We are circulating the
attached letter to Sikh organizations and Gurdwaras to gather the Sikh community's support on an important civil rights issue regarding the kirpan. We need your organization or Gurdwara to sign-on to the
attached letter by Monday, January 20, 2014.
As you may be aware, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals recently found that a Sikh, Kawaljeet Kaur Tagore, has a valid Religious Freedom and Restoration Act (RFRA) claim to wear her kirpan at work and instructed the lower court to review that claim. Unfortunately, in the same ruling, the Fifth Circuit Court also upheld the lower court's dismissal of her employment discrimination claim.
Ms. Tagore's attorney approached us to gather support from the Sikh community to ask the Department of Justice to resolve the case with Ms. Tagore without further in-court legal proceedings.

For the Gurdwara representatives emailed here, we may not have updated information in terms of the current appropriate contact at your Gurdwara, and request that you forward this request to the appropriate individual.
