How do you respond to someone who questions keski by saying that this is the dress of men and women are not supposed to wear it?

ਅਖੇ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਤਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਲਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

ਇਹ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਬੋਦਾ ਦਲੀਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਤਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ। ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਤਵ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਅੰਗ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਹੀ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਖਰੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਜਨਨੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਵ ਜਨਮੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਧ ਪਿਲਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਹੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਛਾਤੀਆਂ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਦਸਤਾਰ ਸਜਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਤਵ ਕਦੇ ਖਤਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।

ਦਿਲਚਸਪ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਜਕਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਵੀਨ ਤੇ ਪਛਮੀ ਤਹਿਜ਼ੀਬ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਤਾਸਰ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ, ਮਰਦਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਪੈਂਟ ਪਹਿਣਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਮਰਦ ਲਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਣਿਤ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੈਂਟ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੇਸ ਹੈ ਤੇ 40-50 ਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪਛਮੀ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੈਂਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਪਹਿਣਿਆ ਕਰਦੀ ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪਹਿਲ ਪੈਂਟ ਪਾਉਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਇਹੋ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪੈਂਟ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਅਤ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੁਣ ਦੇਖ ਲਓ ਕਿਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਇਹ ਵੇਸ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਨੁਕਤਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਜ ਕੱਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਾਡਰਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਆਨਮਤੀ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਲ ਕੱਟਵਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਮਰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੇਸ ਪੈਂਟ ਪਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਅਤ ਖਤਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੁਆਏ ਕੱਟ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਕਿ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਤੇ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਜਾਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦਸਮੇਸ਼ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਪਹਿਨਣ ਨਾਲ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦੀ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਅਤ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਖਰਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦਲੀਲਾਂ ਸਭ ਢਕੋਂਸਲੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਬਹਾਨੇ ਹਨ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਤ ਨਾ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਓ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਤਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਾਰੇ ਮਾਤਰ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਜਿਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ ਉਹ ਗਾਫਲ ਹੋਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਦੀਨ (ਧਰਮ) ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਦ ਸੀਸ ਹੀ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਂਟ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਸੀਸ ਤੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਸਜਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਕਰੇ, ਸਿਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਸ਼ਿਕਵਾ? ਸਿਖ ਤਾਂ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬੈਖਰੀਦ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ਼ ਖਰੀਦਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਗੁਲਾਮ ਹੈ। ਗੁਲਾਮ ਕੀ ਤੇ ਹੀਲ ਹੁੱਜਤ ਕੀ? ਸਿਖ ਉਹੋ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚ ਰਹੇ ਤੇ ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਣੇ (ਮਰਜ਼ੀ) ਵਿਚ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਟੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਛੜ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਤ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਟੇਢੀਆਂ ਜੋਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕਿ ਚੋਟਾਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਚੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ; ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਪਛਤਾਉਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਯਥਾ ਗੁਰਵਾਕ:

ਸੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਸਖਾ ਬੰਧਪੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਭਾਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੋਤਾਵੈ ॥1॥

my personal thoughts? we don't loose an ounce of femininity! the keskee/dastaar is a crown, a symbol of royalty. in dastaar and bana women look like queens. it makes us radiant. in africa, women of high social status wear turbans. they are so elegant and graceful. several strangers of african descent have approached me to tell me i look like a queen in my dastaar. in the past few years, turbans have even graced the models of the fashion world!

we're so blessed to have such a beautiful and powerful gift from guru sahib. he tied it with his own hands on the head of mata sahib kaur ji. and how do we recognize her? by calling her mata, mother. the most feminine title of all! we should wear our dastaar every day with thanks and grace. worldly fashions go in and out of style, but the dastaar is an eternal symbol of guru sahib's blessing. wearing guru sahib's gift every day gives us a glow from within. this is true beauty.

If someone says that then just laugh at their shallow comment. Its their way to further the monopolization of sikhi to get women to not wear turbans and to get their kids to be more able to slip from sikh. I come across many many foolish "sikhs" who can read gurbani but not comprehend its teachings,they dont know which hand is left or right which way is up or down, yet they try to teach others. Dont listen to guys who want to "eyeball" panjabi women and not gurus sikh women. jus know they are fools and ignore their stupidity. vahiguroo

Beautiful words Bhain jeeo. Indeed, Dastar is a crown that Guru Sahib has blessed us and the greatest thing is that he blessed it to both males and females. Guru Sahib did no discrimination and partiality. He blessed the crown to both his sons and daughters.

And Pritam Singh jee, I agree with the statement that guys who consider women to be objects of lust. When they behold the Khalsa women in Khalsa Baana, their evil lust is subdued. Pure and pious love takes place of this lust. Some people just can't handle this and they move to discredit Dastaar which is the emblem of piety and gracefulness.

Those people who make such claims have really lost the plot. According to their logic men should not wear Karha, Kanga, and keep kes because these could be considered as feminine articles. They probably also believe that men shouldnt do kirtan because singing could be considered as "unmanly " . Next such people are going to claim Man cant do langar seva, or Women cant fight.

Rehat applies equally to both men and women. Guru Sahib did not go around the Amrit Sanchar and say your a women you cant have kirpan or dastar , or you are a man and you cant have Karha or kanga. Truth of the matter is Singhs can do kirtan and SInghnis can do Gatka . Guru Ji expects that his Sikhs keep a strong balance of miri- piri qualities.

1) gurbani describes all our souls as female brides

2) all rehats are genderless they apply to everyone e.g keski not just for men

3) Khalsa mero roop hai khas. Khalsa is my image (i.e guroo sahibs image) if we dont have guroo sahib identity of bana, shastar and dastar how can we even say we practising guroo ka sikh

4) Our own history gursikh bibia heads were also traded for coin as they were distinct from every other bibi as our gursikh bibia wore dastara(n) and people who traded them in would say that these are heads of young sikh boys who havent got a beard yet. Even upto 1925 the akaal takaht maryada bibia who wanted to take amrit had to wear a dastar.

5) ਨਾਪਾਕ ਪਾਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹਦੀਸਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਸਿਰਾ ॥12॥

all sikhs regardless off jathebandi or school or thought read this during an akhand paat/ sehaj paat but how many comprehend it.

6) rehat pyaree mujh ko sikh pyara nahee. Guro sahib loves the rehat of the sikh not the sikh themselves (please correct me if this is not the coorect translation)

If dass has said anything to offend anyone this was not dass's intention if their is something good take it away if something bad please do vichar with dass and the gurmatbibek sangat in a civialised manner.

This is very learning topic. Guru jee's Singh/Singhnia contributed a lot for this Rehat. Bhai Kulbir Singh jee's Panjabi write up is excellent. Bhai Pritam Singh and Bhai Tarlochan Singh Jee in few words nailed the decease. Daas feels due resurgence in the dastaar especially in bibiya(n), poojaari of lust are very afraid of this surge so they try to manipulate the Sikh bibiya with scare tactics such as mentioned in the heading of this topic but on the other hand the daughters of Sri Dasmesh jee are slapping their faces with strict Rehat Rehni, do not forget bibiya(n) use to sing this loudly:
ਮੰਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੀ ਦਾਤਰੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਮੰਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਸੋਏ,
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਮੰਨੂੰ ਵਢਦਾ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੂਣ ਸਵਾਏ ਹੋਏ।

Although Mannu is dead but these new Mannu(s) are grown up who are trying to remove heads (Dastaars) of Sri Dasmesh Jee's daughters but as soon as they try to proceed, Sri Dasmesh Jee's daughters are grown to double. The following holding is good reminder for them:

Not only Indian people; but the so called "advanced western society" also presents itself as biased; unscientific, inhuman and cruel to women; sometimes; when it is reported to force its women employees to wear high heel shoes and restrict to other dress code at workplace or clubs, to look famine; irrespective of their concern for health and convenience. May be this happened in England in recent times.

The real liberation of women and gender equality; is found only in the House of Guru Nanak. Men and their women too; yes, women themselves; in general do not like to get liberated from this charming looking Fur Coat of Womanhood.
