Can the soul be Dusht ?

Posted by harinder_singh
These tukks are from Ang 38 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee. My question is that Aatma is an essence of Parmatma, can the Aatma be dusht (evil) ?

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਨੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਬਹਿ ਸਚਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
dhharam raae no hukam hai behi sachaa dhharam beechaar ||
The Righteous Judge of Dharma, by the Hukam of God's Command, sits and administers True Justice.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਆਤਮਾ ਓਹੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ॥
dhoojai bhaae dhusatt aathamaa ouhu thaeree sarakaar ||
Those evil souls, ensnared by the love of duality, are subject to Your Command.

The Atma cannot be Dusht, since it is essence of Parmatma. Here the word Atma is in the of meaning of Self ( i.e. Jeev Atma. Jeev Atma means not only Atma but whole of Antashkaran including Mann (mind), Chitt etc.

The aunkad at the end of its adjective ਦੁਸਟੁ proves that ਆਤਮਾ is firstly a masculine noun, secondly singular. The English meanings have been done assuming it is plural, which is not correct.

kulbir singh veerjee, did you learn these rules of grammar when learning regular punjabi, or did you learn them through viakaran?

if the second, do they apply only to gurbani, or do they apply to all of (classical) punjabi language?

Bhain jeeo,

When learning Punjabi, or any other language, we learn regular grammar e.g. nouns, verb, adjectives, adverbs etc. All languages have words that can be classified as nouns, verbs, adjectives or adverbs.

Gurbani too has nouns, verbs, adverbs, prepositions but the thing to learn is how the form of these words change i.e. how the spellings change when these words come as singular nouns vs plural nouns, masculine gender nouns vs feminine gender nouns and so on.

This unique Gurbani grammar has to be learned from Gursikhs or from books of Gursikhs. It is not taught in normal schools. Daas too gained meagre understanding of Gurbani grammar from books of Gurmukhs and Sangat.

Daas,

Rule no. 2. The aunkad at the end of its adjective ਦੁਸਟੁ proves that ਆਤਮਾ is firstly a masculine noun, secondly singular.

Veer Ji, you told us the rule no. 1, how the aunkad of a noun disappears. Now, this rule no. 2 is for adjectives of the nouns.

Thank you Ji.
