Akal Chalana - Bhai Kaur Singh jee

Posted by Kulbir Singh
I just found out that Bhai Kaur Singh jee who wrote many books on Sikh Rehit Maryada has passed away. Bhai Sahib was a very strict Sarblohi Singh and a very fierce supporter of Laridaar Saroop of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee. Daas read his books about 15 years ago and it was his books that prompted me to keep Sarbloh Bibek rehit. Daas spoke with Bhai Sahib few times and he always used to answer Gurmat questions with patience and detail.

(Bhai Kaur Singh jee Amritsar)

In the recent years, Bhai Sahib got very weak but still by the Kirpa of Guru Sahib he kept strict Sarbloh Bibek. He used to cook his own meals.

Here are some of the Gurmat Teachings that he used to emphasize:

1. It is a must to be Amritdhari but it is even more important to be Rehitdhari Amritdhari. What's the point of being Amritdhari if one does not keep Rehit?

2. Sarbloh is the Shiromini Rehit of Khalsa. Without Sarbloh Bibek one can never avoid getting amalgamated. Without Sarbloh Bibek Rehit, there can never be unity in Panth.

3. All Sikh leaders should keep strict Rehit of Khalsa.

4. Gurdwara Act has acted as a disease for Khalsa Panth. Gurdwara Act brought the election process in Panth, replacing the Selection process.

5. The whole Panth should follow one Khalsa Rehit Maryada. There should be central Panj Pyare leading the Panth and these Panj Pyare should follow full Khalsa Rehit Maryada including Sarbloh Bibek. Only these Punj Pyare or one's authorized by them should conduct Amrit Sinchaar.

6. The Avatar of Kaljug is Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee - Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee. Everyone will seek their refuge. The Yug of Gurbani will come for sure. The time is not too far now.

7. Amrit should be given to only those candidates who agree to keep come in full Baana including two Kirpaan - one small one and one full size Kirpaan.

8. Amrit should be given to only those individuals who agree to keep Sarbloh Bibek and always wear Gurmukh Baana including 2 Kirpaans - one small one and one full size Kirpaan..

9. Only Laridaar Saroop of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee is the true Guru.

10. All Sikh organizations of the Panth should be dissolved and there should be only one organization - Khalsa Panth.

11. Siri Guru Gobind Singh jee showed Khalsa Panth how it should be led. Guru Sahib appointed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur as the Jathedar of Khalsa Panth and he in turn was to report to 5 Central Punj Pyare who always remained with him. So long as this combination of Jathedar and Punj Pyare stayed intact, Khalsa Panth was winning. When this combination broke, Panth suffered many years of hardships and has been suffering till now.

12. After Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, till now, the combination of leadership that Guru Sahib showed us has not come into being and this is why the Panth is suffering slavery today. So long as we don't adopt this format of leadership, we will continue to suffer.

13. It is Guru Sahib's Hukam to first test and then adopt. Before accepting someone as our leader, we must do his Sangat to see if this person is following Gurmat Rehit - is he getting up at Amritvela? Is he following Guru Sahib's rehit? Only after testing we should adopt someone as our leader. Today no one sees the Sikhi jeevan of our leaders and this is why our leaders are weak in Rehit and therefore deceive our Panth at all times.

14. Today Sikhs show a lot of respect to Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee - they bow before Guru Sahib, they present beautiful Rumaalay but they don't obey Guru Sahib's Hukams. How can Guru Sahib be pleased with them?

15. Ones who consume meat and liquor are demons.

More will be written from Bhai Sahib Kaur Singh jee's books in the coming days. May Guru Sahib do Kirpa on Bhai Sahib's Atma that has left this world.

Indebted to Bhai Kaur Singh jee,
Daas,
Kulbir Singh

Daas really enjoyed the writings of Gurpuri Vaasi Bhai Sahib Koar Singh Jee. After Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Jee this Singh jee wrote extensively on Sarabloh bibek Rehat. His writings are very inspirational on individual Rehat Rehni and Panthic Rehni. As far as daas knows Bhai Sahib lived mostly gupt jeevan. He used to come to Banga on Sri Guru Teg Bhadur Jee’s Shaheedi Smagam. Rehatvaan Singhs will miss his presence. As Bhai Sahib Gurdaas Jee mentioned 'Gurmukh Janam Savaar Dargah Chalia’ Bhai Sahib jee lived that honor. As Bhai Kulbir Singh Jee mentioned some points of his high thinking which clearly indicates how high avashta he enjoyed. Aside from his big tracts on Gurmat, following is the small tract on Panthic Rehni which he printed and asked Singhs to distribute and no cost. Punjabi readers can take laha by reading.

Bhai Sahib Jio,

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

As far as I know following are his writings:

1. Small Tract named "SUTANTARTA" which is also posted in link above.
2. Tract "Khalsa Vidhaan":

3. Small Book "Ram Raaj":

4. Small Book "THOS EKTA" (ਠੋਸ ਏਕਤਾ)

Other than these if any one knows more please do share. Where to get these? At this moment I do not know which book shop carries those but I got my copies of no. 2, 3, 4 from Gurudwara Sahib Tapoban about 2 years ago and small tract ਸੁਤੰਤ੍ਰਤਾ is already in above link. I would say All writings are a must read for a Gurmat seekars.

Following is from Khalsa Vidhaan written by Bhai Kaur Singh Amritsar and translated by a Premi Singh for the benefit of sangat.

Jathebandeeaa
Translated from Khalsa Vidhaan by Bhai Kaur Singh

There are many Jathebandeeaa at this moment in time, when we examine them we find they have positive points as well as negatives.

When one Sikh or one Jathaa is in Chardeekalaa (high spirits) then it automatically attracts other seekers of truth. They have great faith in the word of God, which results in their spiritual state increasing tenfold. One must realise that the Sikh only becomes Chardeekalaa once they have adopted complete Rehat and meditated on the Name of the lord.

The beloveds that give their love to the Panth forget that they have reached such a state due to adopting complete Rehat and so this becomes an area of weakness.

These beloveds create a group of Gursikhs who hold similar views, in time they become a separate Jathebandee then even when the beloved passes away, his followers keep faith in him.

When Gianee Gurbachan Singh Jee Khaalsaa was head of Taksaal there were less weaknesses. Candidates for Amrit were instructed to keep Sarbloh Bibek, Bibiaa were instructed to wear Dastaar. Giaanee Jee was Sarblohee himself and his family all wore the turban, including women. He especially had great love and affection for Bhai Sahib Randheer Singh. Believe it or not, both of their Rehats were almost exactly matching. After the passing away of the two Singhs, weaknesses crept in to both Jathebandeeaa, however, Dastaar is still prescribed to be mandatory in the Akhand Keertanee Jathaa.

The head of the Naamdhaaree sect, Baba Raam Singh kept full Rehat, which included Sarbloh Bibek, Shastar and BaaNaa – he was a complete Khalsaa. Their Rehat did not stay, but the group is still around. Nowadays they are far from Gurmat ideals and have started their own line of Gurus, this is why they are rejected by mainstream Sikhs. It is evident that ritual has become their love rather than religion. Such as, the Neel Dhaarees who wear Blue Kamar Kassai (belt around waist). Even the women do not shy away from wearing the Kamar Kassai. They are followers of a Sant and do not hesitate to wear the Kamar Kassa, but yet they hesitate to accept the Rehat as laid down by Guru Gobind Singh Jee. None of them have adopted the five articles of faith (Panj Kakkar, including Dastaar), nor have they taken up Sarbloh Bibek.

If one analyses these weaknesses, it becomes crystal clear that there is no Khalsaa spirit left within the Panth, with which all the Khalsaa would have adopted one Rehat and the Khalsaa itself would have been one Jathebandee, there would only be one Panth. Then all other Jathebandeeaa would have shut down.

I would just to clarify regarding the above:
"When Gianee Gurbachan Singh Jee Khaalsaa was head of Taksaal there were less weaknesses. After the passing away of the two Singhs, weaknesses crept in to both Jathebandeeaa, however, Dastaar is still prescribed to be mandatory in the Akhand Keertanee Jathaa."

Sant Gurbachan Singh Jee was Sarbloh Bibeki when they were with the Nihang Singhs in Buddha Dal. After coming into sangat of Sant Sundar Singh Jee they were not. Candidates for Amrit were not instructed to keep Sarbloh Bibek. However they (Sant Jee) were always firm in the principle of eating food prepared only by Amritdharis, as were Sant Kartar Singh Jee and Sant Jarnail Singh Jee, but even this was not prescribed as mandatory to the candidates in Amrit Sanchaars. I am not sure on topic of Dastaar being made compulsary in Amrit Sanchaars, although it is true all of Sant Gurbachan Singh Jee's family did wear turban.
