Dasuwal, Punjab (KP - Bhai Angrez Singh Dasuwal, the elder brother of Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Babbar, passed away at the age of 78 in his native village living a life filled with struggle and defiance.

Despite being visually impaired, Bhai Angrez Singh, whole heartedly supported the Sikh freedom fighters movement his brothers Bhai Sukhdev Singh and Bhai Mehal Singh were involved in.

During the turbulent times in Punjab, Bhai Angrez Singh was routinely harassed and tortured by the Punjab Police and spent several months in the Valtoha Jail without due cause. During that dark period, 31 other members of Bhai Sahib’s family were also being detained and harassed by the authorities.

Recently, when Indian intelligence authorities demanded a DNA sample from Bhai Angrez Singh, despite his old age, and frail health, Bhai Sahib defiantly refused to do so.

Despite being blind from birth, Bhai Sahib lived a life with full determination, and along with learning Sanskrit, and earning Giani credentials, learned Hakimi (specializing in traditional herbal medicine), and advanced to becoming a certified RMP (registered medical practitioner).

Bhai Sahib also became an expert in electronics technology, and became well versed in Braille, and compiled several Gurbani pothees using this script.

Bhai Sahib’s third brother, Bhai Rasal Singh, recently passed away in January of 2011.
