What is the maryada for doing nishan dee seva

Following are some of the Maryada points of doing Nishan Sahib sewa:

1. 5 Tyaar-bar-Tyaar, Rehitvaan Gursikhs are chosen from Sangat as Punj Pyare.

2. The Punj Pyare perform an Ardaas before beginning the Sewa of Nishan Sahib.

3. The Sangat led by Punj Pyare do sewa of Nishan Sahib.

4. Sangat that participates in this Sewa should all have done Keshi Ishnaan and wear Sucha (clean) Gurmukhi Baana. Singhs who do this sewa, remove their pajaamis.

5. Depending on how the Nishan Sahib is established, it is brought down so that the old Chola Sahib can be removed.

6. Once the Chola Sahib is removed, the Nishan Sahib is washed with a mixture of water and milk. Milk is used as per tradition, and milk is used because it is considered to be pavitter (pure, holy). The floor of Siri Harmandir Sahib too is washed with milk everyday.

7. The Sarblohi Khanda on top of the Nishan Sahib is scrubbed properly to remove any rust. Then some gheo is applied to it, to prevent it from rusting too soon.

8. The Nishan Sahib should be worn the new Chola Sahib.

9. Amidst Jaikaaras, the Nishan Sahib is again made to stand by Sangat.

10. The ending Ardaas should be performed to seek forgiveness for any mistakes and to seek Guru Sahib's kirpa so that "Jhooltay Nishaan Rahe Panth Maharaaj ke."

If someone can add something to the above, it would be great.

Bhul Chuk dee Maafi jee.

Daas,
Kulbir Singh

our gurdwara is in a wooded area, and the nishan sahib is surrounded by gravel and flower beds... still, it is essential for sangat to remove shoes before doing the seva.

i know it seems obvious to us, but for some situations, people forget these things. smiling smiley
