ਪਿਰੁ ਧਨਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ਰਖੈ ਸੰਗਾਨੈ ॥

ਪਿਰੁ ਧਨਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰਿ ਰਖੈ ਸੰਗਾਨੈ ॥

Why is ਧਨਹਿ considered Karam Karak instead of Adhikaran Karak ( locative case) because it seems like Husband is putting shingar on wife .I thought sihairi is included in ਧਨਹਿ giving the prepositional meaning " on" ?

This word is definitely a noun in Karam Karak. The meaning is ਪਿਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਜੀਵਾਤਮਾ, ਧਨ ਰੂਪੀ ਦੇਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੀਂਗਾਰ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

And ਸੀਗਾਰਿ is not a noun but a verb here. Note the following two lines from common language:

1. ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੀਂਗਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
2. ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੇਹੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੀਂਗਾਰਿਆ।

In the first case, the word ਸ਼ੀਂਗਾਰ is a noun but in second line this word is a verb. Same way, in the Pankiti above this word is a verb. And ਧਨਹਿ is not Adhikaran Kaarak because ਸੀਗਾਰਿ is not a verb.

Gurbani is Agam Agaadh Bodh.

Bhai Sahib jee,

In the first example wouldn't Shingaar still be a verb because it is something that is done. Doesn't ਕੀਤਾ denote that shingaar is something that was done rather than something that was worn?

For it to be a noun wouldn't it have to be ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਪਾਇਆ ?

Whether Shingaar keeta or Shingaar paya, either way, Shingaar is a noun e.g. Naam japiya, Naam gaaiya, Naam urdhaariya etc. in all cases Naam is a noun.

We were thinking since Waaheguru fashioned the jeev estree with a body wouldn't ਧਨਹਿ be sampradan karak as ਧਨਹਿ is being the recipient of the body?
