Common Mistakes in Nitnem

Guru Pyaario, I was thinking it would be good if we could share awareness of common mistakes in Uchaaran (pronunciation) made in Nitnem so that we can all help one another to correct ourselves and help others also. I know that through elder Gursikhs and Sangat pointing out mistakes that I make whilst reciting Paatth has helped Daas to recognise and correct uchaaran.


Here are few to start off :

1) ਸੁਣਿਐ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਾਥ ॥ (Japji Sahib)
Incorrect Uchaaran: ਸੁਣੀਐ - sunnee-ai
Correct Uchaaran: ਸੁਣਿਐ - sunni-ai


2) ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਗੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੇਇ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ (Rehras)
Incorrect Uchaaran: ਸੇਈ - se-ee
Correct Uchaaran: ਸੇਇ - se-e


3) ਫਿਰ ਅੰਗਦ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੈ ਹੋਈਂ ਸਹਾਇ ॥ (Ardaas)
Incorrect Uchaaran: ਹੋਏ - hoe
Correct Uchaaran: ਹੋਈਂ - hoee(n)


4) ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਿਐ ਘਰ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਵੈ ਧਾਇ ॥ (Ardaas)
Incorrect Uchaaran: ਗੁਰ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ - gur tegh bahaadar
Correct Uchaaran: ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ - tegh bahaadar

In many modern day Gutkey Sahibs there are numerous mistakes in Ardas.
In hand written puratan saroops the first verses of ਵਾਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਕੀ
have numerous differences to the Ardas we commonly recite.


INCORRECT
ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਈਂ ਧਿਆਇ

CORRECT

ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਈਂ ਧਿਆਇ ॥

INCORRECT

ਅਰਜਨ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੋ ਸਿਮਰੌ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਰਾਇ ॥

CORRECT

ਅਰਜਨ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰੋ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਰਾਇ ॥

Incorrect

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਸ਼ਨ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਜਿਸ ਡਿਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

Correct
( no sihari in sabh and dukh)

ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਿਐ ਘਰ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਵੈ ਧਾਇ ॥

ਸਿਮਰ should be with a bihari and (ਏ) not sihari and ਐ

Sri Jap Ji Sahib has many words of Persian/Arabic origin in which we fail to make efforts to learn to
recite properly.

For example, ਕਾਗਦਿ should have bindi in gagga.
ਰਜਾਈ should also have a bindi in ਜ


Perhaps admin can add missing bindis in

Also, words like ਵਖਤ should be pronounced as Wakht not Vakht.

In extended version of Rehras Sahib

The following pangti
ਮਹਾ ਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਜੇ ਪਰੇ ਸੁ ਲਏ ਬਚਾਇ

is wrong and the meaning is those who go away from Guru Jis sharan will be saved.

The proper recitation is

ਮਹਾ ਕਾਲ ਕੀ ਜੇ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਏ ਸੁ ਲਏ ਬਚਾਇ

THose who come to GUru Jis sharan shall be saved.

ਹੋ ਜੋ ਯਾਕੀ ਏਕ ਬਾਰ ਚੌਪਈ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ

Yakee should be pronounced as Yakeen.

Meaning my faith has increased after reciting Kabiyo Bach Benti Chaupey.

you cant just bring a nana out of nowhere and put it there, it pronounced as yakee not yakeen

I meant to say (after reading this puari) Faith ( yakeen) will increase by reciting Kabiyo Bach just once

Nobody is adding a Nana. The meaning is yakee(n) with a bindi. Yakeen is an arabic word meaning Faith/trust.
If you believe the word is yakee kindly explain the meaning of Yakee . The word Yakee or Jakee has no meaning.
