why did you leave?

why did you leave?

where have you gone?
why did you leave?
the face, once wet
with tears of bliss
now wet with tears of pain
the body becomes cold
life seems so frightening
sleep is enticing
the heart burns in yearning
locked deep inside
not tasting your bliss
the distance is murder
how to meet you again?
words of love leave the lips
never finding the heart
the name has become recitation
a parrot in a gilded cage
longing for the sight of master
begging for you
to open this door
so wings may stretch one final time
overwhelmed, the need to fly
to find life
to find bliss
to find you
where have you gone?
why did you leave?

(sorry, i can't rhyme. sad smiley )

May Guru Sahib accept this Bairaag of yours, Bhain jee.

This reminds me of a famous poem of the 6th river of Punjab Bhai Sahib Vir Singh jee - "Kambadi Kalai" . I just remember two lines from this poem:

sometimes, when i read nitnem, it seems like a routine part of the day... not touching the heart as gurbani should. sad smiley the same thing can be true for simran. that's where the parrot metaphor came from.

If mere chatter could help meet the beloved, why should a parrot remain caged?
(bhai gurdaas jee)

also from bhai gurdaas jee:
The parrot does not leave the rod and caught in it cries and wails.

i have a fascination with parrots in sikhi. there are so many references to parrots, some positive, some not so much. the story of Ganika the prostitute, who was blessed with the gift of naam by teaching her parrot to speak "raam"...
did you know that bhai jeevan singh jee had a parrot? when it died, he did akhand paath for it! people asked him why, and he said that the parrot was deserving of akhand paath, because the only word it ever said was "waheguru".

I have seen a parrot trained saying Waheguru, with relatives of Bhai Sahib Ji. May be, it was the same. confused smiley

Thank you Bhein ji for explaining the lines. The ideas are very clear and fascinating now. "finding" word used could not be grasped by me, in the correct meaning.

where are you hiding?
the colour is draining from inside me
my mind is flickering, on and off, on and off
my panging calls are becoming mechanical
it's not long now
where are you hiding?

Now, my life has grown weary, and I shall not last much longer; how can I be patient?

If I drown and die, and then a boat comes along, tell me, how shall I climb aboard? ||3||
