What is the interpretation of Kalki Avtar?

Is Kalki Avtar going to come still or is it Guru Sahib translating other texts?

Kalki avtar of Dasam Granth is not with same chracterstics as that of Hindu Puranas.

Guru sahib has described chaubis avtars ( that includes kalki avtar) as creation of akal purakh.Thus Guru sahib has changed their
dimensions. Kalki avtar of Dasam granth gets pride after his victories.He declares himself as God and ask people to worship
him.

Akal purakh sends another person named Mehdi Meer who defeats kalki avtar and then kills him.

So kalki avtar of Dasam granth is not prediction of any furture as the text of Dasam granth is very clear.
mehndi Meer is a muslim and he is not found in Hindu puranas . So this alteration is by Guru Gobind singh ji

In the last line of kalki avtar is the essence which itself is self explanatory.

ਜਗ ਜੀਤ ਆਪਨ ਕੀਨ ॥ ਸਭ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਅਧੀਨ ॥ ਇਹ ਭਾਂਤ ਪੂਰ ਸੁਧਾਰ ॥ ਭਏ ਚੌਬਿਸੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੫੮੮॥
जग जीत आपन कीन ॥ सभ अंत काल अधीन ॥ इह भांत पूर सुधार ॥ भए चौबिसे अवतार ॥५८८॥
Those who conquered world and made it there possession, they are all under the control of KAL (death) in the end; in this way, with complete improvement the description of twenty-fourth incarnation is completed.588.

ਨਿਹਕਲੰਕ ਬਜੀ ਡੰਕ ਚੜ੍ਹੂ ਦਲ ਰਵਿੰਦ ਜੀਉ।

ਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ!... ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਿਹਕਲੰਕ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਭੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੋਗੇ। ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਹੀ ਡੰਕਾ ਬਜਸੀ (ਬਜੀ ਡੰਕ) ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ਵਿਖੇ। ਸਦਾ ਬਿਜ ਮੁਕਤ ਲਸ਼ਕਰ ਹੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੋ (ਕਲਕੀ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ) ਚੜ੍ਹੇਗਾ (ਚੜੂ), (ਇਹ ਭਵਿਖਤ ਵਾਕ ਹੈ)।


The above passage is from Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee's book – Gurbani diya Laga Maatra dee Vilakhanta. Bhai Sahib has recognized and mentioned that in the future (as was the case in the past), Satguru jee alone will be responsible for the actions and powers behind the Avatars. The future Avtar who is called Nihkalank or Kalki will be created and powered by Satguru jee. This Avtar will not begin a new religion but will be part of Khalsa religion. He will be a Sikh of Guru Sahib and will be fully powered by Guru Sahib. At the time, when it pleases Guru Sahib and at the time when Kaljug will become extremely evil, Nihkalank will appear and restore Dharma.


Bhai Inder Singh jeeo, could you please elaborate on your following statement:

Bhai Kulbir singh ji

Per Hindu Puranas, Kalki avtar will be the last avtar who will appear at the end of kaliyug. These avatars in Hinduism are incarnation of Vishnu and are considered supreme authority.

Guru Sahib has taken base story of chaubis avtars from Puranas but has altered their lives extensively by adding his own writings interspersed here and there. Thus he has adapted puranic text to sikh view considering akal purakh as supreme and these avtars His creation. Additionally he wrote long invocation in the beginning bringing these avtars to almost human level.

Guru sahib writes in invocation

ਜੋ ਚਉਬੀਸ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
जो चउबीस अवतार कहाए ॥
Those who are called twenty-four incarnations;

ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਨਿਕ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥
तिन भी तुम प्रभ तनिक न पाए ॥
O Lord ! they even could not realise thee in a small measure;

ਸਭ ਹੀ ਜਗ ਭਰਮੇ ਭਵ ਰਾਯੰ ॥
सभ ही जग भरमे भव रायं ॥
They became kings of the world and got deluded;

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਕਹਾਯੰ ॥੭॥
ता ते नाम बिअंत कहायं ॥७॥
Therefore they were called by innumerable names.7.

बिसन महेस्वर कउन बिचारे ॥
Who are the helpless gods Vishnu and Shiva?

ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
चंद सूर जिनि करे बिचारा ॥
The sun and moon also meditate on Thee;

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਜਨੀਯਤ ਹੈ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥੧੪॥
ता ते जनीयत है करतारा ॥१४॥
Therefore Thou art known as the Creator.14.

Now coming to Kalki avtar as described in Dasam Granth sahib, it is observed from the text kalki avtar of Dasam Granth is different than that of Puranas. Guru ji writes that there was gross injustice and chaos in society. Then kalki avtar appears restores order. When he conquers all, he gets pride and asks people to adore him as God

ਜਗ ਜੀਤਿਓ ਜਬ ਸਰਬ ॥ ਤਬ ਬਾਢਿਓ ਅਤਿ ਗਰਬ ॥ ਦਿਯ ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਸਾਰ ॥ ਇਹ ਭਾਂਤ ਕੀਨ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥੫੮੩॥
जग जीतिओ जब सरब ॥ तब बाढिओ अति गरब ॥ दिय काल पुरख बिसार ॥ इह भांत कीन बिचार ॥५८३॥
When he conquered the whole world, his pride was extremely increased; he also forgot the unmanifested Brahmin and said this;583.

ਬਿਨ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਸ੍ਰ ਨ ਔਰ ॥ ਅਸ ਮਾਨਿਯੋ ਸਭ ਠਉਰ ॥ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤ ਕੀਨ ਗੁਲਾਮ ॥ ਆਪਨ ਜਪਾਯੋ ਨਾਮ ॥੫੮੪॥
बिन मोहि दूस्र न और ॥ अस मानियो सभ ठउर ॥ जगु जीत कीन गुलाम ॥ आपन जपायो नाम ॥५८४॥
There is no second except me and the same is accepted at all the place; I have conquered the whole world and made it my slave and have caused everyone to repeat my name.584.


ਜਗ ਐਸ ਰੀਤ ਚਲਾਇ ॥ ਸਿਰ ਅਤ੍ਰ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰਾਇ ॥ ਸਭ ਲੋਗ ਆਪਨ ਮਾਨ ॥ ਤਰ ਆਂਖ ਅਉਰ ਨ ਆਨ ॥੫੮੫॥
जग ऐस रीत चलाइ ॥ सिर अत्र पत्र फिराइ ॥ सभ लोग आपन मान ॥ तर आंख अउर न आन ॥५८५॥
I have given life again to the traditional and have swung the canopy over my head; all the people consider me as their own and none other comes to their sight.585.

ਨਹਿ ਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਜਪੰਤ ॥ ਨਹਿ ਦੇਵ ਜਾਪ ਭਣੰਤ ॥
No one repeats the name of the Lord-God or the name of any other God goddess

Seeing this behaviour of kalki avtar , Akal purakh sends another person named Mehndi meer to show kalki avtar his place.

ਤਬ ਕਾਲ ਦੇਵ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥ ਇਕ ਅਉਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੫੮੬॥
seeing this the Unamanifested Brahma created another purusha.586.

ਰੱਚਿ ਅਸ ਮਹਿਦੀ ਮੀਰ ॥ ਰਿਸਵੰਤ ਹਾਠ ਹਮੀਰ ॥ ਤਿਹ ਤਉਨ ਕੋ ਬਧੁ ਕੀਨ ॥ ਪੁਨ ਆਪ ਮੋ ਕਿਯ ਲੀਨ ॥੫੮੭॥
्रचि अस महिदी मीर ॥ रिसवंत हाठ हमीर ॥ तिह तउन को बधु कीन ॥ पुन आप मो किय लीन ॥५८७॥
Mehdi Mir was created, who was very angry and persistent one; he killed the Kalki incarnation within himself again.587.

ਜਗ ਜੀਤ ਆਪਨ ਕੀਨ ॥ ਸਭ ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲ ਅਧੀਨ ॥ ਇਹ ਭਾਂਤ ਪੂਰ ਸੁਧਾਰ ॥ ਭਏ ਚੌਬਿਸੇ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥੫੮੮॥

Note: Please watch the last line where Guru sahib writes he has done improvement of descrition of twenty fourth incarnation.

Mehndi meer also gets ego and declares himself God, Akal purakh devises way to kill him also.

ਤਬ ਜਾਨ ਕਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨ ॥ ਇਕ ਕੀਟ ਦੀਨ ਉਪਾਇ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕਾਨ ਪੈਠੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
तब जान काल प्रबीन ॥ तिह मारिओ करि दीन ॥ इक कीट दीन उपाइ ॥ तिस कान पैठो जाइ ॥१०॥
Reflecting over the egoistic state of Mir Mehdi the Unmanifested Brahman thought of killing him; he created an insect, which entered the ear of Mir Mehdi.10.

ਧਸਿ ਕੀਟ ਕਾਨਨ ਬੀਚ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਜੀਤਯੋ ਜਿਮ ਨੀਚ ॥ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਦੁਖ ਤਾਹਿ ॥ ਇਹ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਮਾਰਿਓ ਵਾਹਿ ॥੧੧॥
धसि कीट कानन बीच ॥ तिस जीतयो जिम नीच ॥ बहु भांत दे दुख ताहि ॥ इह भांति मारिओ वाहि ॥११॥
Entering his ear, that insect conquered that base fellow, and giving him various types of suffering, killed him in this way.11.

ਇਤਿ ਮਹਿਦੀ ਮੀਰ ਬਧਹ ॥
इति महिदी मीर बधह ॥
End of killing of Mehdi Mir.

So guru sahib says that akal purakh is supreme and these avtars elevated them as God and failed in their mission. Hence they met their end badly.

Bhai Sahib

Whilst reading the arths and listening to Katha I learned that Kalki Avtaar gets hankari for destroying all the bad in the world, and considers himself to be very powerful and invincible. Then Akaal Purakh sends down Mehndi and he kills Kalki.


(Also I think Mehndi gets hunkari and akal purakh sends down down another avtaar not to sure about this part though)

Wow! This is a very interesting quote that BHai Kulbir Singh Ji has quoted from Bhai Sahib.
I had no idea that Sri Dasam Granth contained prophetic messages to this extent.

THe part which mentions this is a prophetic message is in parenthesis. I noticed many books
of BHai Sahib parenthsis seems added in newer editions and are meant to further explain a uncommon
word or difficult sentence. Also is it possible that Bhai Sahib is saying that this sentence in in future tense
in the story, but not in actual life?


Could you please provide the rest of the paragraph of this sentence?

I think BHai Sahibs statement is being misunderstood.

Sikhi/Gurmat is not a prophetic text. Unlike the Abrahamic faiths, prophetic sayings have
no role in Gurmat. Gurbani is the roop of Naam. Naam, Bhana, and Hukum are one and the same thing.
There is no- pre-determinism in Sikhi. Meaning hukums in Sikhi are not based on Pre-determenism; instead, Hukum is Naam and are directions from Guru Sahib.

In Asa Di Vaar , we recite ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਪਿਠਿ ਦੇਇ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
In these verses Guru Sahib is referring to past characters from a past story using past tense.
A few line ahead Guru Sahib concludes in future tense and states

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੦॥

meaning who ever serves Guru Sahib will get liberated.

I think this is also the case in Kalki Avtaar. Guru Sahib is using past tense and future tense along these lines. Because Gurbani is naam roop, and there is no prophetic messages in Naam as naam, since is without past or future and is beyond time. Stories are used in Gurbani to highlight an underlying principle/hukum.

"Sri Dasam, Guru Granth" is roop of Naam it includes hukums for Khalsa how to conduct ones life . These hukums are in bir ras proverbs and enigmas. At the end of Bhai Nand Lal Jis rehatnama we read "Raj Karega Khalsa". This is not a prophecy instead Guru Sahib is saying Khalsa will only get Raj by following the code of conduct explained in the rehatnamey. Same with Uggardanti there is no prophetic sayings in this text as well. Guru Sahib is giving directions (hukums) on what Khalsa needs to do such as keeping a distinct identity from the other two faiths ( Hinduism , ISlam) to get Raj.

Has Bhai Sahib written if Kalki will succumb to ego and fail on his mission? If not, and he does get Amrit dee dath, doesn't that mean that Vishnu will finally receive Mukhti! Seems like such a long wait. Also, we must inform the Buddhists that Buddha will be born again as a Gursikh, will really boggle their minds.

Most of these theories differ - interpetation will differ there is no doubt about that.

Kalyug is extremely evil we don't have to look too far for that do we?

Focus for Sikhs is as Guru mahraj is has qutoed and we quote everyday " Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee"

And I don't mean to be narrow that we shouldn't read and learn from other texts..just reiteratin the gift of focus...

Hindus believe Kalki will be the final incarnation of Vishnu in Kaljug. He will come and restore order, and his coming will mark the coming of SatJug. This thinking is not in accordance to Gurmat, and I highly doubt Bhai Sahib believe in this fairy tale.

In his book "Gurbani diya Laga Maatra dee Vilakhanta" the reference of Kalki seems more of an explanation of Grammar, in which Bhai Sahib is stating the pangti is referring to future sense not past tense. Meaning in the mentioning of Kalki in Dasmi Paatshahs granth the pangti is talking about how Kalki will come through Guru-Akaals power in Kaljug but due to Kalkis ego he will be destroyed Guru-Akal as mentioned in Gurbani.

Kalki has already came like previous avtaars who come through GuruAkals blessings, but these avtaars got caught up in ego and were destroyed.

ਸਭ ਅਪਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਉਰਝਾਨਾ ॥ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾਹੂ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥

All previous prophets were entangled in self-praise and did not comprehend the Supreme Brahman.

Bhai Sahib was a firm believer that Guru Sahib was the True Avtaar as previous avtaars were caught in self-praise. After
avtaar of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji how can there be any more avtaars. There will be more avtaars as SatGUru Nanak Dev Ji is the avtaar of this jug and for all eternity. He also believed previous avtaars were sent by Akal Purakh to destroy those the oppressive tyrants who displayed ego.

In the above article Bhai Sahib mentions how WaaheGuru has been given avtaas power
to destroy the oppressors. Its only though WaaheGurus power they could achieve anything.
NarSingh was not Nirankar or avtaar of Vishnu as hindus believe instead he was just an avtar.
Same with Vishnu was just an avtaar. Their can be no prophecy that Kalki will come and destroy Tyrants
in Kaljug. Kalki too was an avtar who received power from WaaheGuru, but he got caught in ego and was
destroyed. Guru Nanak Sahib Ji was the only avtaar who had no Ego, and he will destroy the tyrant through
the Khalsa panth. The prophecy of Kalki coming was fabricated by Hindus whom were bent on distorting
teachings of Gurmat. Kalki has already come and been destroyed why would he need to come again to
destroy the tyrant. This is Khalsas duty. Sikhi/Gurbani is distinct from semitic faiths since as it does not dwell on apocalyptic doctrine. Think about since it was Akal Purakh who gave these previous avtaars his power why would give
a future avtaar power. All his power has been invested in Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Raj karega Khalsa is in future tense, it isn't a prophecy, it is an inevitability, that Khalsa will rule. This tamasha is going to turn full circle.

I was reading Professor Pyara Singhs article on Sri Bachitar Natak last night, and he has mentioned that Sri Bachitar Natak is a poetic composition which partly rewrites Hindu Mythology and Islamic fables as in the case of Kalki and Mehdi avtar. For example, in the Puranas there is mention of Kalki avtaar coming to this world to remove all evil. In the Hadith and other Islamic texts there is mention of Iman Mehdi coming to this world towards the end of " Judgement day", and with the help of Isa( Jesus) he will remove all evil.

Professor Sahib mentions the gist of Sri Bachitar Natak is that Waaheguru empowered the avtars but they got caught up in ego and thus they met death. Kalki got an ego and was killed by Iman Mehdi. Iman Medi got arrogant of " his" power and was removed by an ant. Sri Sukhmani Sahib mentions how Waaheguru can even empower an ant to remove a whole army.

Yeah its amazing bani! Sri Guru Ji uses the heroes of famous sects ( Jains, Buddhist, Sanyasi, Jogis , Muslims) in one compisition to illustrate the importance of Naam. These avtars/heroes where assicated with the predominant sects living in India and these sects were fighting over trivial matters instead of merging in the colors of Naam.
