What is Dev Puri ?
February 07, 2012 11:20AM
I was reading Bhattan de Swayiye but could not understand this swaiya. Why would Guru Sahib go to Dev puri ?

ਦੇਵ ਪੁਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਗਯਉ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਭਾਯਉ ॥
When it was the Will of the Transcendent Lord Himself, Guru Raam Daas went to the City of God.

Isnt the dev puri in Gyan Khand ?
The swaiya also talks about asur(demons) and surdev(gods) but both asur and sur are in Gyan Khand.

ਕੇਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਮੁਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਕੇਤੇ ਰਤਨ ਸਮੁੰਦ ॥
So many demi-gods and demons, so many silent sages. So many oceans of jewels

Dev Puri in this Pankiti actually means Gurdev-Puri. This Savaiya is the last of the Bhatt Savaiyas and informs us of what occurred in Sachkhand when Siri Guru Raamdaas jee went there. It was the will of Parmeshar Vaheguru that Siri Guru jee went to Sachkhand and Hari Vaheguru Himself accorded a throne for Siri Guru jee and had Him sit there.

The last 4 Pankitis now talk about the scene of Maatlok (this world). The whole world including the Devtas rejoiced the action of Siri Guru Raamdaas jee of installing Siri Guru Arjun Dev jee on the throne of Guruship. They cried out Jai Jai while beholding the amazing scene. The demons ran away from the sight. Such people who got Siri Guru Raamdaas Sahib jee as their Guru, all their sins got washed away.

The above is based on Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee's explanation of this Pauri.

Secret Gupt Story behind this Pauri

Once Giani Nahar Singh jee asked Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee about this Pauri. Bhai Sahib replied that this Pauri alludes to a secret incident that occurred at the time Siri Guru Raamdaas jee went to Sachkhand. It so occurred that as per the Will of Siri Vaheguru jee, Siri Guru Raamdaas jee went to the abode of Raja Indra i.e. in the heaven on His way to Sachkhand. The Devas greatly rejoiced the visit by Satguru jee because it's such a rare occurrence. Furthermore, since Guru Sahib went to that area where the heaven is, the hells too were affected by this visit. The suffering inhabitants of the hells were released by the demons (Asurs) because the visit of Guru Sahib in that area brought such wave of divine rays that the sins of the inhabitants of hells were washed away and the demons left them. Many hells were emptied as the result of this.

Guru Sahib knows the details of such incidents. The above is based on a very terse and brief account of this incident as narrated by Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee to Giani Nahar Singh jee.

Veer jeeoo,
the devtas dont reside in maatlok. According to Hindu matt, devtas reside in Swarag Lok whereas according to Gurmat, devtas reside in Gyan Khand. Therre are COUNTLESS INDRA-PURIS(where devtas live alongwith their raja inder) in Gyan KHand.

Harinder Singh Jeeo,

In his writngs Bhai Nand Singh Ji mentions how countless devtas would matha tek to Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the darbar Sahib. Many people say devtas come to the darbar sahib in this world to bay homage and request human birth so they can take amrit; thus taking birth in the Gurus house.

Veer jee, please clear this doubt of mine. You called abode of Raja Indra heaven but Indra-puri lies in Gyan Khand whereas heavens lie in Dharam Khand.
According to Jap jee Sahib, demons also live in Gyan Khand as posted by original poster but according to this story, place where demons live has been called hell.

Bhai Preetam Singh Jio, these events are not thing of past these are still happenning gupt roop wich and sometimes show occurances to fortunate one's. Guru Jyot is still here, mere physical shape is changed from human flesh to "SRI GRANTH JI". There is infinite Raaj of Sri Guru Jee which show it's power time to time. These devtas still come to Guru's house infact they are taking birth to become Khalsa of Guru. Dhan Dyallu Guru, Dhan Kirpallu Guru, Dhan Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Jee.

With Regards,
Daas
