile on my face but to bring real Khushee veero could you do some more kirpa by extending your last poem with actuality of the task at hand for singhs to take on the challange of the confused punabi step by step if you can veere . thank you

NS44 jeeo, do Ardaas so that we all may play our role in making a difference in the world and by helping misguided Punjabi kids to understand Sikhi better.

Sukhdeep Singh, Dasmesh Darbar used to be affiliated with the Taksal, however it has been about 3-4 years since it has gone away from taksal influence. i.e short chaupai, rehraas etc.
Reply Quote TweetFacebook
Gagan Singh I still think it has a strong DDT influence. For example, they often
invite DDT SInghs to do seva. When I was there BHai Jarnail SIngh Ji was there.
Also, the Gurdwara Sahib often does JapJi Sahib raul path which is a Taksali Maryada.

I dont think there is such a thing as short Chaupey. The Chaupey we recite in the morning is
titled as Kabyo Bach benti Chaupey and it starts at Hamree Karo Hath tey racha, and end at
Kharag Khet Meh Sharan Tuharee... Giani GUrbachan Singh Ji does not mention Kabyo Bach Benti
starting at Pun Rachhas Ka Kata Seesa and ending at Sagal Duaar Ko Chhad Keh. However, he does mention
Chaupey in Rehras should either be started at Maha Kaal Jo Sharanee Parey or Bahur Asur ka Kata Seesa. Strange
enough modern DDT SInghs do not start CHaupey here instead they start at Pun Rachhas Ka Kata Seesa.
