Poem For 13 Shaheed & Vaisakhee

It is a bentee that can the sangat please wrote a poem on either 13 Shaheeds or Birth Of Khalsa

On the 13th of April please do post all you poems jee.

He's what Bhai Fauja Singh wrote to give every inspiration

Kurbani: Poem Of Sacrifice

O True Guru we will serve your everlasting Sikhi with our every word, thought and deed

We will devote our youth, wealth and all worldly possessions to the cause of the Panth

My body, preserved since childhood, will be sacrificed now the need has arisen

By continuously repeating and sincerely following Gurbani we will get rid of all our evil-mindedness

If you keep you Grace my Graceful Lord, we will sacrifice ourselves limb by limb

We will endeavour to fly the wonderful flag, which marks the treasure of your Naam all over the world

The light of faith that seems to be dwindling will be rekindled with our blood

By forsaking our mind's wisdom O Lord, we will blend our soul with yours

With your divinely ordained faith we will overcome all evil

By sacrificing ourselves we will revive and renovate the fading symbol of our faith

The Khalsa speaks with your Grace; our inner-voice will be heard by all

Sikhi is immortalising nectar and we will serve it with the five Kakkars to our last breath

When all else fails, in the hour of need, we will sacrifice our heads at your altar

i also read this is AKJ Bulletin. I thought it would be worth posting it here as well.

Vaahiguru jee ka khasa vaahiguru jee kee fateh!

I have accepted your advice and have forgotten that Singh. He can do whatever he wants. What is it to us?

Otherwise, I have a request I want to make of you. We have finished our worldly lives and taken birth in the Guru’s house and even more than that, we have enlisted in the Guru’s army. It is the responsibility of every Sikh born in the Guru’s house that he does some seva, and we have as of yet not been able to do this seva with our own hands. But we certainly should do some seva. You should consider the case you are fighting as seva of Gursikhi and do so in a heartfelt, happy and thankful spirit, knowing that Satguru jee is teaching something and something good will come out of this lesson.

If you stay laughing and happy, then know that his will is sweet. There is almost no Sikh spirit left in Singhs now. If you stay laughing and happy, then forget just Fauja Singh, know that you will break the jail of the entire world. If you lose this battle or feel scared/worried, and if you go sit alone in regret, then know that the living example of Sikhi has begun to falter. Become like how Singhs and Singhnees are supposed to be. Make your life embody those principles. That hot air (hard time) you are in now, should become cool after touching your body. Those jungles that you must go through should remain laughing by your spirit for years to come. Those oceans which you must cross, their deepness and terror should always be reduced. Those paths that you are going to walk on, should forever bear your marks. That life which rises above cowardice becomes like a spring of love. It becomes a tower of sacrifice. Those people who call sacrifice “being destroyed”, let them say it. This is what suits them. Those people who enjoy sleeping on their comfortable beds, and call this “life”, let them talk. This is their delusion.

Those who see jail and the noose as manmat, let them rest. They cannot resolve any affair of the Kaum. Those who become terrified by the crackle of the gun, let them jap naam so their cowardice can be eliminated.

Those who cannot protect their own life, faith and daughters and sisters, let them act smart because they cannot do kurbani (sacrifice). Those who are attached to their daughters, sons and property, let them remain intoxicated in that. They know a lot of excuses and they cannot bear any hardships due to their nature.

Do not feel bad about those who use the excuse of bhagti and do not pay attention to the work of the Kaum. This is their karma.

Don’t speak to the frog in the well about the ocean. Understanding the ocean is not something it is capable of doing. Those Kaums who smoke cigarettes and use tobacco are rising to new heights. The Singh children of Dasam Guru, the free Kaums, are crying for the Nehkalank.

Sat Sri Akaal to the Sarbat Khalsa.

Fauja Singh

Excellent idea Vista jeeo. Under this thread, let's write poems to celebrate Vasaakhi and to mark the Shaheedi Divas of 13 Gurmukhs who sacrificed their lives for the Chardi Kala of Khalsa Panth in 1978.

Daas,

Thirteen

Thirteen of them
were away
on thirteenth.
I could not attend
their rites.
I remember.
As stars
they shine,
I see in the sky.
Silent and cool.
At Peace.
With no grudges
no aspirations
I suppose.
Under the close proximity
of their father
Who blessed them
with martyrdom
for His Cause.
The Cause is there
still
with us as their
will.
I have to read it.
At least thirteen times.

Poems are a wonderful and a very loving way of remembering Guru Sahib, Gursikhs and historical incidents. Thanks MB Singh jeeo for reminding us about the Shaheeds of 1978.

during asa ki vaar
on april 13th
at ten in the morning
a beautiful day
in amritsar sahib
then the news came
enemy walking the streets
insulting my father
insulting my family
during asa ki vaar
then a warrior spoke
a line was drawn
to cross it meant death
a fauj stepped across
200 khalsa
both women and men
during asa ki vaar
ardaas was said
as the warriors left
a peaceful protest
on the part of the fauj
no weapons were drawn
still police said "turn back"
as the enemy attacked
with guns and bombs
with swords and spears
police turned on victims
they shot down a warrior
they shot down a saint
shaheed for the panth
13 singhs martyred
70 with wounds
yet the enemy went free
helped by police
during asa ki vaar
on april 13th

The events of 1978 vasakhi reminded me of the events when Baba Gurbaksh Singh Ji fought to protect the honor of Sri Harmandir Sahib from Abdali. Baba Ji and the SInghs fought against all odds he said for Khalsa to be victorious a Bhagat would have to sacrifice their life and do ardas at Sri Dargah ( Sach Khand ) after leaving this world. The Singhs listened to Baba Gurbaksh Singh and replied, "Baba jee, is there any Singh better for this than you? There is no one with more kamaiee. No one else has the power to abandon their body and go to Dargah like you do. No one else's request will be more acceptable to Vahiguru than yours." So Baba Ji and other Singhs became Shaheed and the Khalsa become Victorious because the Ardas of a Gurmukh never goes to waste. Like Baba Gurbaksh Singh Ji many of the Shaheed Singhs of 78 and 84 had much Naam Kamaee.

THis poem is dedicated to all the shaheeds who dedicated their life for Sikhi.

Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Dhan Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji
whom taught the Panth how to become Shaheed
Dhan Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji
whom planted the seed for the growing Khalsa tree.

Teyra Teyra Teyra.....
Blessed are YOUR Thirteen Magnificent Sons
they became the protective walls against the oppressors guns

Blessed are the Bujarag Shaheed Singhs whom at such an old age received Guru Jis grace
Instead of ending their final days meditating in a cave
they instead fought so Gurus honor would be saved

Blessed are the young SInghs who fought with all their might
Blessed was their Gurmat orientated insight.
The attachments and maya of this world could not phase these principled Singhs
Blessed, Blessed are these Singhs who in Sri Sach Khand shine like Kings.

Through their rock like faith
the 13 Singhs met their divine fate
They stood strong at Sri Harmandir Sahibs indestructible gate in 1978

At Sri Harmandir Sahib they completed their final Gurmukh hajj
Bhai Fauja shouted " Singhs lets get ready for our Anand Karaj!

These Spartan like Singhs fought in this temporary game
They thought against the jackals and the treacherous crane

As the bullets sprayed Guru Ji came to aide
the Singhs fought like wild lions coming out of a cage

With Naam on each breath
they brides were ready to meet sweet Death
they left the same way Baba Gurbax Singh Ji and the entire Jatha left
Approaching Sri Dargah their Ardas was heard
Thus a leader was created to wake up the sleeping herd

In 1984, Sant Ji heard the Shaheed Singhs call
he was not intimidated even though the army was "small"

Sant Bhindranwale and the other Singhs fought like Lions, and attained Martyrdom
Upon their last breath they heard the most blessed Guru Ji say come come come..
Like previous Singhs they reached Sri Darghah and did Ardas for the panth
Which jatha, which leaders, will Guru Ji send next to make a dying stand?

Through your pen you created the marvelous play
Through your pen you arranged the auspicious day

Through your pen "Aurangzeb the Tyrant" become king
Through your pen you sent the savior Sri GUru Gobind Singh

Aurangzeb was killed through your pen
Through your pen the unknown barber became Bhagat Sein

Your illuminating pen colors each black deed
Your illuminating pen destroys attachment and greed

Through your pen you write your praises
Through your pen you have been worshiped throughout the ages

Your pen saves the sinner
Your pen turns the loser into a winner
With your pen you write the date of everyones beautiful fate

The date is that eternal moment where we meet Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji Maharaj
This is not a mere date it is the most blissful Anand Karaj

With his hand, Guru Sahib wrote the name in the devotees head
Without this name we were dead

On Vasakhi day you lifted up your graceful sword
On Vasakhi day Bhai Daya Singh Ji was memorized by your word.

To be continued..

In the sweet memory of the 13 Shaheed Singhs of 1978:

Remembering Vasaakhi of 1699:

Weary feet
gasping chest
the road is long
her limbs crave rest
exploding pain
aching heart
she cannot breath
her mouth is parched
she cannot breath
the road is long
she cannot breath
she can’t go on

she digs her heel into the ground
swiftly, she stops to turn around
no breath left, she can’t go on…
a voice calls out: “come on!”

Her body’s screaming
Her chest is heaving
Her eyes are tearing…
An orange nishaan flutters ahead.

“Keep breathing!”
The voice prods again
Clogged throat
Breath out, breath in
One step forward
Breath out, breath in
Back into rhythm
Breath out, breath in
the road is long
she must go on

Silence passes
Her choked breath subsides
A bearded man
Moves by her side
The time is right,
He now decides

“Bhai Fauja Singh,”
he slowly begins
-Breath out, breath in
Breath out, breath in-

“Bhai Fauja Singh
Drew a line in the ground…”
-don’t turn around-
“drew a line and said…”
-just keep looking ahead-
“ ‘If you are ready…”
-keep your footsteps steady-
“to play His game…”
-ignore the pain!-
“to invoke his name
-IGNORE THE PAIN!-
“if you are ready
To give your head
To die for your Panth
To dye yourself red
If you are ready
To run along this Path
And face death’s
Oncoming wrath
If you are ready
To walk into the night
And meet with your fate
In the fight for what’s right
If you are ready
Then come – cross this line
There can be no more waiting, friends
Now is the time.’”

The Nishaan Sahib flutters up ahead.

The bearded man looks her in the eyes and says
“On Vaisakhi Day, shaheeds gave their head.
On the other side, the lion waits for you and roars
Will you cross that line ?
The choice is yours.”

The road was long
But now she could not stop
Her brothers and sisters
Urged her on to the spot
Where the Nishaan Sahib
-Which always moved forward-
Fluttered ahead

At last, at last
She gave her head.

Gurus beloved

Bhai Lehna Ji obeyed Guru Sahibs every order he was considered the Gurus own
through Bhai Lehna Jis discipline the path of Sikhi was shown
Bhai Lehna Ji did whatever Guru Sahib said
he was even willing to eat the dead
Similarly Bhai Daya Singh Ji did whatever Guru Sahib said
he had no sense of meh meh ( I) and offered his head

Bhai Daya Singh Ji had an illuminating face
his face was the embodiment of Guru Jis grace

Bhai Sahib previously took amrit from Guru Jis holy feet
thus the GuruShabad was already his secret retreat

Guru Sahib asked for a head
listening to the Gurus words some quickly fled

But, Bhai Daya Singh Ji was completely intoxicated in Naam
Naam sounded and penetrated his heart like an alarm
Listening to GUru Jis words Bhai Daya Singh Ji went into a trance
The thought of dying to the Gurus sword he considered a rare chance
The thought of his head receiving a blow from the Gurus sword
through this thought he recited VaaheGuru the holy word

A second without his Guru his tender heart would melt
His kind and tender heart everybody felt.

Bhai Sahibs was full of compassion, pure milk was his heart
reciting Naam the churning of cream would begin to start
Churning and Churning this cream his heart would eventually become Ghee
So sweet became Bhai Sahib, he received his sustenance from the Parjat tree

On Vasakhi Day Guru Sahib gave Gurgaddi to the Shabad and the Khalsa panth
The Sikh Dharam became a path for the Warrior - Sant

The Khalsa became ambassadors of the Sikh Faith
Bhai Daya Singh Ji would spread Sikhi through his compassion and illuminating face

Bhai Sahibs spring like heart would bring warmth to the winter heart
His compassion made the helpless feel like there was no longer dark
As a Jyot Vigaasi Gurmukh, Bhai Sahib would spread Sikhi with just his look
Through his bir ras eyes the enemies completely shook

Many thanks to all contributors to this thread. Sukhdeeep Singh, SK, Bhai MB Singh, Bibi 1Kaur all contributed wonderful poems and this way expressed their love for Guru Sahib and Shaheed Singhs. One Kavi is missing - Bhai Mehtab Singh. And Sukhdev Singh too did not contribute any poem to this thread.

Please post your Vasaakhi poems Kavi Mehtab Singh jeeo and Kavi Sukhdev Singh jeeo. Also Vista jee, you mentioned that you were going to try writing one. How's it coming along?

She gave her head

I could not solve the mystery in the poem. Who is she referred to?

"Through your Pen" lines penned by Veer Ji are Kamaal.

Assa Ki Vaar describes the scene pretty well.

Guru Sahib Mehar Karan.

Could it be the Jeev-Aatma?

It would be best if SK jee herself answered this.

She is my mothers, who give birth to kings, she is my sisters, who hold me under their wings, she is my Guru's blessed Kaurs and Singhs, she is all those travellers who walk the stormy path, she is all those Sikhan who step forward and don't look back, "she" is whoever "she" is supposed to be, yes she's jeevan-atma, and she is also me; she is and she is not, she's whoever you can see.
