Waiting

There is a woman who stays in waiting
for her lover to come home
standing by the edge of the frothing sea
the salted water of the ocean splashes
and drenches her

her family calls out to her, the skies roar at her
she cannot hear
the waters tumble and collide at her feet,
threatening to engulf her
but she cannot feel
all that she knows
is the emptiness she sees before her
of an ocean that has not delivered back her lover

and so she waits
as still and silent and resolute as a statue
and waits
until her skin has become wrinkled
and waits
until her hair has become thin and grey as her aching soul
and waits
every day for colour

she is dying now
her family begs her to come home so that she can be well
but she knows nothing can cure the malady of her heart
life passes
ages pass
she lies now at the water's edge
the ocean begins to take her
it crawls over her
she cannot tear her eyes from the emptiness
still waiting
and so the ocean fills her eyes
sweeping slowly, back and forth
over her
almost engulfing her now

the grey clouds have begun to depart
something new has come
light
falls gently like a blanket onto her
she feels colour
the ocean is blue
green
glistening
it is binding her
she cannot breathe
her salted tears
the salty sea
her heart
her lungs
her soul
her god
she has found her lover
she has come home

Good poem SK jeeo. At first I thought it was going to end as a tragedy but I am glad that it had a happy ending. I don't like tragedies.

I don't like tragedies either - that is why I am always uplifted at the end of ardaas, by "raaj karaegaa khaalsaa aakee rahae naa ko-ae
khoaar ho-ae sabh milaingae bachay sharan jo ho-ae"
