ਹੈ ਕਾਬਿਲ-ਏ-ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਾਮ ਉਸੀ ਕਾ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵਜੂਦ-ਏ-ਹਸਤ ਕੀਯਾ ਤੁਜ ਕੋ।੧।

ਲਗਤੀ ਹੈ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮੀ ਉਸ ਕੀ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਾਬਿਲ-ਏ-ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਕੀਯਾ ਤੁਜ ਕੋ।੨।

ਲਾ ਅਪਨੇ ਜ਼ਹਨ ਪਰ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਉਸੀ ਕਾ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਜ਼ਹਨ-ਓ-ਦਿਮਾਗ਼ ਦੀਯਾ ਤੁਜ ਕੋ।੩।

ਖ਼ੁਦੀ ਕੋ ਕਰ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਰਾਹ-ਏ-ਖ਼ੁਦਾ ਕੋ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਬੂਲ-ਏ-ਹਸਤ ਕੀਯਾ ਤੁਜ ਕੋ।੪।

ਦੇਖ ਖਲਕ ਮੇਂ ਬਸ ਉਸੀ ਖਾਲਿਕ ਕੋ,
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਚਸ਼ਮ-ਓ-ਚਿਰਾਗ ਦੀਯਾ ਤੁਜ ਕੋ।੫।

'ਨਿਮਾਣਾ' ਕਰ ਤਲਾਸ਼-ਏ-ਹੱਕ ਉਸੀ ਕਾ,
ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਹੱਕ ਨੇ ਦੀਯਾ ਯੇ ਹੱਕ ਤੁਜ ਕੋ।੬।

Vah vah nimana jee, you have inspired the chah to write in Urdu, but I have a very very limited vocabulary, but I will still attempt it.

Below is a humble attempt at writing an Urdu Ghazal for Guru Vaheguru jee:


ਐ ਮੁਰਸ਼ਿਦੇ-ਕਾਮਲ ਪੀਰ, ਸ਼ੌਕੇ-ਵਿਸਾਲੇ ਯਾਰ ਹੈ ਹਮੇ।
ਸਭ ਨਿਹਮਤੋਂ ਕੇ ਹੋਤੇ ਭੀ, ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੂਨੋ ਕਰਾਰ ਹੈ ਹਮੇ।

ਦੁਨੀ ਕੇ ਦਿਲਕਸ਼ ਨਜ਼ਾਰੋਂ ਮੇਂ ਮੁਬਤਲਾ ਰਹੇ ਤਾ-ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ;
ਕਾਬਿਲੇ-ਮਿਹਰ ਤੋ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਹੈ ਹਮੇ।

ਯੇ ਦਿਲੇ-ਨਾਦਾਨ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਲੀਏ ਹੀ ਧੜਕਤਾ ਹੈ ਯਾਰਾ,
ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਤੇ ਤੁਝਸੇ ਇਤਨਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ ਹਮੇ।

ਜੈਸੇ ਕਮਸਿਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੋ ਪਤੀ ਪੇ ਹੋਤਾ ਹੈ ਇਤਮਾਤ ਪੂਰਾ।
ਤੈਸੇ ਹੀ ਐ ਖੁਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਹਿਮੋ ਕਰਮ ਪੇ ਇਤਬਾਰ ਹੈ ਹਮੇ।

ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਖਾਕਸਾਰ ਉਮੀਦੇ-ਦੀਦਾਰ ਪੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਨਮ।
ਤੇਰੀ ਯਾਦ ਆਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੋ ਹੋਤਾ ਨਾਲਾ-ਏ-ਬੇਇਖਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ ਹਮੇ।

how did u learn urdu ?. U got educated in a convent school in ludhiana and they dont teach urdu there.

ऐ मुर्शिदे-कामल पीर, शौके-विसाले-यार है हमें.
सब निहमतों के होते, नही सकूनो करार है हमें

दुनी के दिलकश नजारों में मुब्तला रहे ता ज़िन्दगी,
काबिले-मेहर तो नहीं, फिर भी तेरा इंतज़ार है हमें.

ये दिले-नादान हमारा, तेरे लिए ही धड़कता है.
बिआन नहीं कर सकते, तुझसे इतना प्यार है हमें.

जैसे कमसिन स्त्री को, पति पे होता है इत्मात पूरा.
तैसे ही ऐ खुदा तेरे रहमो करम पे इतबार है हमें.

कुलबीर सिंघ खाकसार, उमीदे-दीदार पे जिंदा है सनम,
तेरी याद आती है तो निकले, नाला-ऐ-बेइख्तिआर है हमें.

Veer jee they don't need to learn from schools.

I had great desire to learn urdu and farsi but i was also educated in a convent school in Ludhiana and was taught hindi and punjabi started from 8th class.

You are right Hainder Singh jeeo, that in CBSE schools in Punjab, they only teach your Hindi and English. Even Punjabi is taught only for 2 or 3 years; let alone Urdu.

I learned Urdu on my own, in my early years. It's a very sweet language.

My late Nanaji was very fluent in Urdu and knew quite a bit Farsi as well. Does this mean that under British Rule, these languages were taught in schools ?
My Nanaji wrote lots of urdu gazals in praise of Guru Sahibaan and those gazals were amazing.

Yes during the British Raj, Urdu was the main language taught in schools. My dad learned Urdu till about Grade 4 and then after the British left, Urdu was replaced by Punjabi. Please post some Ghazals of your grandfather, if you have them available.

I asked my Mamma Jee about the writings of Nana jee. They arent there. My Nana ji wasnt amritdhari but was Sabat Soorat.

He was SURELY a sehajdhari. His life makes me feel sure that there were sehajdharis from Guru Sahibaan times.
He used to get up at amritvela and do paath. He extremely disliked movie songs and had banned use of radio/TV in the house.Used to wear a simple kurta pajama and he used to ride a bicycle uptill the age of 80. He was very rich landlord but was extremely humble. At the time of his death, the last word that came from his mouth was 'Vaheguru'.

Preetam Singh jee, tusi bhi karo kirpa. Like you I am also new to Urdu poetry. It is a beautiful language which has great potential for taking Gurmat poetry to great heights. Let us make Gurmat Bibek into a center for Gurmat Punjabi/Urdu/Hindi/English poetry.

Below is my humble attempt at using Urdu words to write a very poem, please forgive the mistakes.

ਮੁਰਸ਼ਿਦ ਪਾਸ ਅਰਜ਼ਦਸ਼ਤ ਹੈ
ਅਲਹ ਕੀ ਹੀ ਤਾਰੀਫ ਹੈ

if needed please make corrections or do sudhaayi to this if I have made any grammatical or any other mistakes as this will only serve to improve future poetry.
