The impact one Aunkar can have in changing meanings

Posted by gsingh
The importance of Lagamatran and Viakarn in Gurbani can be clearly seen in this example. These four spellings of GurSikh are only slightly different but they can drastically change the Arths of a Pangti.

ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖੁ= ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਖ (Guru’s Sikh) Singular
ਗੁਰ ਸਿਖ= ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਖ (Guru’s Sikhs) Plural
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖ= ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਸਿਖ (Guru and Many Sikhs) Plural (Conjunction)
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਿਖੁ= ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਸਿਖ (Guru and one Sikh) Singular

For this reason studying Gurbani and Gurbani Lagamatran and Viakarn is extremely important. I don't have much knowledge on these topics, this is just something I've learned, if there's anything wrong with the above example learned Gursikhs can correct it. Thought this would be nice to share with the Sangat to show the importance a single Aunkar can have in changing the meanings of a word or sentence.

I think you have forgot to mention that the spelling ਗੁਰਸਿਖ can also have sanbodhan/vismik meaning such as :
ਗੁਰਸਿਖ! ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਣੇ ॥

Sanbodhan/vismik spellings are my most favorite words to recite in Gurbani. Sometimes I get a little to trigger happy with the interjections!
