Jasjit singh ji has answered correctly. Guru sahibans were going to pilgrimage centers of people who thought that mere visit to such centers for ritual bath will deliver salvation. Guru Nanak dev ji visited Puri, Hardwar etc. to tell people that only rituals without nam simran is not going to help. There were two beers of Dasam Granth sahib compiled during Guru Sahib's time in around 1698.
