pronounciation of 'ngangaa' and 'njanja'

Posted by harinder_singh
I am trouble in learning the pronounciation of these 2 alphabets. They are used very seldom in punjabi language these days. I need to know the position of tongue and lips when pronouncing these 2 alphabets.

Thanks

I don't think the sounds of these alphabets can be learned from a book or Internet. It is important to meet your teacher in person to learn the sound. I would suggest you contact your local Gurdwara Sahib to learn the sound of these alphabets.

NGANGA: Spiritual wisdom is not obtained by mere words of mouth.

They alone are spiritually wise, whose minds are firmly fixed on the Lord.

no one is emancipated by counting and calculating.

The letter replaces, more or less, sound of GAGGA but nasal, I think.

ਞੰਞਾ ਞਾਣਹੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਸਹੀ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਤ ਏਹ ਹੇਤ ॥
njannjaa njaanahu dhrirr sehee binas jaath eaeh haeth ||
NYANYA: Know this as absolutely correct, that that this ordinary love shall come to an end.

njathan karahu thum anik bidhh rehan n paavahu meeth ||
You can try all sorts of things, but you still cannot remain here, my friend.

The Lord is the Truest of the True, O my father. Meeting with the humble servants of the Lord, the marriage procession looks beautiful.

This letter replaces, more or less, sound of JAJJA but nasal.

Veer Kulbir Singh Ji, correct please.

harinder_singh Ji, I think you need to lean Maharni to read Gurbani Shud.

As for ਙ I think you should be able to pronounce it by touching the back of the tongue to the top palate twice. I'm trying to teach my 3 year old son these very letter that for some reason in Punjabi Kadey are referred to a khali (empty). He is still saying Nanga grinning smiley, but I'm working on it.
