Sugandh (kasam sahu) dae kar itbaar janaaoun vaalae tae yakeen nahee karnaa|

Have no faith in oaths sworn by one attempting to convince another of sincerity.

Could someone expand on this hukam and the logic behind it please?

Is Guru Sahib saying, we shouldn't buy into the phrases "rab di son or she's a really nice person you can trust them"

I think this Hukum specifically refers to non sikhs. A prime example is when Aurangzeb broke his promise to Guru Sahib during the Battle of Chamkur Sahib. Another lesson is when Maharaja Ranjit Singh trusted the promises of the British ( despite AKali Phoola Singhs objection) in which they said they would be helpful allies against the French, but their real intention was to invade Punjab. Or when Gandhi promised Sikhs political soverginity. Now we have Akali Dal, AAP, BJP making similar promises to Sikhs and we are blindly trusting them. So I think this specifically refers to political trusts with non Sikhs.

It cant be referring to SIkhs not making promises or giving their word because there are many examples of Sikhs giving their word and living up to it. Example, Baba Deep Singh promising sangat at Harmandir Sahib he will come back and he did despite having his head removed. Even when we take Amrit we abhilakhees make promises to panj to abide in living up to Gurmat Maryada.

Sukhdeep Singh veerji, it applies to Sikhs as well because Sikhs should never take oath because a word from his mouth is like a binding contract smiling smiley So if a Sikh is taking an oath to get someone in confidence, then that is prohibited as per above hukam. Taking a word of a Sikh is another matter because there is no Sugandh involved and Sikh should never take Sugandh.
