... In mere teen was the boy, With hands tied thrown as a toy Into the lap of Banda and without a word He drew him close to his heart. For a while he put his hand on his head, Just once kissed his turban red. He then draws his dagger, Whispers in the child's ear - "Glory be to Guruji - fear not my son" A virile in the boy's face did burn - In his juvenile voice the court did ring "Glorby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Guru Roop Panj Piyare knows exactly the Avastha of Amrit Ablaakhee. In olden times if Ablaakhi is not able to do full Nitnem for some reason then they were exempted with certain conditions. Guru dee Khed Guru Sahib hee Janan but we mortals are given the strict Hukam to do Nitnem, so we should obey this Hukam at fullest and not to skip at any cost.by JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Haanji, it's good to have understanding of these units.by JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Bhai Sahib Jio, If Desi units are not in common practice now that doesn't mean we lost the meaning of Gurbaani. The meaning remains still intact, doesn't matter you translate to a moment or Pal. Amount of longing is not what Gurmat counts for but amount of love (Bhao), even for those short moments or Pals. Yes for literal translations, definitions of Desi units are needed which are availablby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum

QuoteSo are you saying we should revert to Desi Units? I think then we should also revert to Bikrami Calendar.... Lets do it together smiling smiley Preetam Singh Na Jee Na. QuoteSo are we saying that the first pehar start from 6am - 9am ? Yes, this can be considered as the first Pehar of the daylight but if you are looking for first Pehar of new date then it starts from 12 to 3am.by JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum

QuoteThe break down of one Peher is this: The time it takes to blink an eye is called one Nimakh 15 Nimakhs = 1 Visaa 15 Visaas = 1 Chasaa 30 Chasaas = 1 Pal 60 Pals = 1 Ghari 7.5 Gharis = 1 Peher 8 Pehers = One day So as Bhai Jasjit Singh Jee mentioned, one Peher is 3 hours. Nimana Jio, Thanks for this breakdown. I am wondering how easily Panth gave-up on these time measuremenby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
QuoteI beg to differ from Bhai Sahib Jasjit Singh Ji about when the first pehar starts. Before the advent of the modern 24 hour clock, sunrise was considered to be the start of the day, i.e., 6 AM (theoretically). Actual time varies with season. Therefore, 6 AM - 9 AM is considered as First Pehar. That is why Amritvela is referred to as 'Pichhal Raat' by Baba Farid Jee. Mohkam Singh Jio, yby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
8 Pehar mentioned in Gurbani means full day and night. 24 hours according to modern clocks we use today. 24/8 means each Pehar is of 3 hours. Because in modern clocks, date changes at midnight (12:00 am) which means first Pehar should be of 12 to 3 for any given date.by JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Quote"Bhai Jasjit Singh Jio My view on this is, when there is an issue that is causing disunity and problems among Singhs then it is best to resolve the issue by asking ourselves \"what did Guru Jee do\". This is the question a Sikh should always anchor towards when there is dubida in his mind on a subject. Now Both Bikrami and Nanakshahi supporters agree that our Gurus used Bikrami calendaby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum

QuoteJasjit Singh Jio, the point I was making is, neither is land of Punjab or Punjabi language a creation of Guru Sahib. But we still love Punjab and Punjabi language do we not? we love it because Punjab is the land of our Gurus and Punjabi language is the language they spoke in. Similarly Bikrami calendar was not created by Guru Sahib but it was extensively used Guru Jee and they even blessed iby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
QuoteThere are some things which were not created by Guru Jee but being touched by Guru Jee, it became a part of Sikh tradition. Now land of Punjab was in existance much before our Gurus became physically Pargat in this world, but because this land is the land of our Gurus, Shaheeds and itihaasik Gur Asthaans, land of Punjab has sentimental value for the Sikh people, no other land in the world caby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
QuoteConformism is not the answer for anything. Inder singh Jio, It's not conformism as you think. It's just bringing event dates in order of solar dates. Nimana Jio, No one denies the looseness coming in Panth due to Printing and Padched of Gurbani but those Gurmat asools has nothing to do with Calender. Time mesurement system such as Bikrami calendar was not creation of Guru Sahib that we should be so sensitive about. In Guru Sahib's physical era Bikrami calendar was prevenlant so does the Desi weight mesuring units which are no longer in commby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
"Having lunar calculation the Sikhs had started believing in tithis, which is against the Sikhs way of life (Gurmat). We should delink Gurus from lunar calendar". - Prof. Sahib Singh Jeeby JASJIT SINGH - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Wait a second! How come this issue is turning into Bhai Sahib vs. Purewal. Couldn't believe how one can even think of this comparison. DID BHAI SAHIB MENTIONED ANYWHERE TO OBSERVE GURPURABS ONLY ON BIKRAMI CALENDER? OR IT"S MANMAT TO COMMEMORATE WITH OTHER CALENDAR DATES? Bhai Sahib followed that calendar which Panth was following.
