ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ (Adjective)
Now that the rules for a singular male noun with an aunkaR are complete, let us discuss the use of the aunkaR on a ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ (Adjective)
The same rule for a noun applies to the adjective. The adjective will have an aunkaR depending on the noun that it is describing.
ਕਵਣੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਵਖਤੁ ਕਵਣੁ ਕਵਣ ਥਿਤਿ ਕਵਣੁ ਵਾਰੁ ॥
Here, the adjective is ਕਵਣ. Since the noun that its describing is ਵੇਲਾ, there is an aunkaR on ਕਵਣ because it is describing a singular male noun.
The next ਕਵਣ also has an aunkaR, because the noun it is describing “ਵਖਤੁ “ is a singular male noun.
Next, “ਕਵਣ ਥਿਤਿ”, ਥਿਤਿ is a female word, so there is no aunkaR on ਕਵਣ
“ਕਵਣੁ ਵਾਰੁ”, ਵਾਰੁ is a singular male noun, so there is an aunkaR on ਕਵਣੁ.
ਏਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਤੂ ਜਿ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲ
ਕੁਟੰਬੁ is male noun, so ਏਹੁ has an aunkaR
ਏਹੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ
ਲੇਖਾ is a singular male noun so there is an aunkaR on ਏਹੁ
ਏਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਤੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ
ਮਾਇਆ is a female noun , so there is no aunkaR on ਏਹ
When reading Gurbani, many people pronounce the aunkaR when it is on a adjective ending with ਹ. This is incorrect. If we don’t pronounce aunkarR’s on other letters, then the same rule applies for ਹ.
