Medicine is given according to the Disease

ਜੈਸੇ ਤਉ ਅਨੇਕ ਰੋਗੀ ਆਵਤ ਹੈਂ ਬੈਦ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ
ਜੈਸੋ ਜੈਸੋ ਰੋਗ ਤੈਸੋ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਖੁਵਾਵਈ ॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਰਾਜ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਲੋਗ ਆਵਤ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਮਿਤ
ਜੋਈ ਜਾਹੀਂ ਜੋਗ ਤੈਸੀ ਟਹਿਲ ਬਤਾਵਈ ॥
ਜੈਸੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਾਸ ਜਨ ਅਰਥੀ ਅਨੇਕ ਆਵੈਂ
ਜੋਈ ਜੋਈ ਜਾਚੈ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਦੁਖਨ ਮਿਟਾਵਈ ॥
ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਵਤ ਹੈਂ ਅਨੇਕ ਸਿਖ
ਜੈਸੋ ਜੈਸੋ ਭਾਉ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੁਜਾਵਈ ॥674॥

The echo of one’s voice is similar to the voice itself. One reaps what one sows. In Siri Asa kee Vaar, Siri Guru jee says, how can it be justice that one sows poison but wants to reap Amrit. If we want good for ourselves in the future, we have to do good in our present. Bhai Gurdaas jee in one of his great Kabit expresses similar thoughts. Bhai Sahib gives us 3 examples or metaphors and in the 4th verse states the Gurmat Principle:

1. Many sick people come to the house of a Vaid (doctor) but the Vaid gives the medicine according to the disease. In other words, all don’t get the same medicine.

2. Many unemployed people arrive at the government’s office to seek employment, but everyone is given employment according to one’s capability. In other words, everyone does not get the same kind of employment.

3. Many needy people arrive at the doorstop of a philanthropist but they receive gifts according to their needs. In other words, all needy people are not given the same charity (daan).

4. Same way, many Sikhs come to the refuge of the true Guru but their spiritual wishes are fulfilled according to their faith and love (Bhao). In other words, all Gursikh don't immediately get the same spiritual reward. They get rewarded in accordance to their love and devotion.

Guru Sahib is neutral and looks at each being with the similar eye of grace but that being gets Kirpa who has love for Satguru and the Kirpa is in proportion to his love and devotion.

May Guru Sahib enable us to selflessly love Guru Sahib, so that we may get Kirpa.

For point 4 I think the following Shabad applies beautifully. The first two lines are amazing. If only this moorakh did vichaar! Maharaj kirpa karan!!!!

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਜੇਤਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
सतिगुर नो सभु को वेखदा जेता जगतु संसारु ॥
Saṯgur no sabẖ ko vekẖ▫ḏā jeṯā jagaṯ sansār.
All the living beings of the world behold the True Guru.


ਡਿਠੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜਿਚਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਨ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
डिठै मुकति न होवई जिचरु सबदि न करे वीचारु ॥
Diṯẖai mukaṯ na hova▫ī jicẖar sabaḏ na kare vīcẖār.
One is not liberated by merely seeing Him, unless one contemplates the Word of His Shabad.


ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
हउमै मैलु न चुकई नामि न लगै पिआरु ॥
Ha▫umai mail na cẖuk▫ī nām na lagai pi▫ār.
The filth of ego is not removed, and he does not enshrine love for the Naam.


ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਤਜਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
इकि आपे बखसि मिलाइअनु दुबिधा तजि विकार ॥
Ik āpe bakẖas milā▫i▫an ḏubiḏẖā ṯaj vikār.
The Lord forgives some, and unites them with Himself; they forsake their duality and sinful ways.


ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੧॥
नानक इकि दरसनु देखि मरि मिले सतिगुर हेति पिआरि ॥१॥
Nānak ik ḏarsan ḏekẖ mar mile saṯgur heṯ pi▫ār. ||1||
O Nanak, some behold the Blessed Vision of the True Guru's Darshan, with love and affection; conquering their ego, they meet with the Lord. ||1||

ਭਾਈ ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀਉ,

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ। ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਿਹ॥

ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਕਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਵੈਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਰੋਗ ਪਛਾਣ ਪਛਾਣ ਕੇ ਦਵਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੱਸ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਇਕ ਗੱਲ ਹੋਰ ਜੋ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ “ਤੈਸੇ ਗੁਰ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਵਤ ਹੈਂ ਅਨੇਕ ਸਿਖ” । ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਜ਼ਰਾ ਗੌਰ ਕਰਿਉ ਇਸ ਤੁਕ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਲਾਈਨ ਵੀ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਦੀ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੰਬੀ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਦਾਸ ਇਥੇ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਝ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੇਗਾ ਜੀ। ਦੇਖੋ ਇਹ ਭੀ ਇਕ ਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਸੂਲ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਦੀ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਤੇ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਕੰਮਪਾਉਡਰ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿ ਮਾੜੀ ਮੋਟੀ ਮਰਜ਼ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਹਨ ਭਾਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਵਰੋਸਾਏ ਰਹਿਤ ਰਹਿਣੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਾਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਹੁਣ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਨੋਟ ਕਰੀਏ ਜਦੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਦੀ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਤੇ ਲਾਈਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੰਬੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਕੰਮਪਾਉਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਹ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਜਿਹਨਾ ਦੀ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਨਹੀ ਉਹਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਫਲਾਨੀ ਫਲਾਨੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਤੋਰ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਭੀੜ ਘਟੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਰੋਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵੇਖ ਲਊਂ। ਹੁਣ ਸੋਈ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਨਿੰਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਵਖਤੀਂ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਗੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਰਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭੀ ਲੈ ਲੈਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਥ ਵਿਚ ਆਈਆਂ ਐਸੀਆਂ ਰੂਹਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਭਲੀਭਾਂਤ ਜਾਣੂ ਹੋ। ਪਰ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਦਾਸ ਗੱਲ ਇਸ ਬੀਤ ਰਹੇ ਜ਼ਮਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀਉ ਲਾਈਨ ਭੀ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਲੰਬੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਅਜੇ ਵਾਰੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਦਿਸਦੀ ਨਹੀ। ਖਬਰੇ ਕਿੰਨੀਆਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਰੂਹਾਂ ਦਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਹਨ। ਹੁਣ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅੱਜ ਕਲ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਵੇਟ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਤਾਂ ਬਸ ਹੁਣ ਕੰਮਪਾਉਡਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਗਾ ਲਾਈ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਜ਼ਰੀਂ ਆਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਝੱਟ ਦੇਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ ਦੱਸ ਕੇ ਦਵਾਈ ਲੈ ਲਈਏ। ਕਿਤੇ ਹੁਣੇ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਪਾਉਡਰ ਹੱਥ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ…

ਗੁਰੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੌਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਸ,

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹਿ।

ਭਾਈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ੇ-ਬਿਆਨ ਬੇਹਤਰੀਨ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਸ ਰੱਸ ਵੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਹਾਸ ਰੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਲੁਪਤ “ਦਰਦ-ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ ਹਾਲ” ਵੀ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਤਲੀ-ਖਾਕ ਦੇ ਮੁਤਲਾਸ਼ੀ ਹਾਂ। ਜੇ ਕਦੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਇਲਾਹੀ ਕੰਪਾਊਂਡਰ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਰੱਖਣਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਆੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਨਾ ਜਾਇਓ।

ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਅੱਗੇ ਜੋਦੜੀਆਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਿਵੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਫੱਲ-ਮਸਕੀਨੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਆਸਾ ਲਗ ਜੀਵਤੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਗੁਰੂ ਕਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਖੈਰ ਪਾਵੇਗਾ ਨਾ!
