There's a lot that could be written about Bhai Kulbir Singh but I will try to focus just on one week in 2009 that we got to spend together. It was their last visit to BC. My Sikhi was in a bit of a rut at the time. I needed a push and I was excited to get to have the Sangat of someone like them for a few days, having a feeling inside that this week would end up really helping me. He was ableby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I agree about Vaday Sahibzade being on the list. It's hard to rank these issues but the Shaheedi of Baba Jujhar Singh is absolutely mindblowing. He was the Sahibzada that could have most easily escaped his Shaheedi if he had wanted to. The younger Sahibzade couldn't have escaped their Shaheedi in the sense that they would have never given up their Sikhi. Baba Ajit Singh was a relatively seasonedby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

The earlier poster suggested a 50/50 split which seemed to imply that the higher avastha spouse would lose something. What you wrote now seems more in line with what I've heard in the past and I have no disagreement with it. Regarding the equality issue, I wasn't advocating anything close to modern feminism. All I was saying was, bibiaan predominantly get the sevaa of serving their spouse anby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Where did this idea come from that kamaaee is split 50/50 in dargah even if there are differences in the spirituality of each spouse? Is there anything to back this up? So a highly spiritual bibi loses lots of her kamaaee, possibly even up to half if she's married to a lousy Singh? Doesn't seem like a fair system. What if there's a Singh who does lots of kamaaee and he's married to a bibi whoby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
If someone is trying to use jatha to promote their financial interests and if there's evidence to back that up, it's fine to stop giving them time until they stop doing that. The issue is that there are some raagis or granthis or keertan teachers of MODEST means who are not using the Jatha to make money. They're not superstar global keertanees and the resolution seems too far-reaching in coveriby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Some of these items sound like solutions in search of problems that don't exist. The problem in Jatha has been people with character issues doing keertan (bujjer kurahitis, etc.). Not people who are raagis. It seems like there's been pressure to bring quality back to Jatha but the solutions are off the mark. Half of the major Jatha keertanees would be disqualified based on these criteria inby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

I think these options are technically already available to us. If all of us committed suicide in such a way that preserved our hearts, our hearts could be candidates for heart transplants which would save someone else's life. We would save someone else's life but that doesn't mean the decision to commit suicide would be correct. This sounds far-fetched but it's possible to do it if we were intby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
The Canucks are a religion in Vancouver. Obviously most Punjabis don't know much about Sikhi and so their behavior can't be surprising but the way even Amrit Dhari youth in BC act with regards to the Canucks is really shameful and undignified. Doing paath for their victory, ardaases commonly being done throughout Gurdwarai and now Akhand paaths... The 1984 rally last week had less than haby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Bhai, Please aim to be a little bit more sophisticated and inquisitive instead of judging issues based solely on whether there's a "taksali" position or not. Broaden your horizons.by Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
I never really knew Bibi Rena Kaur that well but let me recount some of my experiences with her: In April of 2004, around a month before her passing, I had a conversation with her (I think for the first and only time) and it did not go well! It was at the annual Vasaakhi Nagar Keertan and we had a debate about a topic and it was clear we had different opinions. I overheard her talking to herby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Are there any stories of Bhai Sahib with regards to Gatka, physical fitness, etc? I'd imagine Bhai Sahib was incredibly fit especially pre-jail (torture in jail would have seriously affected his ability to exercise).by Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

There's been times in the past when even members of this forum have advocated the use of lying... For example, one time a few years ago, Bhai Kulbir Singh wrote: QuoteI request all of you to never let my wife know that I wrote all this. She will kill me, if she finds out. But don’t worry, even if you tell her, I will flatly decline it was me who wrote this. I will just tell her that someoby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Several years ago, I remember entering a public transit train with a friend. I was thinking of just entering the train without paying a ticket. I think I had gotten a ticket earlier and it had just expired and so I thought even if we got caught it wouldn't be a big deal. My friend stopped me and said we absolutely had to buy tickets. I agree with people who are opposed to mindless groupism but I also think reviving the logo used by Bhai Sahib might serve as a connection/link between today's youth and the old time Jathaa. Most AKJ youth nowadays don't know much about Bhai Sahib and other Gursikhs from that time. They're more interested in the celebrity culture surrounding keertanees.by Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum

Science and other fields are not the finished article. Doubt therefore leads to progress. Guru Sahib is the finished article with no room for progress. Guru Sahib is also independent from our doubt - none of our efforts could possibly impact Guru Sahib. We should all doubt ourselves by constantly looking at our faults (being introspective/humble) because none of us are the finished articlby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Keertan of Bhai Sahib Bhai Jeevan Singh of Suchaji. Really beautiful.by Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
In most smagams, the most common question asked is "when is X (keertanee Singh) getting into town?". Rarely would such a question be asked about a non-prominent keertanee. It was commonly asked about Mata Harkirin Kaur Jee and Khalsa Jee. Like others have said, there will be an irreplaceable void in future smagams (at least here in Vancouver where Mata Jee attended at least once a year). Whenby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
Last night, on short notice, there was a keertan in Surrey, BC for Bhai Sahib. Lots of sangat came from all over the Vancouver area. Bhai Jaswant Singh 'Khalsa Jee' did beautiful keertan in the joyous spirit of the occassion. All of the elder Singhs in BC were present at the keertan along with several youth as well - all of whom were aware of the loss that the panth had just suffered. There are a lot of amazing Gursikhs presently in this world but it seems that we don't have almost-unquestionable brahmgianis in our midst. Perhaps dozens of the Singhs back in Bhai Sahib's time were at that level although of course none were like Bhai Sahib himself. So many of us long for the day of being able to do sangat with another Singh who is of Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh's calibreby Japnaam Singh - Gurmat Discussion Forum
