Waheguru Ji ka khalsa
Waheguru ji ki fateh.
This is NOT maharaja Ranjit Singh. This is actually an afghan by the name of Sher Ali Khan. This picture was taken in 1869 in ambala after an agreement between afgans and british. You can see other of his pictures on the following page and see the person standing behind him in these pictures as well. Maharaja Ranjit Singh died in 1839 at the age of 55 and photography started around 1835 and professional group photography came much later in india.Infact Daguerre took the first ever photo of a person in 1838 when, while taking a daguerreotype of a Paris street, a pedestrian stopped for a shoe shine, long enough to be captured by the long exposure (several minutes). Maharaja had white beared at the time he died and photography was not available at that time. Look at the following link:
