I am preparing for a presentation on history of Sikhism for youngsters and want to first explain why history is important. Are there any quotes from Bhai Gurdas Ji or any other Gursikh of puratan times which explain about importance of learning from history. Any quotes from North American scholors will be useful as well.by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
In some of the shabads it is fairly easy to understand the context of word Ram but in other shabads it gets little challanging. Is there an easy distinction we can make?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Anyone able to secure the copy of this book? Why not any Sikh TV channel takes an interview with Gen. K.S. Brar?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Apologies for the mistake then and thanks for clarification, I thought I have head talwara ji mentioning that the bishraam should be after parivaar. What is the meaning of this line?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Since we are on topic of Sri Anand Sahib, I thought I can ask my question here as well The vishraam in the line "Raag Ratan Parivaar, parian shabad gaavan aaian", should be after Parivaar as I placed or Parian as it is commonly read?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
As akaal purakh is shasterdhari and so are Sikhs supposed to be but someone asked me a question that whether Sikhs were shasterdhari before Guru Har Gobind ji, I didn't know much so thought of asking if someone has read in any historic granths? I know they were given charnaamrit and naam but have never heard about ask for shasters.by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Sangat ji, any thoughts?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
What does Guru Nanak dev sahib ji mean here? I believe that Guru Nanak Dev ji didn't have a physical Guru as he was God himself (aap nirankaar). Other Guru Sahibaan and bhagats do mention satguru or about getting Gurus kirpa where they refer to Guru Nanak Dev ji or other Guru Sahibaans before them. So which Satguru Guru Nanak Dev ji is mentioning here in this tuk?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Should the below shabad be read or the next one or the full 4 shabads? ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈby kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
From what I have heard from other gursikhs that the name of hazooria came from hazoor. It is what a servant would carry in front of his hazoor and when we go to guru sahib darshan, we go as a servant and thus carry a hazooria. Hence carrying a hazooria is the show of humbleness and nimaanapan even though today people carry hazooria of all kind of fashion material and art work which is not the purby kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Do all living beings make karams in their lifetime or only human form does that and other lives are to repay the karams until you get the precious human life again to get rid of this process and merge with GOD?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਉ ਕਰਾਵਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪੇਖਤ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ Does it mean "O God! Please keep making me do the effort of seeing and partaking in holy sangat" or "I shall do my efforts but O God, you do everything so please bless me to see and partake in holy sangat"by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Thanks veerjio, does that specify any particular significance except the nodes it could be sung on? Also do you think singing it using different nodes (i.e. in different raag as mentioned) is similar to defying Guruji's hukam?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
What is the meaning of name of the raag? E.g. ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ Some Raagis claim that not singing a shabad in particular ਰਾਗੁ as noted down by Guru Sahib Himself is same as not following the basic Hukam and some even say it is like distorting Gurbani. So I got interested in learning more about what ਰਾਗੁ means?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Thanks for translating the article jee. Sukhdeep Singh ji, where in Akal Takht Maryaada it is mentioned that Nigurey or patit can't do kirtan seva? It only mentions Sikh and people translate Sikh into many termsby kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
If I make an assumption that whereever ਸਬਦੁ is used with an aunkarh, it would always mean one shabad i.e. Gurmat Naam, is my assumption correct or can there be other places/reasons for word ਸਬਦੁ to come with aunkar?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I can't access ikatha.com, is there something wrong with the links? Can someone send me the working links of talks on 5 Khands, Maaya etc.by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Thank you bhai sahib. Got an example where karam with aunkar would mean one deed... ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
VaheguroooojeekaakhalsaaaaVaheguroooojeekeefateh!!!! The common understanding of meaning of Karam is deeds. However as the word ending with aunkar would mean Singular form, is my understanding right that the word karam with aunkarh in Sri Guru Granth Sahib doesn't mean Deeds but mean Blessing? Can this be a generic understanding?by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum
According to your meaning the punctuations should be like below and not the one you mentioned... means "in your ways, let all be well" or "if we follow your ways, all will be well"by kirpakaro - Gurmat Discussion Forum

VaheguroooojeekaaKhalsaaaaVaheguroooojeekeeFatehhhh!!!! I am not very good with history but from what I have read, Bandi Chod divas was made up to fall on Diwali as an excuse for Sikhs to celebrate the Hindu festival. According to Bhat Vahis (I know not everything there could be trusted), the day of Guru Hargobind Sahib ji release was either late Sept or early February but not Diwali.
