Bibeki Gursikhs around the world don't consume tea but its not a Kurehit to consume it if it's pure tea and does not have tobacco mixed with it. .

At the time of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee, it was found that recycled tea had been affected with tobacco. When Bhai Sahib found out about this, he published an advertisement in newspapers calling on Gursikhs to totally avoid tea. Since then, Gursikhs have been totally avoiding tea.

Coffee is a drug and so is tea. WHen people get addicted to something and they need it to function then it can be classified as a drug. I know many people who drink tea and coffee who cant start the day without a cup of this drug. Such drugs effect our mind and body, They are not natural for the body and the mind. THe only drug we need is Naam.

What if drinking coffee or tea helps you to recite more Naam and read more Gurbani? as it gives you more energy and helps you to concentrate.

The only things that truly inspire a person to jaap more naam and recite more Gurbani is good sangat and good spiritual books related to Gurmat. If people are saying caffeine helps them do more Bhagti next people will make the same claims about marijuana. Its best just to avoid all addictive drugs.

This sounds to me like a person saying that, "Some XYZ things give me kick towards Naam". Let's not become Manmukh and let's not cultivate a Punk culture. Just imagine how big this XYZ list will become if our children and their future generations start adding things that give "kick" towards Naam.

Jin prem kiyo, tin he prabh paayo. Let's stick to Gurmat.

Start cutting down your tea/coffee doses by 1-2 cups a day for few weeks and slowly eliminate it. Do ardaas and Guru Jee will help you out of this habit.

Sangat Ji,

Even I would like to know why Tea is served as Langar in almost all Gurudwaras everywhere nowadays. Is Gurudwara management making sure that the Tea they use is free of tobacco?

There is a special key word framed in Punjab specially, the Sevadaar would shout to sangat saying, "Chaa Da Langar Kar Lau" or "Chaa Da Langar Shak Ke Jao". And everybody makes sure that their glass is full till the brim. Many are not satisfied with 1 they want another 1 glass.

On Gurparabs I have seen Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee makes special arrangements to bring Coffee Machine too.

After seeing all this everywhere for so many years it still wonders me how can a person gets so addicted to Tea. Until and unless there is something mixed in Tea Factory nobody can get so much addicted.

I am an Amli when it comes to tea..drinking smiley. I agree that it is a drug for sure! Like Sukhdeep Singh said I find it hard to live without one dose a day (usually a strong one at that). I have been told by Gursikhs to stop drinking this nasha as some believe the tea leaves are dried on tobacco leaves. Not sure if this is true as I remember reading on a forum some years ago where a Singh approached one of the major tea firms and they denied this happens.

In Mehta and Bhindri they serve hot milk never tea.

The only Chardikalaa Gursikh I knew that drank tea, was Bhai Rama Singh Ji.

We need to define 'nasha' here. For some Sugar and fatty foods is a nasha and they become dependent on these amongst other foodstuffs.

Any food/thing that is controlling you, is definitely not good. I know people who get headaches if they don't get their "daily" tea. That is a sign of control, and dependence. Avoid anything that does that. And as for Langar serving tea, now we have people serving even Coke, and other sodas in Langar. We have styrofoam "bhaandey" used in langar. It does not make it right. You can not change anyone, but if you want to bring a change, definitely start from yourself. smiling smiley

caffine is a drug there is no doubt about it.

Caffine also creates more kaam in people when they consume it.

According to my 2nd year biochemistry text book caffine is similiar to viagra except that viagra is about 1 million times more potent than caffine. But they create identicle effects, its just that caffine does not create as "strong of an effect" as viagra.

please provide some more proofs to convince others. it is true that most of us don't use tea. but how we can convince others. just self example is not enough. for example here whole family uses tea , my whole friend circle uses it. but i cant stop them. and just one proof is not enough.

i tried to google this point, but it raised furthermore doubts. information was that chocolate also has caffine n one comment was that baba nand singh ji used to organise chah da langar(langar of tea)- it seems not true. PLEASE EXPLAIN SOME MORE PROOFS AGAINST TEA USING, BETTER IF IN PICTURES. and one funny logic i read out now that tobacco tea has anti cancer properties. what a stupid logic.

Tea is classified as drug because it contains a stimulant called caffeine. DO a search on caffeine and you will get all your answers.

Tea became popular in the panth during the Bristh Raj. Like Opium ( pheem), Tea was inported from CHina under the British hence the name Chaa and Chaee. At first only the " high class" SIkhs who freely socialized with the British consumed this drug the same way they would freely eat meat like the British. Eventually this drug ( tea) was imported heavily and it became popular among the uneducated masses.

In all Puratan Rehatnamey, Guru Ji has put a ban on stimulants such as marijuana ( bhang) , opium, and alcohol. These things never were allowed in the Langar. So why is tea which is a drug stimulant allowed? Why is plastic instead of Sarab Loh allowed in langar. Why does meat- eating patit instead of Tyar bar Tyar Rehatvan Gurmukh prepare langar? Sakhis mention Guru Jis langar was sweet but simple and ingredients mainly included: wheat, sugar, butter, and milk. Same holds true for Guru ANgad Dev Jis langar. In puratan times Bhajan ( praise, devotion ) and Bhojan ( eating) went hand in hand. THe food prepared by AMritDHari Gurmukhs was a boost to ones bhagti. Because food made according to Maryada comes from Guru Ji himself. GUru Ji says if a Gursikh does not believe the food he eats comes from Guru Ji then he is no SIkh at all. THis is why we always recite Twav Prasaad before eating.

Nowadays Langar is a complete joke; Guru Ka Langar has become a social buffet. People come to the GUrdwara Sahib to fill their stomachs not their souls. They treat langar hall as a lounge this is why tea and chit chatting is prevalent.

preet kokri you tell ppl to stop drinking tea, coffee etc 3 times and if they dont listen to you after those 3 times inwhich u explained to them why u shouldnt drink coffe/ tea etc. leave them alone and carry on with your life.....you dont need to waste your time on such small issue's...you can spend your time doing better things in life than convincing people not to drink coffee because i know for a fact that they want listen to you....ppl do watever they want to these days....

just stay strong in your bibek

Wahegurujio?
Still waiting to know if green tea is alright, please? I drink this to overcome all ailments, without having to see doctor, and believe me it is indeed Akal Purakh's natural remedy for all ailments; if it not on Gurmat Bibeki's forbidden food list, please?
