Sadhsangat jeeo,

The oldest Barahmaha available is Barahmaha Tukhari, written by Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee and the meanings of this Baani are very deep. This Baani contains extreme emotions of separation from Vaheguru. Barahmaha Maanjh is authored by Siri Guru Arjun Dev jee and as compared to Barahmaha Tukhari, it is considered to be easier to understand.
Barahmaha Maanjh is part of Nitnem of many Gursikhs because it is such a sweet Baani. The first Pauri of this Baani is all Benti-roop and Gursikhs use it (by singing, uttering) to get Kirpa from Vaheguru. The last Pauri contains summary of rewards one gets if one engages in chanting Gurmat Naam. Between the 1st and last Pauri there are 12 Pauris, each Pauri explaining the Gurmat Updesh, one should derive from each month of the year. The months are as follows:
Chet
Vaisaakh
Jeth
AahaR (Haar)
Saavan
Bhadon
Assun (Assoo)
Katak (Kattoo)
Manghar
Poh
Maagh
Falgun (Faggan).
It is a great idea to include this Baani in your Nitnem. Once it is Kanth (memorized), it takes about 3 or 4 minutes to do. This Baani creates love and sense of separation from Vaheguru and for this reason, it is very beneficial to Naam Abhyaas.
Please do point out any mistakes or omissions in the Santhiya.
Gurbani is Agam Agaadh Bodh.
Daas,
Kulbir Singh
