I had to post this from last year - these lines have been ringing in my head


Siri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee - ਤੋੜ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਦੀ ਛੋੜ।

This morning (Bandi Chhor Divas), while doing Abhyaas, this line - ਤੋੜ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਦੀ ਛੋੜ। - kept coming to the mind. It was a beautiful Samasya (inspirational line for poetry) that Satgur jee Himself had blessed. So, it was decided there and then, that this Samasya will be expanded and a poem would be written on this Samasya, in the Shaan of Siri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee Maharaj.

Satguru jee extremely Dyaaloo and Param-Kirpaaloo. He released the 52 kings who were not even His Sikhs, from the Gawalior jail. We are His Sikhs and His sons and daughters. Why wouldn't he have mercy on us and get us released from the bonds of Maya?

ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਦੂਰੀਆਂ।
ਜੋੜ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ।

ਕਈਆਂ ਦੀ ਤੈਂ ਬੁਧਿ ਫੇਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗੁਰਸਿੱਖ।
ਗਲ ਲਾ ਕਈ ਪਾਪੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਤੈਂ ਦਿੱਖ।
ਮਰੋੜ ਜੀ ਮਰੋੜ ਸਾਡੀ ਵੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਰੋੜ।

Thanks for posting this wonderful old memory. While I was typing "Vadhaaee" for today's Bandi Chorr Divas, I too remembered this poem from last year and thought that I would revisit this thread but you made it easy by posting the poems right here in this thread.

Today is a great day and the mind really can't help thinking of Siri Guru HarGobind Sahib jee. Here is small poem, a Benti to Guru Sahib jee:

ਰਾਜੇ ਕੀਹਦੇ ਪਾਣੀਹਾਰ, ਤੂੰ ਪਾਪੀ ਤਾਰੇ ਬੇਸ਼ੁਮਾਰ।
ਅਸੀਂ ਆਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ, ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤਾਰ।

ਤੂੰ ਹੈਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਦੀਛੋੜ, ਤਾਰੇ ਪਾਪੀ ਲਖ ਕਰੋੜ;

Today I learnt that:

1- lighting up deve on this day is pointless - we are to learn from fire --- we are to learn how the fire stays constant - , we are to constanly continue on the path of naam and grumat. - We are to learn "Deva mero ekh naam dukh wich paya thel" - excuse spelling mistakes.

2. Doing fireworks on this day is also pointless exercise - -why do we do it - we are going against mahrajs teachings by polluting the environment by spending tons of money on fireworks. Where in Gurbani does it advise us to do fireworks and pollute the environment. I find it alarming that some gurughars hold firework displays total madness - money can be spent on passing knowledge of Gurmat and teachings of this day.

There is nothing wrong with lighting candles during bandi chhor divas. This is a tradition which was started by prominent Gurmukhs Baba Buddha Ji and BHai Gurdas JI, and continued for a very long time on a daily basis . Everyday in Ardas we recite "Chaukee Shabad Jugo Jug aTAL." comes from this tradition it refers to the practice were candels were lit and kirtan was perfromed it has nothing to do with HInduism.

No need for us to turn into grummpy old babe about the fire works, let the little ones play with the fireworks. It creates interest for the children as well.

side question: from the pictures that we see of artifacts left in historical gurdware, Guru sahib jee and the Sikh of those times wore such intricate and colorful baanay and shoes etc. so, why do all our rehitvaan sing's these days only use simple plain colored rumaalay and also only wear simple blue/white/basanti baanay in gurughar? for the record; i don't want to change the way we dress these days, navy baana is my favorite and i hope that never changes. i'm just asking a question

great input Gunman singh jee - gurmpy old babe -- apologies i'm far to young for that sir - however polluting this earth of fireworks is against nautre - teaching kids that would be of more benefit.

Narinder Singh Jeeo, driving cars causes pollution and damages the earth as well but does this mean you will stop driving cars and teaching kids driving cars as well. Bhai Sahib you seem like a decent SIngh but I noticed perhaps some missionaries may have some influence you. Their logic is to use science to question Gurmat tradition. If some Children are taught stories about Sri GUru HarGObind Sahib Ji and the children want to celebrate using fireworks there is no harm as long as the children understand the purpose behind the celebration.
