Different views for candidates of SGPC elections --- quick outlook

Posted by JASJIT SINGH
Daas was talking to a Singh jee last night back home and during conversation I asked the trend for SGPC elections. Of course I was interested to find out the interest of Jatha Singhs of our area (not whole Jatha of Punjab) and of like minded Singhs and the answer was quite interesting. First of all election fever is escalating and most of Sikhs are effected by this. This may be first time that some Singhs have very opposite views; within Singhs there are four categories now:

1) Few support Badal Dal candidate. They support him not because of Badal Dal but the candidate himself. I would not write his name but this candidate may be known to many as he is currently holding a SGPC position. They say this candidate got the ticket at last minute. Badal hold him to very last min and there was a rumor that he might not get the ticket at all. I think Badal was trying to look for Saadh union candidate but knew that Saadh union candidate will have ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ਜਬਤ in this doaba area constituency so he might have changed his mind at last moment and gave ticket again to this candidate. Also they said even if this candidate did not have get the ticket he could have run independently and still win the election, so, they support him. Not to mention when this candidate was elected first time about 14 years ago he had full support of Jatha Singhs including this Daas.

2) Many support Panthic Morcha candidate including some Sarbloh bibeki Singhs. Daas do not know much about this candidate but mainly they are supporting him due to opposition to Badal Dal. I think this candidate along with some Jatha Singhs fought to followers of Bhaniyara wala saadh few years back and had clashes with them many time. Mostly youth is supporting.

3) Some like minded Singhs to Jatha Singhs support Maan Dal candidate because of his staunch stance on Khalistan. Category 1) Singhs are trying to convince these Singhs that why they are wasting their vote even they know that their candidate has slim chances but in their views even though their candidate would not win election but still voice for Khalistan will be raised; there is no better place than Khalistan. (ਕੁੱਝ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਉਹ ਝੰਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਡੰਡਾ ਦੇਈ ਰੱਖਣਗੇ)
4) This category is of neutral Singhs who would not participate to cast their vote because they have no interest in SGPC politics.

First time ever daas heard of that many difference of opinions among the Singhs to whom Daas know of. I do not know what to say. May be this is also the scenario elsewhere in Punjab which it is quite interesting but disturbing as well.

It seems like there is more free will this time than ever. eye rolling smiley

With Regards,
Daas

Since panthis morcha is a proxy of congress i gathered from some sources back home that
most of them will forfeit their security deposits.

Badal dal is not best but is better than touts of congress represented by Sarna.

Following was the Sandesh for Badal Dal from Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib:

extract from: Hukamnamay, Adesh-Sandesh Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib

Important note from above Sandesh: ... ...

Badal did wrong with Bhai Ranjit singh at that time and no one endorses his action against
Bhai sahib.

Panthic morcha is a front of congress who had done many wrongs to Sikhs. Bhai Ranjit singh ji
does not support panthic morcha. Between two evils lesser evil is better. We do not want control
of our Gurudwaras to go under Sarna who promotes blasphemy of ragi darshan singh.

People say Badal is no better than Baabar and interestingly above Sandesh say the same thing ... . Therefore so many voters are opposing Badal on this ground. Furthermore they say, this is Badal’s old political tactics that which ever Sikh is opposing him in elections he start name calling them as congress agents and many uneducated folks fell prey to this tactics. They give the example of Baba Jarnail Singh Bhidrawalay that every one knows he died for the Panthic cause yet Badal Dal name him as congress agent, should we start calling Baba Jarnail Singh Bhidrawalay a congress agent because Badal ਜੁੰਡਲੀ said so? They say no matter what tactics Badal ਜੁੰਡਲੀ and it’s newly recruited Saadh Sena uses they will vote against their ਕੂੜ character.

As per the humble opinion of this Daas, the best choice that we have in the current SGPC elections is to support Bhai Simranjit Singh Mann's party as this is the only party that is free of BJP or Congress influence. Some may argue that voting for Mann Sahib is wasting your vote since his party has less chances of winning. The answer to this argument is that it does not matter whether Mann Sahib's party would win or not but a true Sikh voter should vote keeping in mind Gurmat. There is no Gurmat on the side of Badal who is supported by Saadh Laana (fake sants) and Panthik Morcha that is supported by Congress and the likes of Sarna.

It is sad that Bhai Bittu's party is part of Panthik Morcha. Despite differences, there should have been an alliance of Bittu and Mann.

Shiromani Akali Dal Panch Pardhani led by Daljit Singh Bittu is also a great option. I believe most of AKJ supports them. It is there first election and they are likely to get 5-10 seats which is very impressive for a first showing. Most of individuals running for there party are former kharkoo singhs, and wives of shaheed singhs.
I believe they split with Simranjit Singh Mann because they found him very hard to work with. They still have immense respect for him and seva he has done, but decided that he was not the best politician.

These 'pakhandi Sants' genuinely believe that they are the Gurmukh Sants mentioned in Gurbani.
I have this feeling that, Badal must have offered this santsamaj jundli 'offers' of changing the current panthic rehit maryada. Which for them must have been an irresistible offer .
Their hunger for power is no secret though.

Everything will become clear with time. But their cooperation with Badal should never be forgotten by any Panthic Gursikh nor forgiven.

RSS AND DSGMC HEAD SARNA HONOR EACH OTHER

PANTHIC.ORG | Published on June 13, 2008

DSGMC's Paramjit Sarna hobnobbing with RSS Delhi unit workers

New Delhi (KP) - Despite a Panthic boycott and general morality, the head of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and the head of the controversial Rashtriya Sikh Sangat (RSS) outfit honored each other at a recent function in the Capitol.

According to press reports, Ujjagar Sinh, president of the Rashtryia Sikh Sangat (RSS) Delhi unit, and Paramjit Sarna of the DSGMC approached a stall setup by the RSS during the Guru Granth Sahib Jagitri Procession and praised the right-wing organization’s efforts and sewa. Ujjagar Sinh also stated that the RSS workers at the stall then honored Sarna with a siropa.

He claimed that the entire event was recorded by RSS workers, including the conversation in which Sarna stated that they are not Rashtriya Sikhs but Guru-kay-Sikhs. In response the RSS President replied, “we are Guru-kay-Sikhs. We are Guru-ki-Sangat. The word Rashtriya is just part of our organization’s name.”

The RSS representative went on to say that the RSS gives precedence to Gurmat, and only recognizes Shabad-Guru as our real Guru, and that their organization is attempting to rise above diminutive issues and spread the message of the Gurus and their sacrifices to rest of the world and to “each and every household.” In actuality, the right-wing RSS propagates the idea that the Sikh faith is an extension of the greater Hindu pantheon, rather than recognizing it a independent faith.

According to an official RSS press release Sarna also stated : “The workers of Rashtriya Sikh Sangat are very dedicated and they played a very positive and impressive role during [the] last six days of Jagriti Yatra. I pray before Guru Sahib and do Ardas for them. In [the] future Guru Sahib will give them strength for this noble cause of Sewa (Service)."

It should be noted, that in a memorandum released in July of 2004, Sri Akal Takht Sahib instructed the Sikh Nation to boycott both the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its offshoot Rashtriya Sikh Sangat due to their anti-Panthic activities and agenda. In the past, they have maligned the Sikh image, Sikh history and used agents to infiltrate various Sikh organization on their behalf.

Chatrik jeeo, I agree with you. If Badal wins along with the naqli-Saadhs, then surely they will tamper with Rehit Maryada and this will cause more split in Panth. Look at the disaster they caused by tampering with the Nanakshahi calender without taking whole Panth into confidence. Their unilateral move has caused severe disunity in Panth. We should expect more problems if Badal and Sadhs win but as Bhai Inder Singh has pointed out, Sarna is no good either.

Regarding Sarna hobnobbing with RSS, is there any doubt that Badal is openly with RSS since he is aligned with BJP which in turn is openly the political wing of RSS? I don't understand what's the difference between Sarna and Badal? Both are dubious people, as far as their connections to RSS are concerned. There is no such thing as lessor evil between Sarna and Badal. They both are evil and we shouldn't support either of them.

Panth should vote for either Bittu or Mann. We don't have any other choice.

](Left) Badal praying to a Hindu Devi, (Right) Surinder Badal praying at Aushutosh Noormehalia's feet

Chandigarph, Punjab (KP) - The former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Prof. Darshan Singh, lashed out at Parkash Badal's family and accusing them for being guilty of serious violations of the Sikh Rehat Maryada. Parkash Badal's wife recently admitted to the press that she worships anti-Panthic personality Aushutosh Noormehlia, and seeks his blessings routinely. Badal, himself, recently visited a Hindu Mandir where he prayed to Kali Devi for her blessings.

Simranjit Singh Mann Visits Durga Mandir

On a similar note, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president, Simranjit Singh Mann, who also visited a Hindu Durga Mandir in Longowal this week, was criticized for doing the same. Several newspapers have reported that Mann had prayed to idols of Durga, Santoshi Mata, Kali, Hanuman, and a shivling, but Simranjit Singh Mann has denied the accusations, stating he had merely visited the temple but not prayed in it. The newpapers also reported that a confrontation took place inside the mandir between photographers and SAD(A) party workers, who did not want the event publicized.

Badal Family Actions Harming Sikh Youth

Prof. Darshan Singh, who, criticized the Badals for misusing the Akali Dal name and promoting it as a 'Sikh' party while continuing to perform anti-Sikh actions, went as far as to say that the Badal family and their party were one of the major causes of apostasy amonst the Sikh Youth.

Prof. Darshan Singh appealed to the Sikh community to vote out these individuals who were harming the Sikh saroops (appearance) and religion. He added 'It is quiet clear that these people have never read the Gurbani or the rehat maryada. It is very clearly stated that a Sikh should not wander around for solace and assurance, and that he should have full faith in the Guru. But then it seems that Surinder Kaur Badal does not know this. She is going around seeking blessings of all these gurus whom she claims are equivalent, for her, to Guru Granth Sahib. Other Akali leaders like Sikander Singh Maluka performed Hawan to inaugurate his party office. All this sends a wrong message to the Sikh youth.'

Like Parkash Badal himself, SAD party worker Surinder Maluka had performed a Hawan recently along with his BJP compatriots at an inauguration of a party office.

Several Sikh organizations have requested the Badal installed Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti to summon Maluka and Surinder Badal, to no avail.

7) THE BADALS : EMPIRE OF TREACHERY & CORRUPTION
PANTHIC WEEKLY EDITORS
[panthic.org]

Chandigarh, Punjab - Facing an uphill battle in the upcoming elections, and a possibility of a corruption trial, Akali Dal Badal, is vying for votes in a most desperate manner.

When Amarinder Singh held a hugh rally in Badal’s home town last week, Badal countered by setting up an “entertainment” stage a few kilometers away, complete with scantly clad dancing girls and vulgar music. Alcohol, cash, and flesh flow freely, all in the name of “Akali Dal’.

No longer a Panthic Party

The Akali Dal that once launched a morcha in support of implementing the “Anandpur Sahib Resolution” and the watered-down “Amritsar Elan-nama”, is now even apologizing to their Hindu masters for their past “disrespect” of the Indian constitution.

In mid 1980s, the Shiromani Akal Dal demanded the withdrawal of Article 25 of the Indian Constitution which blended the Sikhs as Hindus. In 1983 the Akali leaders burnt copied of Article 25 in front of Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, close to the Parliament House, to demonstrate their disapproval of the Article.

Badal is now apologizing for his actions from the 1980s and states that he did it out of pressure from his party. This is in line with his previous statements where he has apologized for joining the ‘Dharm Yudh Morcha’ which eventually led to the Khalistan movement of the mid 1980s and ‘90s. He is completely silent on the welfare of hundereds of Sikh political prisoners that are languishing in India's jails - many of then were detained since the mid 1980s.

It is clear that Shiromani Akal Dal (Badal), no longer represents the voice or the aspirations of the Sikh nation. It is currently being controlled entirely by ‘godfather’ Parkash Badal solely for his family’s self interest. Badal is alleged to have amassed hundreds of millions in wealth and property during his stints as chief minister of Punjab. The corruption case on this disproportionate amass of assets could go on trial as early as 2007.

Badal Family Center Stage

A recent political rally held by the Akali Dal, on the aging Badal’s birthday, Badal was projected was a rare son of Punjab. Songs by professional musicians and Dhadis praised the father and son Badal as if they were our great Sikh Gurus or our Shaheeds. One of songs stated that “Birth of great man such as Badal is a rare act of God” and another one gloats that “Following Guru Sahib’s great command of ‘Jabai Bann Lagio, Tabai Roass Jagio’ Sukhbir Badal has sacrificed his luxuries to awaken the youth, he is the new rising sun, and twinkling star of Punjab.”

The songs failed to mention the mountains of treachery and corruption that the Badal Empire is built upon.

Panthic organizations have not forgotten his connections to the RSS, Nakli-Nirankaris, Aushutosh Noormehlia, and his dubious role during the Vaisakhi 1978 Massacre, the June 1984 on Sri Darbar Sahib, and his constant meddling in the affairs of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Does the Punjab of today no longer differentiate between truth and treason? Only time will tell.

While i agree that there are many fake sants roaming around these days and such charlatans can be recognize with time.
It is also true that we have plenty of others who are doing an excellent work for the uplift of sikhi and sikhs.Few examples are

1)Sant Sewa singh of kahdur sahib who is working to give free education to needy sikh kids , working to keep environment clean by planting of trees, imparting religious education , promoting sikh sportsmen etc.

2) Baba Balbir singh seechewal an evironmentalist.

3) Sant sewa singh ji of Rampur khera.

4) Baba Iqbal singh ji who devoted his whole life to sikhi, an educationist who heads Baru sahib schools.

We should not castigate all of them.

Bhai Inder Singh jeeo, I agree that there are many genuine Gursikh Sants out there but the goodness and genuine-ness of a Gursikh Sant can easily be recognized through the kind of company he keeps. If he is keeping close company and alliance with corrupt politicians, then we can safely assume that such person is a fake Sant.

As for Seechewal, he is a very good environmentalist but not a Gursikh Sant. I don't think he wears Kakaars, and wears that Hindu Sanniyaasi kind of attire.

The biggest reason why no Gursikh should vote for Sarna group is because of his open links with Darshan Lal who is a traitor of the Panth and denies Sri Dasam Granth. If this Sarna and supporters win you can expect Darshan Lal will be doing his blasphemous Kathas in historical Sikh Gurdwaras. I beleive Sarna's group is the bigger of the two evils between him and Badal. All Gursikh minded Sikhs should try their best to help Simranjeet Singh Mann win as much seats as possible.

Sant Mastuanewale was not a Nirmala? He was an Amritdhari Tyaar bar Tyaar Gursikh and did not have anything to do with Nirmalas, nor he took Amrit from the ones associated with Nirmalas. He did not study Vedant or any other study at a Nirmala Dera. Then how was he a Nirmala?

Seechewal seems more like Udaasi than Nirmala but I am not sure on this one. I saw him once, recently when he came to Toronto and noticed he was wearing Bhagvay clothes that Hindus monks wear.

I fully agree with above. Not only he is promoting gurnindak Ragi Darshan singh, Sarna has given Delhi stages
to nastik missionaries who day in and day out propagate no only against Dasam Pita's bani but also ridicule
basic concepts of sikhi such as Naam simran, amrit vela, whaeguru as Gurmantra etc etc.

Imagine Ragi darshan controlling akal takhat after Sarna coming to power? Then sikhs have to resort to struggle

Sukhdeep Singh Jee, I found the following on another forum:

"Akali Dal Mann representatives have stated that this news is incorrect, his actual statement was that those ex-Kharkoos who are siding with Badal are associated with the "govt" and responsible for the death of Bhai Gurjant Singh BhudhSinghwala, and Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar, and he also publicly apologized for taking part in Dhumma's installation ceremony in 2004.

Akali Dal Mann reps are supposed to issue a clarification on this in the next couple of days."

I think it is safe to say that election time is coming near and many opposition groups will start to throw mud at each other in order to discredit their opponents in the eyes of the general public. During election time, everything should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Bhai Inder Singh jeeo, I don't question the contribution of Nirmalas in Sikhi and I respect them for that but still Sant Attar Singh Mastuanewale did not have a Nirmala background. He started his Bhagti not in Rishikesh or Hardwar but in military and then left his job to go to Hazoor Sahib and did great Bhagti for 4-5 years before coming back to Punjab and doing massive Amrit Sinchaar Parchaar.

I think the words used for sant samaj are too harsh. I wouldn't go as far as too call them fake.

Bhai Hari Singh Randhawe is a good kathakaar. I have also heard katha from Harnam Singh Dhumma from Suraj Parkash. I genuinely believe that sant samaj want chardikala for Sikhi but do not understand politics.

Bhai Balbir Singh Seechewal has done done great sewa in area of sri Sultanpur.
Its hugely dissapointing that sant samaj have sided with Badal, I think this is because Jasbir Singh Rode joined with Badal and he has lot of influence in Taksal.
I think sant samaj are 'oppurtunists' but not fakes. They are siding with Badal to have influence in SGPC and to implement their maryada.
But wouldn't any other organisation also try to implement their version of maryada, including jatha, if they were in the SGPC?

Badal is just a badmash,in India he has used tactics of a thug to get control of property. What sant samaj don't understand is that Badal will remain the boss, they will not have any influence in SGPC, Badal will have final word on decisions from SGPC and Akal Takht. Avtar Singh Makkar is a supporter of Badal. We need a new SGPC leader.

You are right. Sant ji started his religious education from his village to begin with. But the ashram where he started belonged to Ram Singh of nirmala order. On his return from Hazur sahib he stayed at Hardwar and rishikesh.

Such saints on realizing Akal purakh rise above factional affiliations and belong to whole panth and humanity at large. Hindus invited him and got foundation stone of benares Hindu university laid by sant ji.

Sant Atar Singh of Mastuana, the most charismatic figure in latter-day Sikh piety, was born on 13 March 1866 in the village of Chima, in Sangrur district of the Punjab. His father, Karam Singh, was a farmer of modest means and could not afford to send him to a school in town. So Atar Singh was apprenticed to Bhai Buta Singh, head of the Nirmala dera or monastery of Bhai Ram Singh, in his own village. He acquired proficiency in the Sikh religious texts and also read philosophical treatises such as the Vichar Sagar. Side by side with his progress in Sikh learning, he developed a deeply religious cast of mind. While tending his cattle, he would become absorbed in reciting hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib.

In my opinion sant samaj had very bitter experience during excommunication phase of datshan Singh.400 nihings from battala and a
Amritsar area had gathererd at akal takhat and wanted to ask questions to datshan Ragi on his blasphemic pronouncements. They were not allowed to go near him whereAs goons of sarna were roaming free. On other hand Ragi was treated like VIP and let go unpunished.in all probability Sants wAnted to have voice in sgpc then on.
I do not think they will be allowed to tamper with existing maryada.
