I have been looking over old messages on this forum discussing halants. It appeared as though at the time there was no final consensus on how they affect pronounciation. I was wondering if anyone had anything new to offer on the subject?by Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
VahegurooJiKaKhalsaVahegurooJiKiFateh! Lately I have been reading up about what various Indian traditional indian philosophies believe about liberation. There is a great debate over the nature of liberation, mainly in the sense of merger (impersonal) vs. union through bhagti leading to a state of being in constant service (personal). Both views seem to be prevalent within Gursikhs. However theby Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
It is unfortunate that most peoples' understanding of 'religion' has been coloured by the simplistic Abrahamic climate that we live in. We have been thought to think of a God living up in the sky, who we either anger or make happy and as a resulted we are rewarded or punished. It is this mindset which gives birth to such a form of questioning. I will digress a moment to set the right context.by Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
In my humble opinion, Guroo Sahib made no such calendar therefore there it is impossible that there is any need for it, There is nothing that the Panth needs that Guroo Sahib did not establish for us. As soon as we start trying to be clever and following our own matt, even if its with the best intentions, we will find only failure and such efforts will not bear any useful fruits. This is evidentby Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
VahegurooJiKaKhalsaVahegurooJiKIFateh Jeeo! Can Gursikhs please provide references from Gurbani which teach us the mahatam of following rehat as instructed by Guroo Sahib? I do not mean references to specific rehats but to the concept of rehat itself, i.e Guroo da updesh in regards to blessed actions and how we should live our life. Gurfateh jeeo. One's net income is decided after taxes have been deducted. However, for some a voluntary pension which you CHOOSE to pay into is also deducted every month before getting the net income. Should you add that pension deduction back into your salary before calculating dasvandh, or do you calculate dasvandh after voluntary pension has been deducted? Please advise.by Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I remember once Giani Kulwinder Singh Ji answering a similar question about atrocities against Sikhs, and Giani ji reminding that it is Sikhs who are front line army, we have volunteered to take the blows! What I understood from this is that by virtue of remaining as Sikhs/choosing to be Sikhs, we have already indicated our willingness to be the very first to bear atrocities.by Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

One thing I would like to add, its sort of both a comment and a question lol... There are particular people and events mentioned within Sri Gurbani, for instance, prahald and harnakhash. Since Gurbani is attall (eternal), this must mean that all of these events must take place and people must be there in that particular cycle of creation. For example, just say that when maha parlao happensby Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

We all know that words like, 'Har', 'Raam', etc. in Gurbani are used for Vaheguru and not devte (unless the bani is specifically talking about them of course). This has also been clarified by Bhagat Kabeer Ji,

Vaisakhi is certainly a joyous time, every Gursikh and every Premi of Dasam Patshah is filled with love and happiness when thinking of what this day means. Many celebrations take place on this day... but whenever I see these things, I am always reminded of a beautiful Gurmukh Sikh of Guru Sahib I once read about. This incident actually took place on Bandi Chor Divas (Divali), yet it can apply toby Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

I first came across this poem by a Sufi writer, Naaz Khialvi, some time back and found it an amazing read. I was wondering if some of the learned Gursikh veers could provide some thoughts on this, through the lens of Gurmat? There are some parts of this that are clearly not in line with Gurmat, but I would say thats more the writer's emotions. Yes, it is not from a Gursikh, but reading this,by Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Bhai Sahib Kulbir Singh Ji and others who may know, could you please share your comments on my earlier question: Quote Bhai Kulbir Singh - "Some old Birs contain the full Shabad but in the authentic acceptable Birs today, there is only one Pankiti and we should accept that only." Personally I think maya is more of a concept rather than an actual being, a state of mind. Lets be careful not to create a satan-esque sikhi equivalent out of Maya and Kalyug. In my view maya is whenever our mind is operating under the trai gun mentioned in bani - rajo, sato, tamo, these are all manmat states of mind. While we are under any of these states then everything but Vaheguroo himself iby Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Neem daatun online! I hope they ship to the UKby Uttam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Well it looks like the miswak daatun is more easily available as its quite popular with the Muslim community. I saw some sites selling Miswak but they seem to have added flavour to them which I don't think would be acceptable. I have found this site which sells them online and it looks like nothing has been done to them which I think would make them ok to use. What do you all think?
